Hobbycraft have asked us to find out what arts and crafts activities you’ll be doing with your DCs during the Easter period.

Here’s what they say, “With lots of opportunities for fun over the Easter holidays we’d love to know what crafty activities you’ll be taking part in this Easter holidays! Are you making Easter bonnets, or even creating your own egg hunt or maybe baking with the kids? Here at Hobbycraft we’d love to hear about how you create your own Easter family traditions!”

So, what kind of arts and crafts activities will you be doing with your DCs in the run up to Easter? Maybe you’ll be painting and decorating Easter eggs? Or will you be making Easter bonnets in time for an Easter bonnet parade at school? Whatever it is we’d love to hear it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where three lucky Mumsnetters will win £100 Hobbycraft gift cards!

Last year, here at MNHQ we put together a video tutorial on making an Easter bonnet so if you need any inspiration do check it out!

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

P.S. For more Easter crafts ideas, check out our Hobbycraft pages on Mumsnet.

They're making Easter bonnets at school. At home we make Easter baskets for the egg hunt around the house. I tend to make up some clues for them to find. I've seen a recipe for a chocolate tiffin nest cake so we'll try that & add the little Easter eggs to it.

We have done the Easter Bonnet already, for a parade yesterday. We are away with friends for Easter and will definitely be doing an Easter Egg hunt on the campsite. Last year we were stuck in a tent all day Easter Sunday with four children who used easter art and craft kits to do loads of colouring and make easter animals. A friend added lolly sticks to turn them into puppets and they did a puppet show fir us from behind a windbreak on Monday (when it finally stopped raining).

This year we will take more of the same away with us. DD and I will also bake some Easter biscuits for the trip before we leave. Can't wait.

We're going to be creating an image board and cutting out photos of places we'd like to visit in the Summer for inspiration

Decorating eggs is always great, whether its paints, gluing or thinking about what else they could be turned into and getting inventive. As long as its messy and fun!

handbar · 25/03/2015 10:51

I am going to make Easter cards with my grandchildren when they break up from school.

sue55 · 25/03/2015 11:04

We are going to sow some veg seeds to grow in containers, have bought some seeds - courgettes, lettuce and seed potatoes and the compost.
We are going to try carving names in courgettes when they are small, supposed to get larger as courgette grows, never tried it but supposed to work well

sue55 · 25/03/2015 11:07

somehow managed to post message before finished!

we are also going to paint/decorate the pots, so have got pots, acrylic paints and brushes at the ready

hannahlw85 · 25/03/2015 11:43

We're making cards for family, our own decorations for an easter egg hunt and painting eggs, going to try making our own chocolate eggs for a change too. Also going to have fun making bonnets and painting pictures, baking and face painting. In general I want it to be as fun as possible while also encouraging their creativity. I started crafting with sewing at 6 and love it to this day and find its an easy and enjoyable way to passing by time and stopping boredom, and would love to instill it into mine to they know there's loads of ways to entertain themselves that don't involve having the TV on and mean engaging the brain better.

Since we are in the middle of Dinosaur madness at the minute, i have dinosaur theme easter egg decoration planned along with making some green and chocolate cupcakes to be decorated again in a dinosaur theme. I'm trying to get the bunny introduced, but i'm being told dinosaurs and bunnies don't mix lol

Baking easter cakes and biscuits!!

Coddfish · 25/03/2015 12:55

My older children's primary school does a 'decorate a boiled egg' competition every year. My middle daughter is doing a ladybird and my eldest is doing minions from Dispicable Me. We have googly eyes to stick on! My littlest girl is at nursery and they do a easter bonnet parade every year. The mums go crazy so we'll have to think up something spectacular!

tishist · 25/03/2015 15:36

egg marbling - have always wanted to try it

Cat1980uk · 25/03/2015 16:17

I've bought some plain plastic eggs and will be getting the paint out to decorate them in wacky colours and patterns

shydaylily · 25/03/2015 16:26

Easter hats and eating lots of chocolate

Hopezibah · 25/03/2015 18:35

lots of Easter cards and egg decorating for us. Sometimes it's nice just to get lots of easter coloured craft items (yellow, white and green pom poms, card, tissue paper, pipe cleaners etc) and see what the kids come up with.

toniuk · 25/03/2015 20:23

Lindy2 · 26/03/2015 13:51

We are painting eggs, making Easter lambs from cotton wool and baking Easter cakes.

Purplefrills · 26/03/2015 18:47

My 6 year old knits and as a holiday treat we are off wool shopping the first day of the hols. I have just started teaching her how to read a pattern and she is desperate to knit her doll something. While she does that I intend to try my hand at a patchwork bead spread.

CastielsClevererBetterSister · 27/03/2015 00:30

We shall be making footprint princesses/superheroes. Also using blown out eggshells filled with paint to make splatter pictures (not sure how that'll turn out but looking forward to trying it) and paper mache EAster baskets. might even manage to get the 3 interested in knitting or crochet like me. I'm going to give papercutting a go with a bunny theme Grin

Crankycarp · 27/03/2015 09:54

We have an egg decorating session planned - egg dye, glitter, gold paint and glue dots have been purchased.

MTBMummy · 27/03/2015 12:58

We'll be making Easter bonnets for the school parade, but DD will also be weaving a basket for her Easter egg hunt, which is a family tradition. I'm hoping to make decorated eggs for the grand parents as well. DD adores crafting, and especially making gifts for other people

serendipity1980 · 27/03/2015 13:44

We will have an Easter egg hunt, will decorate a branch with Easter decorations to make our own indoor Easter tree. My children love baking, so we'll be doing plenty of that. We may look online for ideas for things to make too, to keep us entertained over the holidays.
