Hobbycraft have asked us to find out what arts and crafts activities you’ll be doing with your DCs during the Easter period.

Here’s what they say, “With lots of opportunities for fun over the Easter holidays we’d love to know what crafty activities you’ll be taking part in this Easter holidays! Are you making Easter bonnets, or even creating your own egg hunt or maybe baking with the kids? Here at Hobbycraft we’d love to hear about how you create your own Easter family traditions!”

So, what kind of arts and crafts activities will you be doing with your DCs in the run up to Easter? Maybe you’ll be painting and decorating Easter eggs? Or will you be making Easter bonnets in time for an Easter bonnet parade at school? Whatever it is we’d love to hear it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where three lucky Mumsnetters will win £100 Hobbycraft gift cards!

Last year, here at MNHQ we put together a video tutorial on making an Easter bonnet so if you need any inspiration do check it out!

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

P.S. For more Easter crafts ideas, check out our Hobbycraft pages on Mumsnet.

We will be making a classic Easter bonnet with those little fluffy chicks that I can remember from when I was a wee one! We'll also be making some Easter cakes & if we're REALLY adventures - I might blow some eggs so we can paint them! Another fun idea is egg rolling - hardboil some eggs - go to a really steep hill & roll them down - see who can get their's the furthest without it cracking!

We will have have a go at making 'Easter Nests' chocolate covered rice crispy cakes.

My DS is too small to do much more cooking safely, so this is a perfect way to get him started, stirring ingredients and putting the chocolate eggs into the nests if he doesn't eat everything first

making easter bonnets!

KitchenTable1 · 20/03/2015 14:22

I wondered if all you crafty and artistic parents are happy with the amount of "making" opportunities that your children have at school? Please follow this link to see some important questions about that:www.accessart.org.uk/what-is-the-real-value-of-art-education/

We are redecorating our huge dolls house by putting spring flowers in the window boxes, putting up easter cards and have even bought a bunny in a hutch for the basement area!! So much easier than thinking about doing our actual house!!

Egg painting on blown eggs. We use acrylic paints for smooth coverage, then hang them on an Easter tree (twigs/branches in a vase). Fairy cakes with a fried egg pattern on top - white glace icing with a blob of lemon icing on top.

We'll be making easter cakes and have already started practising with a battenburg cake and chocolate nest cupcakes. We also like to do some egg painting and we may even try and make some real chocolate eggs and paint them with icing pens.

My son is only 1, so it will be our first Easter crafting together! I'm going to be brave and try some finger painting to make cards, and dip cardboard or foam eggs in paint to decorate them. I have no doubt I will also buy an enormous amount of those fuzzy yellow chicks and stick them on everything, I have an unhealthy obsession with them!

WheresTheCoffee · 20/03/2015 19:14

We'll be baking and decorating eggs for a massive egg hunt!

QuietNinjaTardis · 20/03/2015 19:28

We will make some handmade Easter cards for grandparents and possibly decorate some eggs.
My son loves making things but won't be told what to do so we are more likely to make a robot or monster than something eastery!

deanhead1 · 20/03/2015 20:09

Decorating eggs

Helspopje · 21/03/2015 09:16

We are in a lego-movie-esque 'master builder' phase at the moment so the true answer is probably 'anything'. There will most definitely be plentiful glue, sparkly things, ribbon and feathers involved.

We always make home made Easter cards with the lovely craft ribbon and cut out foam shapes that you sell and an Easter bonnet is a must! Am toying with the idea of making papier mache eggs using a partially inflated ballooon for them to decorate and fill too.

A hobbycraft voucher would send my 4 yr old daughter into a spin of delight.

sweir1 · 21/03/2015 09:51

We will be painting eggs and making baskets

melvis · 21/03/2015 13:13

Decorating hard boiled eggs for Easter shows is one of my favourite things! When I was at school, I did a full scene entitled "A French Man selling Onions to a Lion in the Jungle", inspired by a stripy egg cup (the French Man's top!) ... I like to think up such ideas still today ;D

cheryl100 · 21/03/2015 14:26

hazelangell · 22/03/2015 08:47

The school has an Easter bonnet competition this year so we'll be taking part in that, going to have to have a good look online for ideas though as I'm not the most creative of people.
