The team at Hobbycraft would like to find out the arts and crafts activities you will be doing with your DCs this February half term holiday.

Here’s what Hobbycraft say, “As parents ourselves we know what a challenge it can be to keep the kids entertained away for the TV so for the sake of mum’s everywhere who are in need of inspiration we’d love to know what is your favourite crafting activity to do with the kids?”

The February half term is a tough one on most parents with the weather often keeping children cooped up inside. So what theme will your February half term holiday take? Will you be baking hot goodies to stave off the dreary weather? Will you re-create the outdoors inside by making an indoor den and scenery from recycling? Whatever it is, we want to hear it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where three lucky Mumsnetters will win a £100 Hobbycraft gift card.

Thanks and good luck!

JoJoBaldwin · 12/02/2015 10:09

I've been saving the recycling for a big junk modelling session on those rainy days. But I would like to get wrapped up warm and go for a good old nature trail in the woods too.

I want to teach my little girl to sew

HelenPlant · 12/02/2015 10:45

There's a puppet show on a barge that I will be taking the kids too. Looks tremendous fun!

Emrob86 · 12/02/2015 10:46

We wont be going out on day trips as its just way too expensive, husbands been off work on the sick for 3 months and is due to go back soon so money is very tight, A few weeks before kids break up I have a box called Make and Bake, I start buying bits and bobs a few weeks before ranging from coloured cards and pens to Baking stuff, it has to be fun stuff to keep the kids attention, we have a couple of days when her friends come round and we bake cakes which they take home with them, and a couple of Activity days where they can make anything they want, I'm blessed with having oldr daughters who have studied and Art and Drama so they really do help out making stuff with them and doing little plays, dances and doing the young ones hair styles for them.

DD2 is into making dragons out of fimo at the moment so we are doing a lot of oven baking! I have promised her a trip to get some more as she is running short.

During school holidays and half terms I love to get crafty with my children - it's never too early to start getting excited about the next celebration. So with that in mind, we'll start getting into the spirit of spring and get creating some Easter masterpieces with pastel tissue papers and lots of PVA glue!

I'm thinking this year we can really get into nature and make some hedgehog hides, bird boxes, and some mini replicas for their bedrooms; not forgetting their beloved stickers to decorate each and everything we create together.

prwilson · 12/02/2015 11:21

A spot of gardening, trips to the park and some video games I expect.

greedypig02 · 12/02/2015 11:40

Taking the kids to Ireland to see their grandparents. Teaching them how to milk a cow on the farm and doing a lot of fishing!!!....followed by untangling a lot of fishing line haha

We are planning some days out to the park & then of course its Pancake day on Tuesday, but most exciting for me the little ones is we are having a marathon baking day,
Cakes, biscuits, quiche & some different breads.
We also plan on going to our local store to buy "little one's" Baking set Smile

KittyKat88 · 12/02/2015 11:41

I can't wait to get 'stuck' into the half-term break with my DDs! We'll be doing a nature walk and collecting lots of things on the route that we can bring back to make a woodland themed collage!

sleach · 12/02/2015 11:44

we will be making birthday cards this half term with our son

ClaudetteWyms · 12/02/2015 11:50

We will be making a birthday card for my friend's son who will be 1 on March 1st - we always make children's cards.

Also going to bake and decorate a cake for when we go to stay at another friend's house during half term.

leannemoore · 12/02/2015 12:04

We have 'free days ' out planned such as walking down our local dene and local beach also bike rides and crafts ... My son loves to draw and then stick them on the fridge

lindsayc06 · 12/02/2015 12:21

we made valentines cards, we went ice skating and went for a train journey to helensburgh

shroney · 12/02/2015 12:22

we'll be going for a walk in the forest to collect leaves etc to paint as well as doing some baking and tidying up the garden ready for spring.

aless02 · 12/02/2015 12:52

MY LOS AREN'T IN SCHOOL, SO WE'LL BE DOING THE SAME THINGS WE ALWAYS DO - PLAYING GAMES, OUTSIDE, TOYS, ETC.

MegBusset · 12/02/2015 12:58

I'm working some days but also planning to take them out - the weather never keeps us cooped inside, just put on suitable clothing! We are going on a night walk at a local National Trust estate and probably another day out too. Geocaching is a great way to get kids out and about even if the weather's not brilliant.

Han260678 · 12/02/2015 13:03

We will be seeing lots of friends , it's Lovely to have someone for the kids to play with and also someone to talk to to keep me sane !

When at home we will do simple things, play, colour, bake and hopefully get out in the garden (fingers crossed please for some warmer weather!)

It's tricky with a 5 year old and one year old to keep them both happy but I will try my best!
