The team at Hobbycraft would like to find out the arts and crafts activities you will be doing with your DCs this February half term holiday.

Here’s what Hobbycraft say, “As parents ourselves we know what a challenge it can be to keep the kids entertained away for the TV so for the sake of mum’s everywhere who are in need of inspiration we’d love to know what is your favourite crafting activity to do with the kids?”

The February half term is a tough one on most parents with the weather often keeping children cooped up inside. So what theme will your February half term holiday take? Will you be baking hot goodies to stave off the dreary weather? Will you re-create the outdoors inside by making an indoor den and scenery from recycling? Whatever it is, we want to hear it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where three lucky Mumsnetters will win a £100 Hobbycraft gift card.

Thanks and good luck!

We'll spend some time sorting out the sewing materials so we can make something - maybe a bag or skirt!

BlackeyedSusan · 11/02/2015 21:36

dd is making model molecules out of tissue paper and cocktail sticks.

they will also cut up and scatter various craft resources throughout the whole house...

TheGirlInTheGlass · 11/02/2015 21:36

Firm favourites for my two (14 and 7) are always writing stories and making comic books, along with air drying clay Lego customisation, and making hot chocolate spoons!

making models out of tissue paper and cocktail sticks.

free paly with a range of craft resources... which will get scattered through the wholeflat.

And knitting. I forgot knitting. My eldest thinks it's cool, and a way to distract himself from his teen angst, so knitting it is.

Baking/cooking tends to be our main activity and the little ones are increasing their repertoire of skills bit by bit (or recipe by recipe).
We also do lots of puzzles - pushing that 50 piece boundary at the moment.
Other than that simple colouring activities.
There is the occasional creative 'turn this empty paper towel tube into a telescope/elephant truck/trumpet moment' but not much more than that at the moment

idleweiss · 11/02/2015 22:57

we will be definitely be making a den..we always try and outdo the last den we make..so this one shall be epic! We will also be getting our giant 'crafty box of bits' out and all the cardboard boxes, loo roll tubes and bottles i have been saving to make some robots, castles, whatever takes both my DDs fancy. we are also going to try making our own Lego Movie, so will be making mini props and backdrops! i think i am more excited than them!

It's half term holiday next week for my two small people, so I'm thinking of doing some craft items based on the Chinese New Year as that falls in the middle of next week.
Might make a paper dragon out of paper plates and colour it in, or take the baking route and bake some fortune cookies.
We''ll also be having a traipse through local woods to see if there's any leaves etc that we can press and dry to make decorations out of.

Bambii2511 · 12/02/2015 05:40

During the holidays I will be teaching my son the age old art of cutting the peats this is a gruiling but rewarding job that keeps our house nice and cosy in the winter??

callkiki · 12/02/2015 06:04

Depending on the weather, going to the local park and duck pond. Maybe gathering leaves to make rubbings, potato painting and getting them involved in baking some treats

janeyf1 · 12/02/2015 06:07

I will be taking them to the cinema at least twice but hopefully we will be able to go to the park if the weather behaves

nmthom · 12/02/2015 06:32

Myself and my two boys will be using Avengers wrapping paper to paper mache pieces of their newly decorated bedroom (e.g. little stools and lamps!)

We also enjoy making play dough and keeps the boys entertained for hours!

TracyKNixon · 12/02/2015 06:41

We will be starting to make Easter cards for the grandparents etc. We are also planning to collect some pretty pebbles from our local beach to paint and varnish to place under our 'Easter tree'!

maryandbuzz1 · 12/02/2015 06:46

We will go swimming and try to get into the garden. If the weather is nasty we always love to bake.

barbsbarbs · 12/02/2015 06:54

will be going on lots of nature walks and collected leaves and making a picture out of them

YAsoNBU · 12/02/2015 06:55

We're on a mission to make decorations for our wedding in May. The kids are going to help me fold lots of card into concertinas for paper fans. Which reminds me, I need to make a trip to Hobbycraft for a glue gun and some more card.

DD also has a half term project to make a Roman helmet!

Finally it's also her birthday so there will be some frantic secret cardmaking sessions from the rest of us.

Phew! No doubt my sofas will be turned into dens at several points too.

Petallic · 12/02/2015 07:03

Making bird seed holders for the garden and then probably some follow on stuff like bird watching / drawing the birds we see.

I'll probably crack on with something for Mothers Day also as we have both grandmothers and great grandmothers - and last years coloured pasta necklace took a few days by the time we had made the boxes too.

pusinky · 12/02/2015 07:28

We'll be making cakes and playing in the park. We're also planning to make/decorate Easter eggs.

Sallyannlloydjones · 12/02/2015 07:36

Making and drawing dragons and pirates!

jt75 · 12/02/2015 08:16

We will be going beachcombing and will use what we find to make collages and decorate the garden.

jeniferjamie · 12/02/2015 08:30

We're going to the Disney Frozen sing-a-long! (Think I may end up enjoying it more!) :D

imustbemadme · 12/02/2015 08:36

Actually I try and get the kids outside no matter what the weather. Teaching them that it's about being kitted out properly rather than just avoiding going outside, after all, there's nothing better than the sound of raindrops on your umbrella !

jandoc · 12/02/2015 08:51

we enjoy going to the park when it's not too cold
