The team at Hobbycraft would like to find out the arts and crafts activities you will be doing with your DCs this February half term holiday.

Here’s what Hobbycraft say, “As parents ourselves we know what a challenge it can be to keep the kids entertained away for the TV so for the sake of mum’s everywhere who are in need of inspiration we’d love to know what is your favourite crafting activity to do with the kids?”

The February half term is a tough one on most parents with the weather often keeping children cooped up inside. So what theme will your February half term holiday take? Will you be baking hot goodies to stave off the dreary weather? Will you re-create the outdoors inside by making an indoor den and scenery from recycling? Whatever it is, we want to hear it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where three lucky Mumsnetters will win a £100 Hobbycraft gift card.

Thanks and good luck!

We will be decorating their bedroom, white walls and loads of splashes of bright colours. Craft projects to keep them busy will be simple things like painting canvases of bright colours and up doing charity shop pictures. We buy doom and gloomy sort of pictures and let the dc colour them up.

Will try making cushion covers to match as well.

will also fit in a trip to a zoo/mmuseum/outdoor adventure park sort of thing and a kids club cinema morning.

I'm trying to master crochet so I will be having a go with my children. I love craft Smile

We are making a set of top trumps cards. DS is doing superheroes, he's chosen the heroes and then he will come up with categories and scores and draw pictures on each card.

I'm also thinking of making Ojos decorations as we have string and lollipop sticks! I went through a phase of making tiny ones when I was a teen.

My parents are visiting soon too, and mum usually brings spares from whatever craft activity she's run in her library.

Generally though they like just digging into the big craft box, which is no longer beautifully organised as it was when Santa delivered it at Xmas 2013... It's full of random bits and pieces but they love it. DS likes making collage pictures and DD usually makes dresses for her dolls.

Making hats for world book day. Making hearts for family Valentine dinner and every other craft under the sun including some lovely butterflies with transfers you stick on the wings that I bought on hobbycraft last week! You've got to love the place!

So far we've been on a bus and train journey (just for fun!) and out for dinner and a snack too. We've painted, baked and been swimming. I love spending time with my Son. It's super fun!

I've got 2 days of half term off work! My first proper time off with my 5 year old dd in ages so I'm very excited. Been working full time since June and as it's just the 2 of us and weekends she's often with her dad, she hasn't had much fun time with me for a while. Plan to do a nature walk and collage if it isn't too damp. And maybe make some gloop/play dough/cloud dough (love Pinterest!). She also had a hair band decorating kit for christmas that she hasn't had much chance to use. Basically I just want to spend the two days having fun, giving her loads of attention and making happy memories and banishing the frazzled 'but we don't have time' mummy for a few days. Can't wait :)

Picked up a papier-mâché T-Rex today to do some decoupage with 4 year old DS. BIL bought him a set of letters spelling out his name, a selection of paper and some glue for his birthday and he loved it. Although he thinks decoupage is a silly name for it and it should be called gloopy gluing.

  1. We have a birthday in the house, so a birthday cake is a must-do. I have 2 packs of (Hobby Craft) marzipan left over from Christmas, so I might be back for more rolled icing and make some more fruit cakes, as the ones I made for Christmas were very popular. Grin
  1. I'm learning how to make socks and will be trying the creations on the childrens' at various stages, for fit! I made some gloves with wool from Hobbycraft and I'm really pleased with them.
  1. No doubt our teenagers will have cooking ideas of their own. DD got a bumper pack of things to try out, including a pop cake kit. @I've just picked up a Sainsbury's magazine and am looking forward to adapting some of the vegetable cakes suggested in there. Cardamom carrot pop tarts, anyone?
PeaceOfWildThings · 10/02/2015 17:51

(trying socks on the childrens' feet!)

YerTiz · 10/02/2015 18:22

Making heart shaped biscuits for valentines day, pancakes on shrove tuesday.

Play doh and paints (not at the same time!)

Woodland walks if it's okay weather wise.

clopper · 10/02/2015 18:23

There is a candle making kit that one of them had for Christmas so I think that half term might be a good opportunity to have a look at it. Also we will probably be making jewellery.

ladygoingGaga · 10/02/2015 18:53

Various things, I tend to alternate a day out with a day at home.
So cinema, zoo and swimming on the agenda.
Then so is gardening, DS loves making 'mud pies' in the garden, which basically involves mud in a bucket and adding whatever he can find including somewhat reluctant worms from the compost!
There will no doubt be some baking.
I also use half terms to get ahead in the birthday card front, get DS to design and colour cards in for family members.

HALA · 10/02/2015 19:12

making cards with my children, for mothers day, and my birthday, with a lot of products from Hobbycraft !

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/02/2015 19:16

Hama beads!

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 10/02/2015 19:16

I will be mostly doing crochet! I want to try needle felting too - got a kit for Christmas and half term is the time to try.

We have some craft stuff stored - planning to do a collage and DS2 would like to make a junk model.

We are all into Sewing bee too so the needle and thread will be out - I'm looking for some simple toys for the boys to make.

JeanetteDanielsBenziger · 10/02/2015 19:23

DD wants to learn to knit, I don't know how so we will be learning together via youtube videos and magazines.

DS is showing signs of getting creative so we'll be getting the paints and craft basket out and using lots of glue.

cate16 · 10/02/2015 19:30

Is there an age limit of this...

Me and my daughter will be making wedding invitations :) :) :)

DancingDinosaur · 10/02/2015 19:59

Ds age 5 making a paper mache head, and trying to get his handwriting a bit better. Dd age 7 learning to paint with watercolors and learning to embroider.

Cintacmrs123 · 10/02/2015 20:07

It's my big sister bday so her little ones and mine are making her a painting (modern art) hand prints and pictures of them and anything they want to add to the canvas

mirpuppet · 10/02/2015 20:14

Me and my DS will be sewing a dress for his cousin who is 18 months old.

He loves using the sewing machine.

WarmHugs · 10/02/2015 20:44

We have been making heart paper garlands, so I suspect they will want to do more Valentines crafts.

We shall also be doing some Chinese New Year crafts.

Maiyakat · 10/02/2015 20:51

Baking, sticking, if I'm felling very brave papier mache!

mugglingalong · 10/02/2015 21:00

It is dd2's birthday just after half term so we will be doing craft to get ready for that - making party bags and decorations for the house.

Will also do some pancakes and maybe some craft kits left over from Christmas.

DifferentNow · 10/02/2015 21:05

We only get three days off for half term. We are going to go to the Zoo one of the days. The DC will get maps and use them to navigate the way around their favourite animals. Another day we are going to the beach and while we're there, we'll collect things we find and use them to make pictures when we get home.

Theimpossiblegirl · 10/02/2015 21:06

I know it's not Easter but we'll probably get our bonnets made ready for the school parade just a few weeks after half term.
