The team at Hobbycraft would like to find out the arts and crafts activities you will be doing with your DCs this February half term holiday.

Here’s what Hobbycraft say, “As parents ourselves we know what a challenge it can be to keep the kids entertained away for the TV so for the sake of mum’s everywhere who are in need of inspiration we’d love to know what is your favourite crafting activity to do with the kids?”

The February half term is a tough one on most parents with the weather often keeping children cooped up inside. So what theme will your February half term holiday take? Will you be baking hot goodies to stave off the dreary weather? Will you re-create the outdoors inside by making an indoor den and scenery from recycling? Whatever it is, we want to hear it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where three lucky Mumsnetters will win a £100 Hobbycraft gift card.

Thanks and good luck!

we have some makedo for making cardboard odels

CLINKERVISION1 · 12/02/2015 13:46

I've got the week off work and I'm split between my two kids with different needs. My daughter wants to go prom dress shopping, while my eight year old boy is very creative, so ill be getting loads of cardboard boxes, paint, spare bits of plastic and ill let him decide the agenda. Did it on my last week off and my kitchen was covered in PVA glue and scrap paper so I reckon it will be the same this time :)

We are hoping to do some treasure hunts in the woods! I draw pictures of the treasure to find (a father, a pinecone, a brown leaf, etc) and get the kids to find them. They then get their treasure - a prize!

Candyperfumegirl · 12/02/2015 14:12

making Hello Kitty bracelets!

fridaykitten · 12/02/2015 14:23

we kept busy with baking banana bread and jam tarts - easy recepies for toddlers.

we also did potato print painting and 'magic painting' where you draw first with a white candle then paint over with watery paint to reveal the picture.

we also made puppets, just drew and coloured the characters on card, cut them out and taped to a lollypop stick.

best loved activity though was turning a big cardboard box into a spaceship with some pens and stickers.

Lots of different art work & outdoor nature study if the weather is reasonable

SweetValentine · 12/02/2015 14:51

Our half term is this week! We've been crafting, painting canvasses doing Valentine's activities and at the weekend we'll be making pancakes Smile

Got the bikes out, pumped up the tyres and went for a big bike ride.

roggy45 · 12/02/2015 15:13

My daughter has just got into sewing. Her latest project is a felt mobile. Her stitching is awesome, way better than mine.

oolaroola · 12/02/2015 15:24

Will definitely be getting up to some baking - big cakes or some cookies probably. Also have a recipe for some home made bounty type bars and other chocolates that we want to try soon too.

Collage, painting, drawing and colouring in will probably get a look in.

If I'm feeling brave I may get out the modelling clay to make some figures and bits too.

pazanne · 12/02/2015 15:29

we are about to start a dragon scrap book full of facts and pictures and poems.

jabrady91 · 12/02/2015 15:38

No doubt lots of baking and cooking to fill up my freezer but will also take the dog to the beach and maybe go shell picking to create some pictures.

CMOTDibbler · 12/02/2015 15:50

Apparently we are going to make some cushions, and also 'do some woodwork'. Might be interesting!

sweetcheeks2014 · 12/02/2015 16:12

making paper chains, decorating them for daughter's bedroom

maisiesnan · 12/02/2015 16:12

We shall be having fun making our own play dough, obviously we will then spend the rest of the day playing with it. No doubt we will have a baking day which will be buns and cookies, I have already promised to get the pop up tent out for " camping" in the living room. We will have at least a couple of hours walk through the woods and collect treasures to replenish our stock which will more than likely be followed by doing something arty with some of our collected treasure......a busy week ahead

WhoremoaneeGrainger · 12/02/2015 16:32

DD wants to learn to sew, using MY machine Shock.... (she already hand sews)

She also wants to learn to crochet granny squares so she can join in with the Woolly Hugs squares I make (and she doesn't have the patience (her words) to learn to knit "properly").

We are going swimming with friends on Tuesday (if i get rid of this darned cold), and she would like to go skating with one of her friends later in the week.

LuxuryTrifle · 12/02/2015 16:39

Making faces and spiders out of paper plates and paint (and pipe cleaners). My toddler girl likes this :)

RACHELSMITH45 · 12/02/2015 16:41

I'm looking forward to taking my little girl to the Frozen singalong event locally and also bowling and for lunch with her friends. I will probably visit various play centres and do lots of crafts!!

GwenaelleLaGourmande · 12/02/2015 17:29

Lots of swimming, colouring in, and trips to the post office to send the colouring in to Granny. Nothing very exciting.

Ooh. A trip to the circus. That's exciting.

tubbss · 12/02/2015 17:45

I will be working but my partner will be taking the kids to the park, to see their grand father and to a birthday party

maureen3733 · 12/02/2015 18:03

I will be trying to construct a veg garden. Fingers crossed its a success hopefully teaching the children about nutrition

stewaris · 12/02/2015 18:27

We will be doing a mixture of paid for activities and freebies. For example a cinema visit, walks looking for the first flowers of spring, trip to a fast food joint of their choice, some sort of craft activity at home, baking and room tidying if I can make it fun. Some hope!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/02/2015 18:31

I am most definitely not looking forward to taking DD to the Frozen Singalong, but I will be doing so anyway. I will be drawing the line at dressing up!

ThatBloodyWoman · 12/02/2015 18:34

I'm going to get some cheap bird boxes and get my dc's to decorate them.

carolacr · 12/02/2015 18:49

I'm going to teach my granddaughter how to knit, we have been sewing today, she did very well.
