The team at Hobbycraft would like to find out the arts and crafts activities you will be doing with your DCs this February half term holiday.

Here’s what Hobbycraft say, “As parents ourselves we know what a challenge it can be to keep the kids entertained away for the TV so for the sake of mum’s everywhere who are in need of inspiration we’d love to know what is your favourite crafting activity to do with the kids?”

The February half term is a tough one on most parents with the weather often keeping children cooped up inside. So what theme will your February half term holiday take? Will you be baking hot goodies to stave off the dreary weather? Will you re-create the outdoors inside by making an indoor den and scenery from recycling? Whatever it is, we want to hear it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where three lucky Mumsnetters will win a £100 Hobbycraft gift card.

Thanks and good luck!

Going to the local nature reserve, taking lots of pictures, then let DD process them on the computer to get the best ones to save

We will be making some decorations, ready for Easter and lots of baking.

maria08k · 23/02/2015 20:45

We had a blast!!! We did colouring in ( which i LOVE- very theraputic!) and writing ( my son is 4 and we are keen to get his writing going ) We did crafting easter cards with feathers and foam triangle beaks! And enjoyed LOTS of walks over the cow meadows behind our house....a perfect oppurtunity for me to take some more photos of Ronan enjoying the great outdoors!

We had plans for the half term - a hike outdoors, helping DC1 complete a poster for school, DC2 and DC3 wanted to visit softplay and the sealife centre. None of these came to pass as all three came down with some cold that has a horrid cough attached to it. Classic! x

We went to a beautiful part of the Lake District with the intention of doing some watercolour painting as a family. Sadly the paints never got out the box.

I took the whole week off work for half term as my daughter turned 10 on the 18th so I thought it would be am packed with fun. Unfortunately my Grandad, who has been my best friend and whole world for the past 27 years passed away an was buried on the 16th so that kind of put paid from 24th Jan - 16th Feb for me, but I managed to pull it together for her birthday, had a teaparty with her friends and then went bowling and the pictures.

We had a sleepovers on the Friday and Saturday night with my daughters and their cousins and friends where we made Chicken Nuggets, Pizzas and Mini Cupcakes, had a mask making competition and plate painting. Then on the Sunday I found out I was expecting again :) How much of an eventful week did I have please! Need another week off work just to get over it!
All in all my daughter said it was the best birthday she ever had so it was all worth it :)

Kandboys · 23/02/2015 21:02

We went to Disneyland Paris, can't get much more fun than that!

007hel · 23/02/2015 21:35

Our half term was spent baking brownies. Making pancake monsters. Completing Jigsaw Puzzles. Practicing Phonics

jj32 · 23/02/2015 21:35

Drawing and painting my sons two fav past times at the moment

robyn297 · 23/02/2015 21:37

We spent a lot of time stamping. From potato stamps, to rubber stamps and even hand prints and foot prints.

tiffanycallan · 23/02/2015 21:50

during the half term we ended up baking 100 fairy cakes and spending an hour decorating them all, then we found out some old board games and played for hours.
We even used up the last of the plastiscene and glitter gel making fairy tale characters and window stickers :)

winkymcwinkle · 23/02/2015 21:55

We enjoy baking and this week we also made a ballerina doll, painted and drew.

redstararnie76 · 23/02/2015 22:10

Unfortunately I had to work during this half-term, so my husband was off with the children. He cooked cakes, took them for a walk by the canal, and took them to the park to ride their bikes.

mummysnails · 23/02/2015 22:16

We spent the week making models from junk, drawing pictures, baking. Son got some airdrying clay from hobbycraft and he made a model. Daughter also had fun painting a sun catcher & making paper plate crafts she got from hobbycraft for her birthday

kel1981 · 24/02/2015 09:53

we are making a couple of baby gifts - a blanket and a letter B. My daughter got a sewing machine for xmas so we're putting it to use!

09babisham · 24/02/2015 10:56

As I am a stay at home mum I planned lots of activities to do over the holiday. We went swimming, skating and out for a meal. We saw Shaun the Sheep at the cinema. I took my boys to the local nature reserve and went mini beast hunting. We had a day at our local museum where they had Lego, arts and crafts and even the Cadets from St John's Ambulance in doing first aid with the children. It was a lovely week even if it rained most days x

sleeponeday · 24/02/2015 11:05

Oh, I love Hobbycraft! We baked a lot, and used a ton of Hobbycraft things to do it. Bannoffee pie cupcakes (Hobbycraft salted fudge chunks as sprinkles!), a fruit cake ready to mature as a Simnel one, and my son's perennial favourite, which is just chocolate cornflake cakes with every sort of cupcake sprinkle, dusting powder and topper I can unearth for him.

He likes making cards with stickers, sequins and so on, too. Has made a stack of birthday, get well soon, Easter cards for people, and some Easter egg hunt party invites.

My baking cupboard is basically stocked from Lakeland and Hobbycraft, from the tins to the icing.

rjsmum11 · 24/02/2015 11:12

lots of hide & seek, arts & crafts, play dough modelling and colouring in.. the weather hasn't lent itself to much outdoors action

lindamw · 24/02/2015 13:01

I will be tying them up so they can't get into mischief while I'm out at work!
Only kidding, don't have little ones at home so half term comes and goes!
