After the success of Breaking Bad, Watch With Mumsnet is back with Better Call Saul, a brand new Original series from Netflix.

In this dark comedic prequel to the Emmy-winning Breaking Bad, we meet ambitious small-time lawyer Jimmy McGill six years before he becomes Walter White’s morally challenged attorney, Saul Goodman. We follow as Jimmy (played by Bob Odenkirk) transforms from an optimistic underdog struggling to make ends meet into the notorious legal legend who puts the criminal in 'criminal lawyer'.

With one episode being released on Netflix each week we’d like you to visit the thread at different points throughout the season and let us know your thoughts on what’s going on. We’ll be updating the thread with new topics of discussion surrounding each week’s episode. Episodes will be release every Tuesday only on Netflix. Everyone who joins the discussion will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will win a Toshiba 40” Full HD Freeview HD Smart LED TV* and 6 month Netflix subscription, a further 5 Mumsnetters will win a Better Call Saul goodybag.

Note on spoilers: We want to hear your thoughts on everything, from plot twists to season finales and more - but if you’re talking anything that could reveal important plot details then please put Spoiler at the beginning of your post to warn others who may not have seen it.

Happy watching,
MNHQ

pubeGardens This doesn't fulfil the non- American part of your list, but have you watched Community? I think they've just put 5 seasons on Netflix, it's an awesome show. No murders as far as I can recall! (Or if there are any, they'll only be comedy murders!)

WhatABaklava · 13/02/2015 22:01

gatorade - that's quite a breaking bad spoiler you've put in there!

solastyear · 13/02/2015 22:07

We binge watched BB over December / new year and loved it. BCS has been slow to start but quite intriguing. Sad that he is now working in a cafe. Looking forward to the next one.

GatoradeMeBitch · 13/02/2015 22:17

OMG I'm sorry! I suppose I assumed everyone had already seen it. I'll report it Smile

HelloAurora · 13/02/2015 22:43

Loving it so far. He's a fab character and I'm enjoying watching his pre "better call Saul!" fame days! Just watched episode 2 and liked the "I'm a lawyer not a criminal" conversation. He's clearly conflicted by his wish for wealth and wanting to keep his integrity at the same time but being pulled back into his old dodgy ways.

GatoradeMeBitch · 13/02/2015 22:43

I actually prefer Jimmy/Saul as a main character. We know that Saul will never be a terrible person, a bit shady yes, but not horrible. 'Mijo' for me is up there with some of the best Breaking Bad eps, I've watched it half a dozen times now

bluemoonday · 13/02/2015 23:14

Loved it - particularly enjoyed all the sly nods to Breaking Bad. Looking forward to the rest, I feel sorry for Jimmy/Saul....things have got to get better!

Getting a Netflix trial to watch this, really excited as I loved Breaking Bad (who didn't) and really liked this character.

ProfYaffle · 14/02/2015 07:48

Oh my word! We loved this! So nice to see some old faces. Is the nail bar where he has the office the one he eventually persuades Walt and Skyler to buy in BB?

Annex · 14/02/2015 09:14

Thought it was a slow opening episode but the second was much better, lots of familiar faces and places. Think it's definitely a grower. Does anyone remember Saul's appearance in Curb Your Enthusiasm as a porn star, classic!

MagersfonteinLugg · 14/02/2015 09:16

I am also confused.... who the hell is Chuck?
Brother
Ex boss
Ex loverShock

sockmatcher · 14/02/2015 11:05

I really couldn't get into breaking bad. I started watching it after watching the fall and it just didn't capture me. Plus overwhelmed by how much there is to watch!

GatoradeMeBitch · 14/02/2015 11:06

Chuck is his brother. I think it was mentioned when he went to the lawyers office to try and negotiate with them.

TheImprobableGirl · 14/02/2015 12:55

It's taking me a while to get into it. But i am still yet to see breaking bad!!

nippey · 14/02/2015 14:41

It didn't grab me, but my DH loves it and was excited to see Mike back. He was a massive Breaking Bad fan, I enjoyed it but wasn't as obsessed as him so can see this happening here too!
I will keep watching, it can take a while for me to warm up to things sometimes.

madhairday · 14/02/2015 15:39

We watched the first episode last night.

I can't say I'm sure yet, actually. BB caught us from episode one, it didn't take a few to get into it despite the slow burn nature, but this one I will have to watch more before I decide what I think. I like the way a lot of it reminded me of BB in style, for eg a small thing but the way they slowly wheeled in the TV into the courtroom with its squeaky wheels - very BB! I liked the touches like that.

I kind of like Saul, but couldn't get my head into the Chuck storyline really. I'll report back after episode 2.

BigfootFilesHisToesInYourTea · 14/02/2015 15:44

It was slow-going and the b/w bit at the beginning didn't work, for me. I would much rather binge-watch as others have said. I've watched both episodes and it's not really sucked me in. I'll probably wait til the whole series is up to watch any more episodes. The second one was better, but I'm hardly on the edge of my seat.

RingtheBells · 14/02/2015 16:24

Watched both episodes now and really enjoyed it, so looking forward to the next episode.

Ohmygrood · 14/02/2015 20:50

I love Saul and Breaking Bad, but I didn't love this. It was okay but it wasn't great.
I would have given up half way through the first episode with any other show. I did watch it and it did improve, but apart from Saul and the crazy drugs dealer from BB (who seemed a lot tamer than he is in BB) the characters were too flat. Even Mike - and I love Mike.
It doesn't have the humour that BB had. I read somewhere that they used comedy actors in BB. Perhaps that's the difference.

Whyisitsodifficult · 14/02/2015 22:03

Absolutely loving it! Gutted I have to wait each week for an episode, rather than just gorging the entire series in one go!

smaths · 14/02/2015 22:14

I've only seen the first episode, but it hasn't grabbed me like breaking bad did. A lot of people told me that breaking bad was a slow burner and to stick with it, but DH and I were hooked from the first episode. BCS left us a little bit "meh" - certainly not compelled to watch the second episode immediately even though it was ready to watch. but i have faith!

madalex24 · 14/02/2015 22:14

I havnt seen this new series on NetFlix but i am looking forward to watching it. If it was anything like Breaking Bad I cant wait!

maryandbuzz1 · 14/02/2015 22:20

I had really high hopes before watching and have not been disappointed although it took me a while to get 'into it'

lomega · 14/02/2015 22:34

just finished the second episode and I'm pretty hooked. Love that there are characters from Breaking Bad 'cameoing' in it.
