After the success of Breaking Bad, Watch With Mumsnet is back with Better Call Saul, a brand new Original series from Netflix.

In this dark comedic prequel to the Emmy-winning Breaking Bad, we meet ambitious small-time lawyer Jimmy McGill six years before he becomes Walter White’s morally challenged attorney, Saul Goodman. We follow as Jimmy (played by Bob Odenkirk) transforms from an optimistic underdog struggling to make ends meet into the notorious legal legend who puts the criminal in 'criminal lawyer'.

With one episode being released on Netflix each week we’d like you to visit the thread at different points throughout the season and let us know your thoughts on what’s going on. We’ll be updating the thread with new topics of discussion surrounding each week’s episode. Episodes will be release every Tuesday only on Netflix. Everyone who joins the discussion will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will win a Toshiba 40” Full HD Freeview HD Smart LED TV* and 6 month Netflix subscription, a further 5 Mumsnetters will win a Better Call Saul goodybag.

Note on spoilers: We want to hear your thoughts on everything, from plot twists to season finales and more - but if you’re talking anything that could reveal important plot details then please put Spoiler at the beginning of your post to warn others who may not have seen it.

Happy watching,
MNHQ

I'm really enjoying this. I'm impatient for Saul to find his name though. I've yet to see today's, so I haven't caught up on the thread yet, in case of spoilers.

Myself and my family absolutely loved Breaking Bad so were very happy when Better Call Saul came out. I think Saul has always been an intriguing character as although he is very dodgy he seems to have a big heart. I think introducing Chuck was an excellent idea and am very glad to be finding out about Mike's background too. I think the experience of watching this excellent programme can only be improved by watching it on a nice new tele.

Bifald · 01/04/2015 10:38

Well, I think after last night, the viewer gets it... he's not dodgy, in BB, he played the hand he was dealt, after trying first to be straight as a dye.

He has the 'nose' to find big cases, and the previous episodes have shown him to be honest (he didn't take the kettleman's cash), he is 'decent', bringing the kettlemans back to HMM just for Kim. He also tried to warn the kettlemans when he thought their lives were in danger.

He looked out for his brother, practically, and he pandered to his brother's ideas wrt electromagnetic waves. He can do no more. Intelligence, Decency, Morality........... even a family connection to a big firm, it's still not enough and it'll never be enough to sit at the table with the boys from Georgetown.

Poor Jimmy.

Looking forward to Saul emerging like a great big Phoenix from the ashes. I hope it's next week!!!???

ChoochiWhoo · 01/04/2015 10:38

The bloke whos chuck is a great actor

Lolly12 · 01/04/2015 12:13

Poor Jimmy. All he wanted was his brother to be proud and recognise his achievements. He tried his best to be a great lawyer, but whatever he does won't be good enough. Can see why he 'turns' now.

Can't believe only one episode to go.

mumsbe · 01/04/2015 13:06

Just watched the next 2 episodes I have started watching this every 2 weeks.
Poor Jimmy always has a rough time and even his brother is not on his side.
Iets hope he has a bit luck next week

Cooroo · 01/04/2015 13:18

I loved the Mike story line in the last episode. How cool was he?!

GatoradeMeBitch · 02/04/2015 15:13

Excellent episode this week. Though I knew Chuck was talking to Hamlin about Saul I didn't think he was telling Hamlin not to give him a chance! Saying Jimmy was like a 'chimp with a machine gun' was very unfair considering how Jimmy has been building his career, finding that huge case and taking care of Chuck too!

It was a great episode for Mike too, very funny scene in the car park. I guess Ignatio/Nacho is going to be a big part of the next season.

Bifald · 02/04/2015 20:05

if chuck had had an ounce of respect for Jimmy he would have encouraged him to take the case to another big firm. But he stole the case and the glory right from under Jimmy and made him feel worthless while he was at it. While Jimmy was looking after him.

I take it Chuck isn't mentioned in BB. I can't remember.

GatoradeMeBitch · 02/04/2015 20:15

(SPOILER?) Nope, no Chuck in BB at all, I've rewatched over the last month!

Maybe they become estranged, but considering his brother's problems, I wonder if something more dramatic is going to happen?

Bifald · 02/04/2015 20:29

Thanks Gatoragademebitch, and did you notice, when saul talks to his xw in front of WW and jessie, does he say her name? is it kim?

GatoradeMeBitch · 02/04/2015 21:35

Ooh, I don't know! I kind of hope she doesn't get involved with him (again - her talking about his 'sex robot voice' suggests they have been intimate at some stage!) He talks quite disparagingly about his ex wives on BB. Actually he'll have to get a move on to amass multiple ex wives within this six year time frame!

Bifald · 02/04/2015 23:51

Yes, you wouldn't know whether to wish it on her or not, knowing that it won't work, and she'll probably lose all credibility at HMM. You kind of get the impression something has gone on between them. But they're not at all awkward with each other.

Ellisisland · 03/04/2015 10:13

I forgot about Sauls ex wives.
I really like Kim as a character. Especially the last episode where you know she knows that it's Chucks fault but she takes Jimmy blaming her because she knows the truth will hurt him more.

Can't believe its the last one of the series on Tuesday.

Bifald · 03/04/2015 11:40

oh no, the last one is next Tuesday?? Sad

I know it's not as good as Better Call Saul but I've been watching that other netflix original series "The Returned" which is also released on Tuesday mornings at 7am. I nearly watched the French version but I decided to pace myself and watch the American version as it's so close to the French version apparently. They didn't change much according to viewers who've seen both.

I gorged on series to begin with when I got netflix and now I'm going back to the slightly more old fashioned way of watching one episode of a couple of shows I like and then ahving to wait a week.

Are there any other shows released once a week?

I watched episode one of Bates Motel. It seemed like it could be oK. I couldn't get in to bloodline. I watched the first three and it was like being at work. ALthough I@m told that the hard work is done now and I should go back to it.

Bifald · 03/04/2015 11:41

ps, did anybody win that 40" tv by the way? my son wants one.

Ellisisland · 03/04/2015 12:05

I think that shows released once a week are the ones that are shown on TV in the US. The ones that are released all in one go are normally the ones made for Netflix or have already been on TV.

I quite like waiting a week for each episode as you get to discuss each one rather than burning through them all then having to watch them again to get the nuances. Or maybe I am just a saddo

Bifald · 03/04/2015 12:17

No, not a saddo at all! I get that. I had thought 'oh waiting a week is a thing of the past thank goodness!', but it has made us all savour better call saul I think and like you say, the discussion of it wouldn't be so free with people trying not to spoil it for those behind them. But we're all at the same point.

It's good to have both options now. Some serieses to binge on and some to savour.

GratefulHead · 03/04/2015 12:48

I am still absolutely loving it, can't believe it's the last one next week. It's been my downtime viewing when I have an hour of peace. It hasn't disappointed me at all, not once. Think Vince Gilligan is a genius and also agree that the acto playing Chuck is really good,

MargotLovedTom · 03/04/2015 13:30

Chuck actor may be good but Bob Odenkirk is fantastic. The pure hurt he displayed at Chuck's betrayal washeartbreaking. Saul is BB is an amoral prick (although very amusing and entertaining); Jimmy is a fully-rounded, kind, intelligent, sharp and loveable character.

Chuck is just a horrible shit, getting Hamlin to do his dirty work as well.

Bifald · 03/04/2015 14:30

yes, love Jimmy.

remember, in series one, jimmy is hiding somewhere. he's living in a cold place (?) and working in a donut café, nervously watching customers to see if they've tracked him down or if they just want a cup of coffee. So I wonder if he gets himself in to so much trouble that he has to go on the run.

GatoradeMeBitch · 03/04/2015 20:37

Bifald (SPOILERS) I think it was Skyler who was going to get him in trouble. After so many people died, and she had to negotiate with the police, I think Saul was pretty much the last man standing she could give to them!

Bifald · 03/04/2015 22:25

oh right! I don't think I will watch the whole 7 series again. I did watch the episode where Saul said he used to be Jimmy though, I wouldn't have found it if you hadn't just watched it yourself and told use what Series and which episode.

GatoradeMeBitch · 04/04/2015 00:29

I'm too greedy with BB. I'm sure I'd remember more detail if I didn't marathon it each time!

TenaciousOne · 04/04/2015 08:25

Trying to avoid the spoilers here as I'm a week behind. Really enjoying the relationship between Saul and his brother but you do feel sorry for Saul who seems to have gotten the raw end of the deal.
