After the success of Breaking Bad, Watch With Mumsnet is back with Better Call Saul, a brand new Original series from Netflix.

In this dark comedic prequel to the Emmy-winning Breaking Bad, we meet ambitious small-time lawyer Jimmy McGill six years before he becomes Walter White’s morally challenged attorney, Saul Goodman. We follow as Jimmy (played by Bob Odenkirk) transforms from an optimistic underdog struggling to make ends meet into the notorious legal legend who puts the criminal in 'criminal lawyer'.

With one episode being released on Netflix each week we’d like you to visit the thread at different points throughout the season and let us know your thoughts on what’s going on. We’ll be updating the thread with new topics of discussion surrounding each week’s episode. Episodes will be release every Tuesday only on Netflix. Everyone who joins the discussion will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will win a Toshiba 40” Full HD Freeview HD Smart LED TV* and 6 month Netflix subscription, a further 5 Mumsnetters will win a Better Call Saul goodybag.

Note on spoilers: We want to hear your thoughts on everything, from plot twists to season finales and more - but if you’re talking anything that could reveal important plot details then please put Spoiler at the beginning of your post to warn others who may not have seen it.

Happy watching,
MNHQ

Takes a bit of getting into BUT is growing on me

cookalex · 15/02/2015 13:10

So want to see it I nearly subscribed, but still too busy working & parenting to make good use of netflix!

MoanyMug · 15/02/2015 13:19

I am really enjoying this. It's a change watching one episode a week, but I am anticipating Tuesdays now.

Bob Odenkirk was great in Fargo too. I'm hoping another series of that is commissioned.

mpnuttall · 15/02/2015 13:21

Saul was the best thing about Breaking Bad, can't wait to try this spin off!

0ryx · 15/02/2015 13:28

It's a little slow going, but there have been a few bits that've caught my attention.
Definitely seeing Saul in more endearing light than in Breaking Bad.

pennwood · 15/02/2015 13:58

I thought I wasn't going to like it with such a slow first episode but it has grown on me , so persevere.

jumike2 · 15/02/2015 14:15

Didn't like it at all .. not a very gripping series

Marg2k8 · 15/02/2015 14:15

I haven't watched it, so hope I can still enter the competition.

CarmelasFridge · 15/02/2015 14:18

I loved the first two episodes, possibly even more than Breaking Bad. I thought it was following after BB, I must have missed something as you all know it's his story leading to BB.

sleach · 15/02/2015 14:56

the twists and turns in The Bridge (the danish version) were fantastic i would urge anyone to watch super tv.

kpdchudleigh · 15/02/2015 15:20

I hadn't watched Breaking Bad, (hard to believe, I know!) so felt I needed to catch that first. Mind you, on reading the positive comments in my Facebook news feed I think I need to catch up asap.

lionheart · 15/02/2015 15:56

I think it takes longer for this to grab you. With BB I was drawn in from the very opening. And that mix of comedy and drama which teeters just on the edge of disaster is really difficult to achieve.

JoJoBaldwin · 15/02/2015 16:34

I'm just thrilled with Better Call Saul so far - it really conveys the spirit of Breaking Bad in terms of the clever dialogue and outlandish situations. It has all the hallmarks of a spin-off sitcom that may even eclipse the original, as Frasier was to Cheers. Brilliant!

Mazza66 · 15/02/2015 17:08

I am convinced that I saw Jimmy/Saul nod at figure of Gus as he exited the lifts when arriving at HHM in first episode.

markbarlow68 · 15/02/2015 17:20

No spoiler here - I'm trying to find some time to start watching!

Binglesplodge · 15/02/2015 17:49

We absolutely loved the first 2 episodes though I think watching breaking bad is a prerequisite to enjoying it properly. I can't wait to see what happens next: his transformation into Saul Goodman is going to be fab...

CointreauVersial · 15/02/2015 18:18

Well, we've seen the first two episodes now, and it's just starting to take shape!

I was dying to know how Saul progressed from downtrodden poorly paid public defender to the "criminal" lawyer of Breaking Bad. I always found Saul to be one of the more entertaining characters in BB so looking forward to the rest of the series.

AnimalAddict · 15/02/2015 18:19

Of course I'm enjoying it because BB was so good and anything relating to it was going to make me happy! It's great to be back in that world. I do think it has started out slow but I think that's to be expected. Saul was one of my favourites in BB so I'm definitely expecting amazing things! :)

Marshy · 15/02/2015 18:19

Watching it, loving it.

Big BB followers in this house.

nolene15 · 15/02/2015 18:50

letting this build up then watch all together..Loathe having to wait a full week to see whats going on

Fizzyplonk · 15/02/2015 18:59

My husband has watched it. He was looking forward to it but had doubts that it might not be as good as Breaking Bad. He thought it might end up a poor attempt at 'cashing in' on BB success.
He has, however, thought that the 1st 2 episodes are fantastic.
He commented that it is quite different to BB though so couldn't compare the 2 series.
He also likes that it is released 1 episode at a time, although he knows people who are 'saving them up' to watch at once.

finleypop · 15/02/2015 19:11

Breaking Bad completely passed me by at the time, so I was thrilled to find I could give it a try on my Netflix. Wow!! I could not stop watching it, it was worse than a book that I could not put down.
I always had to watch at least 2 episodes back to back every single night until it was finished!

I am actually glad that I was able to watch it this way, it would have killed me waiting a week for each new episode!

I can'y wait for Better call Saul. Again, I will be waiting till the whole season is on, so I can cope with the suspense by watching back to back episodes

katiecoodle1 · 15/02/2015 19:17

I so didn't know that wasn't his real name! Was it even mentioned during breaking bad....and also I loved the whole parking attendant issue. Can't wait to see how that pans out!
I agree it was ridiculously indulgent from an artistic point of view, but I'm glad that I stuck with it. I'm only gutted that I have to watch only one ep per week - I could very easily do a marathon on this show.

Ikea1234 · 15/02/2015 20:12

Have just watched Breaking Bad....awesome. (I know, I'm behind the times and quite possibly the only person in the universe to have not seen it) must, must, must watch this before everyone else jumps on the bandwagon and I get run over by the wheels!

GatoradeMeBitch · 15/02/2015 20:16

katie, yes, when Saul thinks that Walter is Badger's Irish father he tells him his real name is Jimmy McGill. I'm rewatching!
