After the success of Breaking Bad, Watch With Mumsnet is back with Better Call Saul, a brand new Original series from Netflix.

In this dark comedic prequel to the Emmy-winning Breaking Bad, we meet ambitious small-time lawyer Jimmy McGill six years before he becomes Walter White’s morally challenged attorney, Saul Goodman. We follow as Jimmy (played by Bob Odenkirk) transforms from an optimistic underdog struggling to make ends meet into the notorious legal legend who puts the criminal in 'criminal lawyer'.

With one episode being released on Netflix each week we’d like you to visit the thread at different points throughout the season and let us know your thoughts on what’s going on. We’ll be updating the thread with new topics of discussion surrounding each week’s episode. Episodes will be release every Tuesday only on Netflix. Everyone who joins the discussion will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will win a Toshiba 40” Full HD Freeview HD Smart LED TV* and 6 month Netflix subscription, a further 5 Mumsnetters will win a Better Call Saul goodybag.

Note on spoilers: We want to hear your thoughts on everything, from plot twists to season finales and more - but if you’re talking anything that could reveal important plot details then please put Spoiler at the beginning of your post to warn others who may not have seen it.

Happy watching,
MNHQ

GoEasy, I like his voice as well. ;)

ThatBloodyWoman · 12/02/2015 18:54

Think I might suggest dh watches this.
He enjoyed bb.
Whereas I like Walking Dead and big tv's...

Snowflake15 · 12/02/2015 19:14

Good point whatismylife I don't really get who chuck is is he Jimmys dad/uncle??

Henbur1702 · 12/02/2015 19:14

I'm confused I was going to enter because I don't have a 40" tv or netflix, but it seems I can't enter without netflix because I won't be able to join in the discussions. Am I missing something, please let me know as I was about to downsize my lounge to accommodate a 40"! Grin

Meechimoo · 12/02/2015 19:48

loved both episodes and having had zero interest in Saul when he was on BB, found myself strangely attracted to him in this. I'm glad they are making real drama and not just a lightweight sitcom type show. You can see that they're really trying to explore the character properly (that sounded wanky, sorry) which is what I'd hoped for. And it feels and.looks like BB, so I feel like we've got BB back in a way.

GatoradeMeBitch · 12/02/2015 20:27

I've been commenting on the thread in telly addicts, I didn't see this one. I've just watched the second episode for the third time, so yep I absolutely love it! I was a big BB fan and I love just having the BB world back on TV, but I'm finding Saul's backstory fascinating. I didn't think I would, I considered him quite a two dimensional comedy character on BB, just good for a funny line or two, but I'm loving his character already, particularly after the desert scene in episode two. I'm planning to rewatch Breaking Bad after the series ends with the benefit of all this extra information!

sealight123 · 12/02/2015 20:55

I've not watched any yet. I'm really bad that I have to watch things in bulk so I'm storing up my episodes for a mammoth couch potato episode day :P
SO NO ONE SPOIL IT! :P

evelynj · 12/02/2015 22:35

Loving it! Just caught up & v like bb-Saul is such a conflicted character, makes great viewing so far, ( though anyone with an ounce of sense would surely just have the right number of stickers to leave the car park after the first time....)

exmrs · 12/02/2015 22:58

I'm so excited about this series, I love the character 'Saul'.
I loved the interactions between him and Mike and Saul calling him a troll under a bridge.!
There was rumours of skinny Pete and Badger guest appearing and I hope that is true.

iwasyoungonce · 12/02/2015 23:08

Just watched the first one with DH - we both liked it! It felt very much like watching BB. Same sort of tone and pace.

I have managed to resist watching ep 2 straight away - even though the ending was quite a cliffhanger!

Looking forward to watching this series now. BB was pretty much the only thing I have watched with DH for years that we both enjoyed.

Bumbiscuits · 12/02/2015 23:26

I've really enjoyed the first two episodes. I watched the first one twice.

I've missed not being able to binge watch.

HoraceCope · 13/02/2015 09:52

only watched one, was a bit confused by it, need to see episode 2, love Saul, actor was on radio thus morning.

Girlwhowearsglasses · 13/02/2015 11:09

Have been so looking forward to this. Its a slow burn - but one I'm in for the ride.

ThedementedPenguin · 13/02/2015 11:40

Have waited for ages to see it.

Really enjoyed the first two episodes. Gripping and cannot wait until Tuesday to see some more.

I love the BB connections. Really cannot wait to see more

lynniep · 13/02/2015 15:25

In all honesty - the same thing happened as when we watched Breaking bad. We started watching it. We tried REALLY HARD to like it. But we didn't manage to get to the end of the first episode. I found it hard to care about the main character. My interest was slightly raised by the ripping up of the 26k cheque and what that was all about, but only slightly.

CointreauVersial · 13/02/2015 17:06

Ooh, excellent. I just spotted this on Netflix, and the actor who plays Saul was being interviewed by Chris Evans this morning. It's on my "must watch soon" list, so I'll be back to comment anon.

kissmyheathenass · 13/02/2015 19:21

Loving it so far, ep 2 better than ep, loved seeing tuco 1. I find Saul oddly attractive but I thought he was v. The last moments of the desert scene turned my stomach.

badoomtish · 13/02/2015 19:52

Struggling with BCS if I'm honest - dozed through it :( DH and I agreed that we struggled with it but he has reminded me that we also took a few episodes to get into BB. We shall persevere.

pants228 · 13/02/2015 19:55

I have been looking forward to this and have only watched the first episode and I was a little disappointed, thought it was a little slow but the highlight for the next episode looked good! So glad Mike is in it!

zippey · 13/02/2015 20:07

I watched it but fell asleep during it. Not necessarily a critisism though, I was tired. I will rematch it. From what I saw it looked like a slow burner. Some great set pieces and scenes, and good to see Mike back. Weird to think he goes from a lowly job to head of security for Gus Fring!

It was good to see familiar BB faces.

RockingDuck · 13/02/2015 20:58

haven't seen BB yet... this is another on the to watch list

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/02/2015 21:10

Well I do need a new telly and have been waiting for this because there's not been much on Netflix that has captured my interest since BB and Orange is the New Black, so count me in Xmas Smile

If you're reading this, Netflix, this is what I'd like:

  • more non-American series
  • less murder
  • fewer repeats of things I watched for free the first time round

I realise my interest in BB / OINB contradicts the first two of these requests so please do continue to surprise me but only if it's really, really good.

I haven't watched the first episode yet. I'm not allowed until DD gets back from her BF's and can watch it with me.

whomovedmychocolate · 13/02/2015 21:17

I just rewatched Breaking bad from the start so I was looking forward to it but.....well sorry but I think it's terrible. I've watched the two episodes and while Breaking bad was hard work for the first three, I'm not sure I'm going to get to number three.

The main character is just not compelling enough for me and I find the interspersion of characters from the original series very jarring (hang on, isn't he dead already etc.) It took me to episode two to work out it was a prequel and then it just stopped making any sense.

WhatABaklava · 13/02/2015 21:32

Wow. Watched both episodes. Love Saul, love Tuco. This promises so much - I just hope it can maintain the standards set so far.
