After the success of Breaking Bad, Watch With Mumsnet is back with Better Call Saul, a brand new Original series from Netflix.

In this dark comedic prequel to the Emmy-winning Breaking Bad, we meet ambitious small-time lawyer Jimmy McGill six years before he becomes Walter White’s morally challenged attorney, Saul Goodman. We follow as Jimmy (played by Bob Odenkirk) transforms from an optimistic underdog struggling to make ends meet into the notorious legal legend who puts the criminal in 'criminal lawyer'.

With one episode being released on Netflix each week we’d like you to visit the thread at different points throughout the season and let us know your thoughts on what’s going on. We’ll be updating the thread with new topics of discussion surrounding each week’s episode. Episodes will be release every Tuesday only on Netflix. Everyone who joins the discussion will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will win a Toshiba 40” Full HD Freeview HD Smart LED TV* and 6 month Netflix subscription, a further 5 Mumsnetters will win a Better Call Saul goodybag.

Note on spoilers: We want to hear your thoughts on everything, from plot twists to season finales and more - but if you’re talking anything that could reveal important plot details then please put Spoiler at the beginning of your post to warn others who may not have seen it.

Happy watching,
MNHQ

We're watching this the 'old-fashioned' way after binge-watching most of BB. A promising start I thought. Enjoyed the desert scene ( in a horrible way). Great to see Mike alive and well if not in a very stimulating job.

debbriana · 11/02/2015 20:21

I love it. It will fill the breaking bad void. The only problem is I won't won't have to junk on it. I can wait for the third episode.

MagersfonteinLugg · 11/02/2015 20:29

Have threatened my lot to get to bed early tonight so I can settle down to watch it.
Daren't read this thread in case of spoilers..... Very excited.

CreepyLittleBat · 11/02/2015 21:48

My dh has been looking forward to this for ages (mainly as there seems to be nothing else worth getting excited about on Netflix at the moment) We watched the first episode last night, and both felt it was a typical slow set-up episode. More to be got through than enjoyed really, but by the end I thought the pace was picking up, and will give the second episode a go!

VivaLeBeaver · 11/02/2015 21:55

I've just finished watched all 5 seasons of breaking bad.....took me about six weeks and I loved it.

Too early if Better Call Saul will be as good but I've enjoyed it so far. Think it's got the potential to be as good as BB. I like the idea that you could get different weekly stories as Saul will have different clients, etc.

Ledkr · 11/02/2015 21:59

Arched the first one last night but fell asleep during the second so will be trying agIn tonight.
We loved it and seeing all the bb characters was like coming home after a long holiday.

LittleMissRayofHope · 11/02/2015 22:02

Loved it. Watched episode 1 last night and packed kids off to bed early watched 2 tonight.
I loved Saul in BB so was chuffed to bits when this appeared on my Netflix recommendations!

Awesome to see Mike, another fav character!! Can't wait for it to unravel!

Snowflake15 · 11/02/2015 22:05

Loved it! Agree with PPs about Mike! And gasped when I saw Tuco! Hoping to see more faces from BB as we continue!

Agree also about knowing Jimmy won't really come to harm as he's in BB though

piglet2911 · 11/02/2015 23:21

Watched both today and hooked, can't wait to see how the characters develop!! Smile

ChuckNovice · 11/02/2015 23:49

Enjoying it so far and glad Mike is in it I liked him in BB.

Also what was going on in the first scene in black and white? Is that Saul after BB so after all of this too in disguise?

nikki1978 · 11/02/2015 23:56

Yes I think the first bit in black and white is the present after he changes his identity at the end of bb.

I loved it. Caught my attention more than the start of bb did and i think Saul is a more interesting character than Walter white. I think I am going to prefer it. Watching episode 2 tomorrow.

GoEasyPudding · 12/02/2015 11:17

Watched the first episode last night and loved it.

I was hoping it would be good so was worried it wouldn't match my high expectations but I was really impressed.

Little does my other half know I actually have a simmering crush on the Saul character ever since we watched Breaking Bad. I think it's his voice.

TaurielTest · 12/02/2015 11:59

Just re-watching Breaking Bad (up to the shocking end of season 2) and enjoying all the very clever references, parallels, echoes and visual tricks. Looking forward to BCS, but going to wait to watch in more of a binge in a few weeks I think. I hope it's equally interesting, and I do enjoy the characters of Saul and Mike.

Snowflake15 · 12/02/2015 12:05

Confused GoEasy

WhatismyLife · 12/02/2015 13:04

first episode was pretty boring. I was completely confused about chuck. It was only the last 10 minutes that actually held my interest. If I hadn't seen bb, I'm not sure I would have watched episode 2. DP thought it was great though.

Second episode was brilliant though and now I'm hooked. The desert scene with tuco had a bb 'feel' to it. Can't wait for the next one!

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 12/02/2015 13:25

Not seen it yet, but will be watching soon so marking my place :)

Dwerf · 12/02/2015 15:24

Have watched the first two and am eager for more. I love how Gilligan manages to give his characters moral complexitity. Saul/Jimmy obviously starts out way more moral then he ended up in BB but the other characters are deep and well written too. Tuco and his love for his grandmother is touching; he may be a crazy, violent meth-dealer, but he's gentle with his nan.

BOFster · 12/02/2015 15:33

I've watched both, but as others have said, I miss being able to bingewatch. I'm making up for it by going back to the beginning with Breaking Bad while I'm waiting for the next episode.

sandrapanda · 12/02/2015 16:20

Finished off BB Monday night and jumped straight into Better Call Saul on Tuesday do haven't suffered any BB blues yet.

Found first episode a bit slow but found the same with BB but 2nd episode much better thankfully.

Still trying to workout relationship between Jimmy and Chuck is he a big brother or even his dad?

PTAblues · 12/02/2015 16:54

I really enjoyed the first two episodes. The first b& w bit was great. During BB they had the final scene at the beginning of episodes and the rest of the episode was playing out to how they got to that point. Just like Better Call Saul will be how Jimmy McGill ended up in a Cinnabon in Omaha.
I'm just wondering what's going to happen to Tucos boss/friend. Something nasty no doubt.

LucidCamel · 12/02/2015 17:14

We're holding off until a few more episodes are out so we can binge.

madhairday · 12/02/2015 17:59

Oh hadn't realised this was out now. Will watch tomorrow probably - take it only 2 episodes out so far? Will have to keep binging on Good Wife and House while we're waiting (finished BB few months ago)

AwfulBeryl · 12/02/2015 18:12

I'm really looking forward to the next episode, I want to know if Mike is already dodgy and his job is just a front, or does he "fall in to it" as the story develops.

Hopelass · 12/02/2015 18:41

I binge watched BB while on mat leave last year and loved it! Only seen first episode of BCS so far and I fell asleep Sad. Don't know if I was just very tired or what but I know it didn't grip me from the start like BB. Hoping episode 2 is better

FannyFifer · 12/02/2015 18:51

Love love love it, can't wait till next weeks episode.
