The Christmas festivities are now over, which means it’s time for New Year’s resolutions, re-evaluating our finances and staying in on those long, cold nights. But it doesn’t all need to be doom and gloom… it’s also the perfect time for you and your family to escape with a film, or get stuck into a new TV show – and Netflix has plenty to choose from!

We want to know what you’ll be watching on Netflix to beat the winter blues. Are you enjoying the quirky police comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine? Perhaps you’re catching up on House of Cards in preparation for season 3 in February? Maybe you’ll be indulging in an episode of Breaking Bad?

We’d also like to know what, if anything, your kids love watching on Netflix. Are the little ones obsessed with Spongebob Squarepants? Do they wind down before bed with a Disney film like Toy Story 3 or Brave? Or maybe your teenager is hooked on Gossip Girl? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear about it!

Tell us how your family will be using Netflix to beat the winter blues, and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win an Xbox One* and a 6 months subscription to Netflix!

Thanks

I'm catching up with Lost Girls!

We've just started a netflix trial and I have to say... so far I'm impressed! DC are loving it too! My only complaint if Netflix reads these comments is the lack of password for age restriction and no ability to put an age restriction on over 12's but under 15/18's. Please please add this!

ManAliveThisThingsFantastic · 29/01/2015 17:13

I am rewatching The Royle family at the moment! It's a classic and a scream Grin

MuddlingMackem · 29/01/2015 18:39

I've just blasted through two series of Person of Interest in three weeks. That was great for beating the winter blues.

Now I'm looking for something new, or maybe I'll catch up on a few films. Might give Liillyhammer a go. The kids always enjoy checking out films even if DH and I aren't watching them and they love 'Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse'. To be fair, even DH and I find that good fun. :)

However, good to see some more anime available, so husband and I will be checking out some of that, we keep hearing good things about Attack on Titan. However, it would be good to have some more family friendly anime series.

Speaking of families, I agree with a previous poster, it would be good to be able to refine the restrictions. DS is now old enough for anything up to a 12 certificate, but DH hasn't been able to set such a restriction so he has in theory free reign. Please fix that before our DD is old enough for that level, she's not as trustworthy as DS!

On my trial month. Love 'lie to me' and 'grim'. My girls and I have always loved 'house'so watching that too...

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 30/01/2015 10:18

I enjoyed Lie To Me and Orange is the New Black.
My daughter's watching Pretty Little Liars.
I have the same issue with wishing I could let her watch 12-rated shows.

WarriorOne · 30/01/2015 13:51

House of Cards for me.

Phoenixbee90 · 30/01/2015 19:37

my little ones love Dora and spongebob in the morning then i like to watch the old movies

ChocolateTeacup · 30/01/2015 20:39

Hi, I am a recent convert to Netflix and watch it more than TV for the main reason of no ad breaks! My Children watch How to Train your Dragon Tales and some Lego.

My DH and I love to snuggle up watching:

Lie to Me
Dead Like Me
Alphas
Hansel & Gretel - Witch Hunters
Grimm
Doctor Who

Often we go to watch something and are disappointed to fine it isn't on there Numb3rs for example but then will get distracted by Merlin or something.

I would like to see opening of more stuff that the US gets to watch, even if it mean a slightly higher fee.

ChocolateTeacup · 30/01/2015 20:40

After all at the moment:

Netflix USA: 8584 movies/shows
Netflix UK: 3192 movies/shows

Cataline · 30/01/2015 20:42

We've (DH and I) just finished season 6 of Sons of Anarchy and are thinking about what to watch next. Possibly Orange is the New Black or House of Cards?
I watch the Good Wife (DH refuses to) and think I spotted Pretty Little Liars which is ridiculously exciting as it's a total guilty pleasure!!

TheLostWinchesterWife · 30/01/2015 22:10

I've rediscovered the first series of Call the Midwife and I love it. I've also started watching Merlin again. Using the search I can usually find something that I want to watch and often its something i wouldn't have thought of watching previously.
The children love it and my eldest can watch on her Hudl. The series of Bubble Guppies, Team Oomizoomi and Lego Ninjago get alot of repeat views.

cookiewuk · 30/01/2015 22:18

My partner and I really enjoyed watching Miranda and are now trying to get in to Hemlock Grove. It was great for the whole family to watch Christmas films over the holidays and the kids especially enjoyed festive episodes of Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh. At the moment my 9 year old is loving all the Lego cartoons and films like spy kids and my 20 month old loves My Little Ponies.

Notnowbernard · 31/01/2015 13:29

Me: Louis Theroux series, a docu series on the Nazis, docu about Pantani (cyclist who died a cocaine addict after doping controversies), docu about suicides on Golden Gate Bridge

Me and DP: Don't think we'll ever recover from BB withdrawal...

DC: have discovered the film 'Good Burger' and are obsessed. DS loves Ninjago

We use Netflix loads!

vinoandbrie · 31/01/2015 14:09

I am on maternity leave and have recently discovered Breaking Bad.

I can't get enough of it, currently on series two.

Lining up Orange is the New Black / Pretty Little Things to deal with withdrawal from BB once I've blasted through all the series!

Jodiemac · 31/01/2015 20:58

Watched loads when breastfeeding baby as daytime tv is depressing!! Loved orange is the new black, homeland and scrubs! Need new series of homeland as missed recording the first few weeks!! ??

FourEyesGood · 31/01/2015 21:35

I don't have Netflix but my colleagues keep telling me to watch 'Orange is the New Black', and I've been meaning to watch 'Breaking Bad' for aaaages now.

My DCs, it seems, will watch anything happily as long as it's REALLY ANNOYING.

BadPoet · 31/01/2015 22:54

I'm binge watching Pretty Little Liars - it's fabulously addictive and has got me through a tough January (I have been known to walk around the house watching it on my phone, with subtitles if necessary). I don't have any teenagers but I was hooked on Gossip Girl and PLL has filled that gap nicely.

DH and I are watching Brooklyn 99 just now, he's got a load of work on and deadlines coming up - a short comedy at the end of the day is just what we both need to relax. My favourites are Rosa and Boyle. Actually, no, Gina and Jake. Or maybe Holt and Santiago. Can't decide. I do miss Modern Family though.

Looking forward to catching up on The Good Wife Season 5 and can't wait for the next season of OITNB! I'll probably try Person of Interest or Marco Polo once I run out of PLL. Or maybe House. I've got the DVD box set of Buffy and have watched it many times but it's good to know I can rewatch favourite episodes any time. I love a good series to watch while ironing.

The kids love Inspector Gadget and dd in particular is working her way through Doctor Who. Just seen that there's far more Lego episodes than there used to be - they loved Chima, must try Ninjago & Marvel.

Khady · 31/01/2015 23:18

Currently watching Prison Break!

Backtotherealworld · 01/02/2015 09:54

I love Netflix, there's always something to watch. I especially love finding hidden gems from independent film selection. I'm counting the days until Season 3 of House of Cards premieres. Meanwhile, I'm currently hooked on American Horror Story.

JumpingJetFlash · 01/02/2015 11:17

Watching Season 5 of The Good Wife :-)

I barely get a look in as my 7yr old loves the Kids section and it currently hooked on H2O!!!

DS loves the kids section, he loves watching The Last Airbender cartoon series.

spanglisher · 02/02/2015 03:07

I'm not one for American tv shows and I seem to have seen all the British series on there but I must admit I do like rewatching old 80's movies and the Disney classics although I'm surprised there are so few on there. Eldest son is happily working through all the Jason Statham movies of which there are loads whilst youngest son loves the movie spin-offs like Turbo.Hubby is busy with the foreign language films on his Chromebook so there's not a lot of overlap between our tastes. Thank goodness for our own accounts!

DH & I love Mad Men. We have also recently discovered Silent Witness. Fortunately, both of these series have loads of episodes - DH is currently out of work & we can't afford to go out, so it's nice to have something good to stay in to Grin
