The Christmas festivities are now over, which means it’s time for New Year’s resolutions, re-evaluating our finances and staying in on those long, cold nights. But it doesn’t all need to be doom and gloom… it’s also the perfect time for you and your family to escape with a film, or get stuck into a new TV show – and Netflix has plenty to choose from!

We want to know what you’ll be watching on Netflix to beat the winter blues. Are you enjoying the quirky police comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine? Perhaps you’re catching up on House of Cards in preparation for season 3 in February? Maybe you’ll be indulging in an episode of Breaking Bad?

We’d also like to know what, if anything, your kids love watching on Netflix. Are the little ones obsessed with Spongebob Squarepants? Do they wind down before bed with a Disney film like Toy Story 3 or Brave? Or maybe your teenager is hooked on Gossip Girl? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear about it!

Tell us how your family will be using Netflix to beat the winter blues, and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win an Xbox One* and a 6 months subscription to Netflix!

Thanks

MNHQ

I've been seriously ill recently, and Netflix has been a godsend! Watched all 3 series of Homeland, the first series of Orange is the New Black (my favourite so far!), and I'm now watching The Good Wife, which a friend recommended. Also caught up on Brooklyn 99.

After that, I want to watch the second series of Orange, and then get into House of Cards.

My children enjoyed watching the two Hobbit movies, but they don't watch Netflix anywhere near as much as me. Aged 10-12, there just aren't many movies really for their age group.

AnchorBun · 21/01/2015 19:06

Have watched so much awesome stuff on there I won't list them. We are currently loving Marco Polo and recently watched Flight which was surprisingly good.

My kids are totally mad for Larva, which admittedly, is hilarious.

LittleBallOfFur · 21/01/2015 19:47

DH and I are waiting for the next series of Mad Men. We've started watching Marco Polo which seems pretty good (only on ep 3).

DS likes watching Cars 2, over and over again!

idleweiss · 21/01/2015 21:38

Watching Breaking Bad...as i have only seen the 1st and 2nd series..and that was when it first aired!!! Blush

Princessxo · 21/01/2015 21:47

We're currently rewatching Prison Break. I only watched the first 2 episodes before and never got rounding to watching the rest. Currently on season 3. Oooh, the tension!

MellyJellyBean · 22/01/2015 12:09

I've watched so many series! Orange is the new black, sons of anarchy, breaking bad, fresh meat, Grimm, American horror story-too many to mention, but I'm looking forward to the next seasons!!! My son loves all the anime, my daughter all the girly series and movies, and my youngest son of two is obsessed with bob the builder, cars and cars 2-we use netflix every day in our house! Am considering upgrading so four of us can use it at the same time once my son gets his new tv! Please bring more series to the uk site!!! Walking dead being amongst them!

TapStepBallChange · 22/01/2015 16:13

I've just subscribed as I'm at home for a few weeks recovering from surgery. I'm loving Orange is the New Black, one of the best things I've watched in ages. I've got The Good Wife, Nurse Jackie and House of Cards on my list to watch

Chopchopbusybusy · 22/01/2015 17:56

We have only just got Netflix and so far have watched a few episodes of the Killing. I wish we'd got it a few weeks ago before shelling out on the breaking bad box set! Looking forward to house of cards, Orange is the new black, the good wife and noticed someone has said revenge is on it which I'd like to see. I'm not very impressed with the selection of films on it but I think we'll watch enough series on it to get value for money.

marriageisatrainwreck · 22/01/2015 18:11

We seem to have endless pokemon on.... seen to be hundreds of them to watch.
currently watching Marco polo..... loved Borgia and orange is the new black...... oh and lily hammer!

esmea · 22/01/2015 21:35

DH and I are watching Game of Thrones. DD1 and DD2 have just finished the whole H20 series and have now started on The Wizards of Waverley Place. When it used to air on Disney, DD1 was quite little but they were still part of the family so now kids have started from season 1.

Dolallytats · 23/01/2015 11:42

I used the Netflix free trial, but didn't really sit down and watch anything. I couldn't find anything that really appealed to me. However DH found quite a few films that he liked.

I've been offered another free trial, so I might give it another go.

mrscumberbatch · 23/01/2015 14:27

I am loving Brooklyn Nine Nine. It's the perfect show for warding away the January blues.

Also re-watching Always Sunny in Philedelphia. Still hilarious after however many rewatches. Looking forward to the new season being on Netflix.

Would love to have Game of Thrones to watch for some epic viewing with DP.

mrscumberbatch · 23/01/2015 14:28

How could I forget lilyhammer?!
Grossly under-rated. Better than House of Cards for a Netflix Original series's

ThatBloodyWoman · 23/01/2015 14:32

Been watching Below Zero and Long way round.
Think the kids have been watching dr who.
I want The Walking Dead on netflix.

Maiyakat · 23/01/2015 20:49

If there's classic Disney films on there that would be great for DD, who is just getting old enough for them.

badgerknowsbest · 23/01/2015 21:36

Me and dp are currently watching prison break, can't believe I missed this show I am really enjoying it just finished season one, can't wait to watch the rest (dp works nights and wants me to watch it when he is off but as he has already seen it I may watch a couple of sneaky episodes tonight)

May cancel sky and just start working our way through all the tv series on netflix, definitely going to watch some of the shows mentioned on this thread.

Kathryn89 · 24/01/2015 06:31

I enjoyed the breaking bad series, my partner had already seen. Also all the old classics with robin Williams in, such as toys! The Disney films are great to watch when it's a miserable day!

Hakluyt · 24/01/2015 08:43

As I said, we have a slightly unusual lifestyle- and we're used to parents asking us questions before they let their children stay with us. It's fine. Ask about the candles. I bet they are in safety lanterns. If they are, then let her go- making sure she understands about candles being potentially dangerous and how careful she needs to be.

Hakluyt · 24/01/2015 08:43

Sorry, wrong thread!

MrsPnut · 24/01/2015 08:49

We watched all of breaking bad last year and are currently watching the Tudors. Dd2 watches doctor who all the time and dd1 watches Netflix the most.

ScrambledEggAndToast · 24/01/2015 09:12

Currently watching two box sets. Fresh Meat which is hilarious, it's got Simon from the Inbetweeners in it basically playing the same person Grin Also, just started watching Surviviors which is really good.

cloemd92 · 24/01/2015 13:21

Recently re watched all of Charmed and now onto Breaking Bad, American Horror Story and The Vampire Diaries. I watch Netflix almost daily

suboptimal · 24/01/2015 13:30

In non UK and exist almost exclusively on Netflix. Everyone I know practically signed up within a few days of it coming over here last year!

In the last week, I've watched Jane Eyre, The Duchess, Oz The Great and Powerful.... I am also part way through House of Cards and enjoy Modern Family.

I've just started Gossip Girl though - it's dreadful! Properly trashy and silly, although I bet teens love it.

feckitt · 24/01/2015 19:28

Breaking Bad was amazing. Then my daughter recommended Orange is the New Black. Loved it. I asked her for her next recommendation and she said Suits. Brilliant. So, now watching the next series of Suits. Bit disappointed with the film choices though. Just saying.
