The Christmas festivities are now over, which means it’s time for New Year’s resolutions, re-evaluating our finances and staying in on those long, cold nights. But it doesn’t all need to be doom and gloom… it’s also the perfect time for you and your family to escape with a film, or get stuck into a new TV show – and Netflix has plenty to choose from!

We want to know what you’ll be watching on Netflix to beat the winter blues. Are you enjoying the quirky police comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine? Perhaps you’re catching up on House of Cards in preparation for season 3 in February? Maybe you’ll be indulging in an episode of Breaking Bad?

We’d also like to know what, if anything, your kids love watching on Netflix. Are the little ones obsessed with Spongebob Squarepants? Do they wind down before bed with a Disney film like Toy Story 3 or Brave? Or maybe your teenager is hooked on Gossip Girl? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear about it!

Tell us how your family will be using Netflix to beat the winter blues, and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win an Xbox One* and a 6 months subscription to Netflix!

Thanks

I've been catching up on The Originals since returning home with our newborn. Planning to rewatch all of Gossip Girl too, its my night feed mission! Xx

conquistador · 19/01/2015 21:14

There are so many series' that I'd like to watch on there. We're currently watching 'House' which is fab.

velvetspoon · 19/01/2015 21:19

We're real Netflix fans in this house.

DS2 is currently watching the first few series of Dr Who. He was a bit too young/ scared when they were on tv first time round so is enjoying catching up on them now.

DS1 watched Breaking Bad (then told me the ending Hmm) which he says is the best thing he's ever seen on tv. I persuaded him to watch House of Cards which he recommends (I watched the bbc version back in the 1990s with my late dad, and want to rewatch that though it will be bittersweet). He's also watching the US version of the Office (much better than the UK one apparently...)

As for me, eagerly awaiting the return of Orange is the new Black. Rewatching Peep Show and That Mitchell and Webb Look, both of which are fab.

And because my bf is a fan of Stargate, have started watching it from the v beginning (had never seen it before). One series down, 9 to go Wink

Hopezibah · 19/01/2015 21:24

Toy story 3 is a definite favourite film for our family.

vixo · 20/01/2015 16:22

I have one night a week when my husband is out and I watch utterly rubbish romantic comedies and enjoy every minute! I usually knit as well - my life is properly exciting!

The children are intent on watching horrid Henry at the moment. I need to move them on to something else soon!

upthehammers · 20/01/2015 16:59

my little ones watch Thomas, Rugrats, Brave and most recently seem to have the Postman Pat film on repeat!
When I get time to watch tv I'll put on any girly rom-com I can find or that it recommends based on something else I've watched :)

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 20/01/2015 17:00

I love watching documentaries on Netflix, it's a great way to watch things I missed when they first came
out.

The kids watch series of cartoons all the time - Pokemon is the current favourite!

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 20/01/2015 17:02

I'm watching the last 2 seasons of The Killing and also can't wait for HOC.

Anyone know where I can watch season 3 of Grimm and Sherlock?

TheHoundsBitch · 20/01/2015 17:28

We've just started watching House of Cards, and I'm looking forward to the return of Orange is the new Black. We binge-watched Breaking Bad and Dexter before xmas. Is Nurse Jackie series 5 onwards ever going to be on Netflix? I really enjoyed that show.
Ds loves all the Lego series, and is getting into Puss in Boots now. He always watches something before bed and has really enjoyed the Wild Kratts series.

WillWorkForMoney · 20/01/2015 18:13

Just finished watching Dexter, was going to rewatch The Walking Dead (for the 3rd time) in time for the new series, but you've taken it off Angry
Next is a toss up between
Grimm (series 2)
American Horror Story (series 3) or
Breaking Bad (Series 1)

anothergenericname · 20/01/2015 18:15

I don't have Netflix, which is kind of why I'd like to win the subscription, but I can't enter to win because I don't have it. Catch 22 or what? Baby is coming soon, I've heard Orange is the New Black is good - can you please enter me anyway?

FourAndDone · 20/01/2015 18:16

Me and dh husband are watching homeland.

Dd1 is watching pop pixies
Dd2 is watching h20 mermaids
Dd3 is very loyal and sticking to CBeebies.
Ds is glued to stamps at on YouTube!Grin

CherryAmes · 20/01/2015 19:10

I haven't watched much actual tv for a few years now. It's great to be able to catch up on all the shows I've heard talked about, but at my own pace ie usually binge watching Grin. I started watching Last Tango in Halifax on Netflix. Really not good having to wait a week for the new episodes on BBC now.

DH has been watching Sons of Anarchy and is currently watching Breaking Bad - I watched it last year and recommended it to him. He recommended Fringe, I wasn't that sure to begin with but 10 episodes in and I'm really enjoying it. We are both really looking forward to series 3 of Orange is the New Black. After Fringe I'm hoping to watch the US version of House of Cards.

We all enjoy watching the earlier series of Doctor Who now the DC are old enough. DS also likes documentaries and DD is a huge fan of Winx Club. So far has been excellent value and really suits the way we watch stuff.

lillamyy1 · 20/01/2015 22:43

Just got stuck into House of Cards! Love it!!!!

Kathderoet · 21/01/2015 02:43

love Orange is the new black, the only problem is the inhouse fighting for control of the TV. If the six of us could just agree.

Middleoftheroad · 21/01/2015 09:23

Our family loves Netflix! Hubby and me are watching House of Cards and Lillyhammer, which are superb. I'm re-watching Life on Mars. The kids have been enjoying the LEGO series and my husband loved the film Locke. As a family we have been enjoying some old classics like Ferris Bueller.

woodhill · 21/01/2015 11:27

I am very sad about Anne's death and it won't be the same. I have grown up watching her since the late 70's.

I loved it at Christmas when Blanche complained about the turkey being dry and Deidre eye rolling.

woodhill · 21/01/2015 11:28

sorry wrong thread, Corrie thread disappeared.

TwinkieTwinkle · 21/01/2015 11:31

Was devastated when I finished all of Homeland but perked right up when I found out Pretty Little Liars was coming on to Netflix. Absolutely addicted. Probably as addicted as my son is to watching Lego Chima and Ninjago on it!

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 21/01/2015 11:47

I started watching Orange Is The New Black last night. I have watched the first 3 episodes and going to watch another 3 tonight.

I did watch a film last week called Vampire Academy.

We have only just recently got it again after leaving it before due to moving to rural area with no decent speed for internet. The speed has improved so we have re-instated our Netflix account.

Just a word of warning about watching US Netflix, I did read that Netflix were cracking down on that. Not sure if it was just scaremongering or true though.

Are Netflix watching this? If so please can you put on Hart Of Dixie as I need to watch season 3. Thanks.

aoife24 · 21/01/2015 13:44

Revenge, The Good Wife, the Boss and Damages are all brilliant and have or are keeping me very much amused.

MummyConstant · 21/01/2015 13:47

What don't I watch? That would be a quicker answer for you! I love Netflix.
I have used it for over a year now and adore it. I love the way I can use it room to room, on multiple and different devices and theres an app for it on every device I have at home.

I am currenty watching Hereos, I loved it when it was on the TV and I missed some episodes. So I am using it to catch up with that at the moment. I watched 24, Breaking Bad and Homeland on it. I am glued to the box sets. I mainly watch it on my iPad whilst I am soaking in a hot bath. I spent the majority of my life in the bath, watching Netflix! Next on my list is House of Cards. It looks great and I have added it to my list.

The children use it every day to watch their favourites, Noah mainly superman and Thomas the tank engine. Isla watches the Disney films and Pony cartoons. It is great that there is such a huge collection of programs and films to choose from.

We have recently purchased a smart TV in the lounge which has the Netflix app in built, so it is even easier now to watch Netflix. We also have it as part of our Virgin TIVO box. So there are ample ways to watch Netflix and I have never had an issue with it.

I love that we can pay £5.99 a month and get so much from Netflix, on the many devices we have in our household and for different reasions. The January Blues are here because we spent all our money on Christmas and my birthday, so having an excuse to stay in, cosy up and watch something exciting has never been better!

We have cancelled our sky subscription as it was just too pricey and so are using Netflix lots now. Finally watching breaking bad and have really got into The Shield. My baby is too young for to but there seems to be lots of shows that will entertain her soon enough
