The Christmas festivities are now over, which means it’s time for New Year’s resolutions, re-evaluating our finances and staying in on those long, cold nights. But it doesn’t all need to be doom and gloom… it’s also the perfect time for you and your family to escape with a film, or get stuck into a new TV show – and Netflix has plenty to choose from!

We want to know what you’ll be watching on Netflix to beat the winter blues. Are you enjoying the quirky police comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine? Perhaps you’re catching up on House of Cards in preparation for season 3 in February? Maybe you’ll be indulging in an episode of Breaking Bad?

We’d also like to know what, if anything, your kids love watching on Netflix. Are the little ones obsessed with Spongebob Squarepants? Do they wind down before bed with a Disney film like Toy Story 3 or Brave? Or maybe your teenager is hooked on Gossip Girl? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear about it!

Tell us how your family will be using Netflix to beat the winter blues, and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win an Xbox One* and a 6 months subscription to Netflix!

Thanks

MNHQ

Now on season Three of Pretty Little Liars and trying desperately to work out who the hell "A" is. I have a hunch but apparently they are still showing Season 6 and promising a "big reveal" at the end of that.

I love bounty hunter

BsshBosh · 08/02/2015 08:52

We've enjoyed Sherlock, Lillyhammer, Breaking Bad, House of Cards (can't wait for new season!), Buffy. We don't bother with the movies as too old though Dallas Buyers Club was a real bonus.

DD enjoys Mia and Me, Equestria Girls, Powerpuff Girls, Brave, Horrid Henry.

We keep Netflix because the kids section is excellent and also for House of Cards.

We also have Now TV which is brilliant for box sets.

I'm working my way through series 5 of the vampire diaries.
Last year I spent pretty much the whole of my maternity leave pre baby watching the first 4 seasons. I'm going to remember that pregnancy being curled up with my iPad eating Doritos with TVD

I was really excited when I saw series 5 pop up.

Have completely depended on Netflix during acute morning sickness and being bed bound. Arrested development, the good wife, house, suits, damages. Love it.

pigsinmud · 09/02/2015 10:14

We've just embarked on 24 season 7. A bit of mindless Jack Bauer in the evning is quite relaxing.....too relaxing for me sometimes and I drop off!

deepbreath · 09/02/2015 14:55

We have been watching Outnumbered, Call the Midwife and catching up with several other series that we were latecomers to.

Dd has found it fantastic as she is still off school recovering from 2 major spinal operations in November. She would have gone stir crazy long ago if we didn't have Netflix. She has been watching some more grown up series than some almost 12 year olds would be interested in.

Mytreasureisland · 09/02/2015 22:05

We loved 'Orange is the new black' and can't wait for next series. Just watched 'orphan black'. Very gripping and great, although I get the sense that the writers don't really know where it's going. Hopefully it's not another Lost.

BsshBosh · 10/02/2015 07:58

Have just started Breaking Bad spin-off and Netflix original Better Call Saul. Wow, it's funny and brilliant. IMO this is what Netflix does best: original programming. I think this is why I highly value Netflix these days. More original programming please Netflix!

AnneTwacky · 10/02/2015 14:45

Just found Community's now on Netflix. Grin There goes all my free time for the next few months.

There's also loads of stuff for kids. DD particularly loves Ever After High and Adventure Time

Letitsnow9 · 10/02/2015 16:50

Orange is the new black

Holliegolightlyscat · 10/02/2015 21:08

Were big fans of netflix in our house, we have a big family with 4 kids and there's something for everyone. My eldest ds1 has worked his way through breaking bad and all the American series that are on offer, my dd1 age 9 loves all the cheesy old Disney films, American teen type movies and dd2 age 3 can't get enough of nickelodeons team umizoomi - she practically knows all the words to every episode. also we are all fans of strawberry shortcake, Lego nijago and barbie life in the dream house. My own personal favorite at the moment though? Easy- the recent addition of 80's movie 'adventures in babysitting' starring Elizabeth shue. I nearly fainted with excitement when I saw it on there - me and my bf were obsessed with it when we were about 13 and that's why I love netflix, it has all the new must-watch stuff and then totally random old movies like this!

vincentaroony · 10/02/2015 22:26

Better Call Saul is an excellent new show on Netflix. We loved Breaking Bad and didn't think this spin-off could match up to it - but it does. Twists and turns, excitement, humour, great acting, superb writing.

Love being able to watch box sets on Netflix. Prison Break or Orange is the New Black next? Hmmm. I'll read through this thread for recommendations!

NakedFamilyFightClub · 11/02/2015 09:10

I've just watched the last Brooklyn nine nine, I think it's hilarious, can't wait for the new ones to be available.

I've just discovered it has the original BBC Pride and Prejudice which I'm loving rewatching while I'm cozied up with a blanket and a cup of tea.

Murphy29 · 11/02/2015 09:24

Currently on Sons of Anarchy, already watched House of Cards, Breaking Bad and The Shield. About to start Better Call Saul too.
