The Christmas festivities are now over, which means it’s time for New Year’s resolutions, re-evaluating our finances and staying in on those long, cold nights. But it doesn’t all need to be doom and gloom… it’s also the perfect time for you and your family to escape with a film, or get stuck into a new TV show – and Netflix has plenty to choose from!

We want to know what you’ll be watching on Netflix to beat the winter blues. Are you enjoying the quirky police comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine? Perhaps you’re catching up on House of Cards in preparation for season 3 in February? Maybe you’ll be indulging in an episode of Breaking Bad?

We’d also like to know what, if anything, your kids love watching on Netflix. Are the little ones obsessed with Spongebob Squarepants? Do they wind down before bed with a Disney film like Toy Story 3 or Brave? Or maybe your teenager is hooked on Gossip Girl? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear about it!

Tell us how your family will be using Netflix to beat the winter blues, and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win an Xbox One* and a 6 months subscription to Netflix!

Thanks

MNHQ

I'll be biding my time through the cold winter months with Breaking Bad, whilst I wait impatiently for RuPaul's Drag Race Season Seven.

RuPaul is why I started my Netflix account (Bianca Del Rio is my favourite Queen), and OITNB Season 3 is on my list for Summer.

Forgot to say, my 13yr old watches Adventure Time. Oddest thing going.

0ryx · 15/01/2015 22:19

DH and I have just devoured the entire series of The Good Wife. Enjoying use of my new legal lingo! ;)
Have watched OITNB and Breaking Bad already, after this thread looks like we'll be watching House of Cards next!
I know I should probably leave the house at SOME point but...

DiabloKitten · 15/01/2015 22:31

Oscar
Its a animation series about a lizard in the desert
I came across it ages ago,
Its Japanese at least I think so but funny as anything!
My 19 month old daughter loves it! Mind you so do I lol

rupert23 · 16/01/2015 10:52

my son age 12 loves watching Pokemon on it and it keeps him quiet for ages.

wheretoyougonow · 16/01/2015 10:55

The adults in the house are watching Breaking Bad. It's taken me until the second series to get into it but now I love it.
I am reliving my childhood with my boys by watching The A Team. Still finding it amusing that my 8 year old goes round the house saying, 'I ain't getting on no plane fool'!!

sharond101 · 16/01/2015 13:03

The Goodwife has us hooked. Can't wait on the next Homeland series and just read on here House Of Cards will have another series too, how will I prioritise?

trixymalixy · 16/01/2015 13:50

Breaking bad for the adults. We are about to start house of cards.

The kids love Caillou (sp?)

Downtime1 · 16/01/2015 14:00

We are watching Lillyhammer (Lillehammer) because it doesn't matter how cold it is in UK, it looks colder there!! Great for beating the winter blues.
OH has house of cards on list, maybe when we get round to it. He loved Breaking Bad.

Kids are watching Mr Attenborough's documentaries - new house rule for every cartoon film they have to watch half an hour of documentary so its not just mad kids 'toons every night.

peakypie · 16/01/2015 17:08

we've just started 'orange is the new black', pretty good. also 'arrested development' is going down well. 'toy story 3' seems to be on a fair amount too...

mjmooseface · 16/01/2015 18:01

The Office!!! The 9th and final series went up last week and I couldn't wait to get into it! I just love re-watching it over and over again! Lol

Also... Person of Interest. LOVE that show. But I've very nearly finished it, waaah!

I have about 1,000 things on my list to watch, though. So I will be fine.

The Husband is watching Orange is the New Black, Breaking Bad, Dexter and Brooklyn Nine-Nine and has also started watched that new Netflix exclusive Marco Polo.

We also love to watch Trailer Park Boys together because we find it soso funny! Husband also loves to watch the stand up comedy shows on there and I like the animal documentaries!

Our son, 2, loves Bubble Guppies and won't watch anything else - however hard I try to get him to watch a Disney film with me!!

Although the film content is getting better, I'd say Netflix is definitely the best for TV shows and I have been really impressed with their Original shows, too!

AliceinWinterWonderland · 16/01/2015 19:30

I'm working my way through old series. Warehouse 13 is my current one. I've also gone through Charmed, Fringe, and Doctor Who. I was rather disappointed that Doctor Who was listed as having "new episodes" recently and it was ONE new episode. Seriously ONE new episode? A bit annoying!!

The children have been watching the Adventures of Puss in Boots, Curious George, and anything Pokemon. Ds2 likes to choose a lot of different kids stuff on Netflix, so I'm happy to let him check out different programmes, although some is still too old for him.

hoobypickypicky · 16/01/2015 22:03

The last few nights I've been watching the UK television series 'House of Cards'. I sleep really badly and originally put it on to help me drift off, thinking that it would be dull enough to be a quiet background distraction but I've become completely hooked.

I've even fallen asleep a couple of times, woken up, turned the light on, made a cup of tea and then hit the play buttons again to take up where I left off!

hoobypickypicky · 16/01/2015 22:08

The children argue over what to watch. The disagreements over whether it's going to be Toy Story or Some Like It Hot have to be seen to be believed!

crapcrapcrapcarp · 16/01/2015 22:53

Netflix is amazing. We did Breaking Bad last year and I've been working through The Good Wife but we're ready to start something new now so this thread has been fab for inspiration!

The DC love Power Rangers and most of the films. I love that there's always something new I can choose for them if they're arguing because the selection is so good.

Can't recommend it highly enough :)

lomega · 17/01/2015 20:41

My baby loves all the Disneys on there. I've also caught up on a few I'd not yet seen (and I'm a steadfast Disney lover.) We sat and watched Brave last week when he was poorly, he also loves Mulan and Bambi. He likes Spongebob too but prefers to snuggle down with a longer film.

My DH and I have been enjoying the documentaries (Louis Theroux's weird weekends) and the horror films. Unborn scared the bajeebus out of me last night but it was very good!

Would love the Xbox One and free 6 months as regardless it is money well spent. Can't go wrong for £6 a month. One less item on a takeaway or one less bottle of wine!

Jaijai38 · 18/01/2015 06:44

We have just started House of cards whilst waiting for orange is the new black to return! As for kids seems to be constant princess diaries!

ChesterDrawers · 18/01/2015 07:19

Love Netflix and rarely watch real TV nowadays. Highlights have included Breaking Bad, Orange is the New Black and Suits. Going to have House of Cards to get us through the dark nights now there are a decent number of episodes available.

DS loves anything with superheroes so loves to watch Power Rangers and I think he'll enjoy King Julien too.

Dizzywizz · 18/01/2015 09:17

We're loving Orange is the New Black and ds1 wants to watch Toy Story 3 all day long...

emma85x · 18/01/2015 12:34

DH and I are currently watching Secret State. Really good!

flatbellyfella · 18/01/2015 13:31

I have just finished watching the "Make it or Break it" series on Netflix.

gemmie797 · 18/01/2015 22:51

I love Brooklyn nine-Nine. I've only just discovered it so I'm trying to cram the first season in so I can watch season 2.
My boys love watching the Netflix films, mstly the really old, dated karate style ones, but they end up watching Bedtime Stories at least every couple of weeks!

GetKnitted · 18/01/2015 22:51

Back to back Farscape!

worrybynature · 19/01/2015 07:58

We love Netflix! Watched all of the Breaking Bad series' last year and loved how convenient and cheap it was! I also accidentally forgot to cancel our membership and so was charged an extra month, customer services (in the US) were so helpful, and immediately refunded the payment, even though I only noticed half way through the month.

I am hoping I get picked for a free membership, as would love to start watching Homeland on Netflix, my friends say it is excellent. And if not, £5.99 p/m for on demand access to it seems reasonable!

thewomaninwhite · 19/01/2015 11:34

Orange is the New Black is on my list to watch. I am dying to see it and have only heard good things. I am always slow on the uptake though!
