The Christmas festivities are now over, which means it’s time for New Year’s resolutions, re-evaluating our finances and staying in on those long, cold nights. But it doesn’t all need to be doom and gloom… it’s also the perfect time for you and your family to escape with a film, or get stuck into a new TV show – and Netflix has plenty to choose from!

We want to know what you’ll be watching on Netflix to beat the winter blues. Are you enjoying the quirky police comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine? Perhaps you’re catching up on House of Cards in preparation for season 3 in February? Maybe you’ll be indulging in an episode of Breaking Bad?

We’d also like to know what, if anything, your kids love watching on Netflix. Are the little ones obsessed with Spongebob Squarepants? Do they wind down before bed with a Disney film like Toy Story 3 or Brave? Or maybe your teenager is hooked on Gossip Girl? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear about it!

Tell us how your family will be using Netflix to beat the winter blues, and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win an Xbox One* and a 6 months subscription to Netflix!

Thanks

MNHQ

I am catching up on programmes I keep meaning to watch, so halfway through the Tomorrow People as my commute watch, just starting Breaking Bad with DP after dc's bedtime and the usual Ever After High, Power Rangers & Yo Gabba Gabba for the dc's.

I'm enjoying trawling for things that I probably would never watch but will give a go. I'm a bit sad that all the bbc programmes are going soon (or is that just American Netflix?)

Working my way through sons of Anarchy. Grin

I have managed the whole of the gymnastics series "Make It Or Break It" since New Year...and am desperate for whoever made it to finish where they left off and do another season of it as it ended so abruptly!

I am now re watching House!

junebaby2011 · 14/01/2015 17:29

Dd loves Charlie and Lola!

DH and I are loving Breaking Bad - so glad we had it to watch over Christmas as the standard TV was appalling. We only have 4 more episodes left to watch. Intending to watch House of Cards, Dexter and Orange is the new black next.
DD loves watching I Carly and various films including Monsters inc, Brave, Toy Story etc.

Zippea · 14/01/2015 18:26

I'm in two minds with this as I can see DH and DC getting more value out of this than me.

The subtitling is really poor (am partially hearing) and I don't understand why programmes that are transmitted with subtitles are not available as such on Netflix. It's also a little annoying to see a comedy that had a three series to find one and two available but not three.

If I could hear I would watch the third series of Rev, Breaking Bad, House of Cards, Orange is the only Black (only because I could watch it around the house rather than having to sit on my bed eating chocolate watching the subtitled DVDs......oh wait...!)

DCs would watch Sabrina the Teenage witch if available, HTTYD, Frozen, Sofia etc

SquirrelSwarm · 14/01/2015 18:28

We loved Breaking Bad and House of Cards. Just finished the US version of The Killing. We haven't decided what's next. Lilyhammer or Orange is the New Black. But some things on here I've not heard of, so very tempting.

Merrylegs · 14/01/2015 20:03

Teen DD is obsessed with Vampire Diaries, although there has been rather too much sire-bonding of late. Harrumph. And DH has discovered In the Thick of It, which is basically swearing. I would like to enjoy a middle ground but all I keep finding are Liam Neeson films.

QOD · 14/01/2015 20:15

Brooklyn 99 and orange is the new black series so far this year !

Hmassey · 14/01/2015 20:21

Im getting into bones at the moment already watched season 1-4

My 15month old son loves to watch peppa pig before bed

Iamnotanugget · 14/01/2015 20:38

We have Lovefilm and I'm really enjoying Breaking Bad. I keep considering Netflix but reviews suggest it's not that good. Maybe a 6 month trial could convince me otherwise.....

LennyCrabsticks · 14/01/2015 20:42

I'm bingeing on all of the Vampire Diaries from the beginning. It's glorious.

Scatlett4456 · 14/01/2015 21:13

House of cards, great.

IsabeauMichelle · 14/01/2015 21:15

I have become OBSESSED with Orange Is The New Black. I absolutely love it, and took the day off work yesterday to watch the rest of Season 1 Blush

Have finished The Killing with dd as well, it's amazing.

PfftTheMagicDraco · 14/01/2015 21:17

We've had Netflix for about 6 months. It was good at first, but once you've binged everything you need to catch up on, new shows and movies (decent ones) are few and far between. So we've just switched to NOWTV.

BlahBlahYeahYeah · 14/01/2015 21:23

We don't watch tv all the time, but when we do, We do watch netflix, ALOT. Blush

Dd's watch mia and me, pippi longstocking and horrid Henry. When they've gone to bed, dh and I watch any random movie and usually talk all the way through it

we've started watching Marco Polo (series) this evening, as I type in fact Grin

It's OK...

MAsMum · 14/01/2015 22:57

We loved House of Cards and we have also started watching Breaking Bad. DS loves the Lego episodes in the kids section

thisonehasalittlecar · 15/01/2015 00:04

Another House of Cards fan here. I had Netflix a while ago but wasn't watching a lot of TV in general so cancelled it. Just got another offer of a free trial so I'm going to save it until next month when HoC season 3 comes out! Also liked Orange is the New Black and Dollhouse. The kids watched a lot of Spongebob and sickly Barbie films that I'm trying to block from my mind.

CointreauVersial · 15/01/2015 00:07

Have just started watching Orange is the New Black. Very good.

Haven't seen a lot else of interest on Netflix, though (apart from Breaking Bad, obviously), but the DCs watch all sorts.

MrsKitty · 15/01/2015 09:25

I watched Orange is the New Black and loved it - can't wait for the next series! At the moment I'm watching Homeland and It's always sunny in Philadelphia.

The kids love Lego Ninjago and Lego Chima and watch them in rotation - they must've watched them all at least 3 times now! They also love the old superhero cartoons - x-men, wonder woman, the avengers, silver surfer etc.. and I quite like them too as it reminds me of Saturday morning kids TV when I was a kid!

Jasharps · 15/01/2015 18:27

ME and the littlies watch disney movies usually during the day, Brave, Monsters Inc, Mulan, Toy story 3 and Lilo and Stitch are our favourites. We are pretty devastated by the recent loss of Enchanted though! Over christmas we loved Santa Paws and Mickey Mouse Snowed in at the House of Mouse!

TV shows we watch are Pocoyo, Pingu and Rugrats. When my Rugrats are tucked up in bed me and DH have just watched series 6 of Sons of Anarchy (oh my God the tears!!!), we are just about to watch house of cards and Dexter was another favourite we've just finished.

Loved West of Memphis and Dallas Buyers Club.

For a wee guilty pleasure I've been loving top gun, Scrooged and Pretty in Pink.
