Share how you’ll be using Netflix with your family this Christmas and you could win an iPad mini NOW CLOSED

With Christmas almost here, we’d like to you to share how you’ll be using Netflix with your family over the festive season.

Will you put a film on while you are wrapping your presents? Maybe you’ll be using Netflix to help the kids settle down before bed on Christmas Eve - after all the excitement over the arrival of Santa! Or perhaps you’ll choose a family favourite that everyone can watch together after Christmas dinner?

We’d also love to know what devices your family uses to watch Netflix. Do your kids tend to watch the iPad? Perhaps you and DP snuggle in bed watching on your laptop? Or maybe you use your smart TV when everyone is together as family. Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

Netflix has a selection of family titles, including hit movies like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Brave and Monsters Inc, as well as festive films like Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas, Scrooged and The Search for Santa Paws.

Everyone who comments below about how they think they will use Netflix over the holidays will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win an iPad mini and a 6 month subscription to Netflix.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

Only ever watch it on the SmartTV in the lounge - great for catching up on stuff and finding gems from the past to share with the kids, especially at Christmas when I've got a million and one other things to do!

We have Netflix on our virgin TiVo so it's great for the family to sit around and watch movies. We also have it on our iPhones and iPad so sometimes when the kids are watching Cars for the 1000th time, I like to catch up on TV series on my iPhone. It is great because we can watch on multiple devices and we're not limited to watching the same movie.

loodoo · 23/12/2014 12:42

Never mind Xmas films, my partner and I are addicted to Homeland (we're up to season 3) and that's what we'll be watching over Xmas once our DD is tucked up in bed. We watch on the Wii.

Deafworm · 23/12/2014 13:36

we watch netflix on the ipad, xbox 360, wii and ps3 in various rooms. we watch series of both kids tv and grown up tv on it, im enjoying working my way through House when the kids are in bed and the kids love watching Dr Who as well as other kids series. Im really enjoying the updated veggietales too. over Christmas we will sit down with a bowl of popcorn and chill out with a film or two!

Drinkstoomuchcoffee · 23/12/2014 13:42

We will sit around the TV while DP zaps through Netflix time and again in the vain hope of finding something we all want to watch but have not already seen. DCs and I will then revert to reading books while DP starts to watch w a Bond film for the 100th time before falling asleep with remote in his hand. Xmas Smile

Khady · 23/12/2014 14:38

Well the kids will be watching family oriented/cartoon movies in their room and if I had my way, the adults will be together in the living room watching action movies.

Elleffsee · 23/12/2014 15:17

By using it on my smart TV to watch films/programmes I want to watch rather than the usual weak poor choice that Christmas TV scheduling seems to bring these days.

ALittleFaith · 23/12/2014 15:49

Netflix has changed the way I watch tv. We mostly watch it via our TiVo box or on our (rathered tired!) iPad, the PS4. I also watch it on my phone on my breaks on night shifts. I suspect we'll be annoyed with rubbish tv scheduling again and revert to Netflix box sets by December 27th!

We're new to netflix only joined up a couple of weeks ago. We mainly watch on Smart tv and ipad. We were considering upgrading our sky package to include movies but decided to get netflix instead for more variety. Have watched some of Breaking Bad and looking forward to watching House of Cards. DD has spotted a few films she would like to watch too.

amaradnas · 23/12/2014 23:15

I'll be using Netflix to catch up on movies that I missed, especially the ones to get me in the Christmas spirit!

SaphireSaf · 23/12/2014 23:34

Well, we've been forced to watch cartoon movies with the kids. I say 'forced' but I'm a kid at heart and love it really haha.

tonycarbone · 24/12/2014 07:22

Some Christmas specials eg Royle Family and Outnumbered

Stujobohm · 24/12/2014 12:23

I will be letting the kids watching some of their favourite TV shoes ????????

Compermo · 26/12/2014 17:02

We'll sort out something to suit whoever happens to be here: Grandpa likes documentaries, Granny likes comedies and thrillers, and we all like the family and Christmas films. So there's always something for everybody.

F1REFLY · 27/12/2014 11:51

We were planning to finally finish watching Breaking Bad, as both myself and DH have two weeks off and it seemed ideal (and we seem to be the only people who hadn't seen it!)- until we all got a nasty flu, DS included, which means not getting enough sleep through the night and going to bed early..
11 days of flu and 5 days of antibiotics and we are slowly getting better - so may be tonight is the night we start!

Freakingthefeckout · 27/12/2014 13:27

I've had quite a rough Christmas this year, work-related emergency means I had to cancel a lot of my plans to be there for two small children. Netflix was unbelievably useful during that time, we watched films snuggled up in bed on my phone and it was a great distraction from the circumstances.

I'm home now, and it's continued to be useful as I got a septic throat infection and I'm not much use to anybody until I recover. So I'm bingeing on Marco Polo and Breaking Bad at the moment.

We had a scary moment last night when our internet looked like it was cut off and we were faced with having to interact with each other and possibly the outside world. Luckily it came back on so we resumed watching the shows, drinking mulled wine and eating ourselves into a food coma. The perfect family Christmas.

Keletubbie · 27/12/2014 20:57

One word. Scrooged.

My DD thought it was brilliant.

We spent Boxing Day in bed together watching festive films on the iPad as DP had to go away for a few days - bliss!

Myself and my 6 year old son watch films on Netflix on our computer.
He loves all the lego movies and Ninjago films

QueenOfAllBiscuitsandMuffins · 30/12/2014 12:15

Dh and I will be watching the Second Season of House of Cards every night with a large glass of wine in our hands on TV piped thru the laptop.
DD (4) will be watching Max&Ruby on the iPad when she is falling asleep.
DS (6) will be watching Ninjago on the ipad when he wakes up at 5am.

Jessparis1 · 30/12/2014 14:43

We use netflix on a daily basis... Have Apple TV set up so makes watching films off my iPad really easy. Over the holidays especially in the cold weather we enjoy watching movies together as a family. Netflix categorizes their film genre so it's easy to pick out a film we feel like watching. During the holidays undoubtedly we love watching christmas themed films... Netflix has a great selection of these :)

Johnmeh · 30/12/2014 17:28

Watching christmas movies and tv christmas specials on our new smart tv

nerysw · 31/12/2014 15:19

We have Amazon not Netflix but are considering a free trial once all the good Christmas telly is over, mainly for family films but also because I need to see what Breaking Bad is like after all the hype.

TenMinutesEarly · 02/01/2015 17:51

Dh got me Netflix as a Christmas surprise. So far we have watched an early New Years countdown with the children as they couldn't stay awake any longer. They have also been able to watch netflix on the iPad with earphones. Absolute bliss. When the children are in Bed we watch Breaking Bad. Grin
