With Christmas almost here, we’d like to you to share how you’ll be using Netflix with your family over the festive season.

Will you put a film on while you are wrapping your presents? Maybe you’ll be using Netflix to help the kids settle down before bed on Christmas Eve - after all the excitement over the arrival of Santa! Or perhaps you’ll choose a family favourite that everyone can watch together after Christmas dinner?

We’d also love to know what devices your family uses to watch Netflix. Do your kids tend to watch the iPad? Perhaps you and DP snuggle in bed watching on your laptop? Or maybe you use your smart TV when everyone is together as family. Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

Netflix has a selection of family titles, including hit movies like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Brave and Monsters Inc, as well as festive films like Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas, Scrooged and The Search for Santa Paws.

Everyone who comments below about how they think they will use Netflix over the holidays will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win an iPad mini and a 6 month subscription to Netflix.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

Family and I are going to watch the Virunga documentary. Really really excited.

tanyavt · 22/12/2014 12:27

Kids love looking for their favourite films and programmes on netflix... the only arguments are what to watch... and one always ends up in their room with a tablet to watch something different-- could do with another tablet so that I could banish them all to their rooms and I could watch what I want to watch on netflix! ;-)

kazt2978 · 22/12/2014 12:36

me and my little one watch 'Mickeys Twice Upon a christmas' in bed when we wake up in the mornings, all snuggled under the covers.

fiMay · 22/12/2014 12:37

We'll be watching "Mickeys Twice Upon A Christmas" on Christmas Eve night while were all tucked up in bed. I only have a big Laptop to watch it on as portable, it would be a lot easier with an iPad!

jill316 · 22/12/2014 12:51

My boys use Netflix in their room to watch the kids progs , they had a turbo series that you could only watch on Netflix that they loved and now there's a Madagascar series about king Julian that their all excited to watch. They watch it more than I do although sometimes we have movie nites where we'll pick something from off there to watch

We will be using it as a balm for a tired LO to offset the excitement and enjoying or fave shows in the quiet time before we fall asleep exhausted at the end of the day. Not enough energy for a full film, but with Netflix we can do them in instalments!

Netflix already came up trumps yesterday by offering Season 2 of 'Adventure Time' - kept my DS busy enough to let me wrap his presents (he was using the family iPad). As a family we'll use the Tivo box to watch movies on Netflix in living room. Holidays are big movie watching periods for us all year round, but especially at Christmas when we're all a bit tired and the weather is not always good (it's Scotland FGS). We've been saving the last ever "IT Crowd' on Netflix for a special occasion! Great that we can access Netflix on a laptop at Granny's house too - that's helped solve a few "I'm bored, can we go home yet?" situations.

We use Netflix on kindle fire hd, virgin media on television , we will be watching Netflix with our 2 children as a family watching plenty of christmas movies it's nice to sit down as a family and enjoy spending time together :)

trueblonde · 22/12/2014 13:13

Now the kids have finished school, and most of my shopping done, we snuggle up in the afternoon watching any movies we want to, christmas ones, sad ones and funny ones, it is a good way of bonding, and the kids love it as they get to choose

keithymon88 · 22/12/2014 13:17

I`m gonna be using Netflix to watch some classic comedy like Blackadder and, mainly, to gorge myself on a serious re-viewing of Breaking Bad, the best TV series ever, bar none.

phillie1 · 22/12/2014 13:19

To watch family films together, with some homemade popcorn, much much cheaper than a trip to the local odeon!

flowerPowere · 22/12/2014 13:42

Ill be aiming to watch every single christmas film on there!
Ive been a series junkie all year!

LilyPad72 · 22/12/2014 13:43

Hubble and I will be watching in blissful adult seclusion, cuddled up on the sofa with Christmas treats, safely after the overexcited and - probably over emotional - toddlers have gone to bed!

Lozmatoz · 22/12/2014 13:56

We watch endless thomas the tank through Apple TV and are excited about Cars 2 coming to Netflix! That's for our 2 year old. I'm wishing the next series of orange is the new black was out as I've watched it all in the dark, in my bedroom on the iPad while feeding our new baby girl.

becsmatthews · 22/12/2014 14:03

I love reading and once I finish a book I like to see the book come to life in film. Last night I watch Ender's Game on Netflix and tonight I think I will watch the Moth Diaries. There are so many books to movies I want to watch that once the kids are asleep I will snuggle with a blanket in front of my smart tv and watch them in peace. But I'm sure the children will have their fill of movies as they will watch all the many Disney movies while I cook their Christmas dinner. So much choice but on Christmas Day we will find some time to watch a Christmas Carol.

Jdmwestlondon · 22/12/2014 14:04

My 3 year old son loves loves loves Pokoyo so he watches this on Netflix on my increasingly battered tablet while I get supper ready on non-nursery days, and it's quite cute listening to him chuckling away at it. This Xmas we are going to my brother-in-law's over Xmas so he'll be watching it on his uncle's tablet as well as Cars which I have told him he can watch while I enjoy a few drinks!

ilovelamp78 · 22/12/2014 14:26

Netflix has been my pregnancy insomnia saviour! I watch box sets at 4am and recently downloaded the iPhone app, so I don't even have to get out of bed, or disturb the husband. I foresee this behaviour continuing, just started "The Killing"....already addicted!

liztd · 22/12/2014 14:40

We mainly watch box sets with the kids like Mia and Me or Dinosaur Train / Walking with Dinosaurs. I find the film choice limited so have subscribed to Sky for the month.
I do love the way we can watch on our ipad, phone or chromecast onto the TV wherever there's www access but would love to be able to download content too for times where access is limited (like the end of a meal out)

BigBirthdayGloom · 22/12/2014 14:49

We will use Netflix instead of DVDs for the children this Christmas. And dh and I will be finding a new box set to replace Breaking Bad!

Eleanor1000 · 22/12/2014 14:52

I have Netflix on a laptop and iPad - watched several Christmassy films so far which were very child friendly so toddler could watch them too

Cosmos58 · 22/12/2014 14:56

Xmas day Netflix on our SmartTV, watching 'Brave' with my 8 year old.

And later on mega binge of 'Marco Polo' hopefully my husband will have caught up (I watched 3 episodes back to back whilst he was out at work do).

I don't watch normal TV anymore.. House of Cards was my break away moment.

marellocherry25 · 22/12/2014 14:57

Lazy afternoons with cheese and port and any movie that grand our fancy.

Notname · 22/12/2014 15:03

We bought a smart tv which we can watch Netflix on a couple of weeks ago. Since Ben we've all been ill on and off so it's barely been off! DH and I have been watching Breaking Bad and have a load of other box sets lined up em for when we finish that, the kids have been watching Pococyo, ninjago and King Julian (fab) and we've watched a couple of christmas films as a family. We've also been watching on the iPhone occasionaly - useful when I had to nip into work for an hour and take three year old DD with me!

derryvoid · 22/12/2014 15:05

We don't have the normal TV hooked up in our house, so we depend soley on Netflix (played through the X-Box) for watching movies. This week the three of us have been taking it in turns each evening to choose a christmas movie and settle down in front of a roaring fire, pj's on and lots of yummy snacks! Bliss!

Emfreya12 · 22/12/2014 15:11
