With Christmas almost here, we’d like to you to share how you’ll be using Netflix with your family over the festive season.

Will you put a film on while you are wrapping your presents? Maybe you’ll be using Netflix to help the kids settle down before bed on Christmas Eve - after all the excitement over the arrival of Santa! Or perhaps you’ll choose a family favourite that everyone can watch together after Christmas dinner?

We’d also love to know what devices your family uses to watch Netflix. Do your kids tend to watch the iPad? Perhaps you and DP snuggle in bed watching on your laptop? Or maybe you use your smart TV when everyone is together as family. Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

Netflix has a selection of family titles, including hit movies like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Brave and Monsters Inc, as well as festive films like Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas, Scrooged and The Search for Santa Paws.

Everyone who comments below about how they think they will use Netflix over the holidays will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win an iPad mini and a 6 month subscription to Netflix.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

We'll use netflix for family movie nights, which will ne more frequent over the christmas holidays.
The children love watching previously unfamiliar cartoon series.
DH and I will probably start watching another 'box set' on netflix in december.

Peepants78 · 01/12/2014 15:29

ooops. That was long and gushy. We don't even watch tv that much. But we do love Netflix. As a bonus there are no adverts!

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 01/12/2014 15:52

We use Netflix on a smart TV and laptop. We're expecting our first baby Christmas week, so we're planning on holing up on our own with Netflix and getting through some box sets before the new arrival! Currently enjoying Homeland and Rome.

ceridwyn · 01/12/2014 16:36

After dinner and before bedtime story my children choose an episode or film that they want to watch together. Once they're in bed I tend to binge watch series whilst feeding the baby.

gleegeek · 01/12/2014 16:45

I'm feeling very technically inadequate after reading this threadBlush We don't have Netflix yet but reading through, I think we're missing out. DD (11) watches way too much American trash (Disney channel) I wonder if Netflix might help us to control the drivel and channel her towards some more quality rather than quantity? We have a Wii U, so could watch it through that (didn't realise that was possible!) I love the sound of watching through tablets etc and I'm a sucker for Christmas movies, the schmaltzier the better! We don't possess anything 'i' yet though...

Newshoesplease · 01/12/2014 17:11

Xmas eve will mean unwrapping the xmas pjs, hot chocolate, marshmallows and a vote on a festive film to watch together! Cosy!

LordJabuJabu · 01/12/2014 17:19

Trying to work out if it's too early to watch Scrooged!

Firstly we'll be watching Netflix on the iPad durin the night feeds (baby 3 due 13th dec), something festive like SOA!

We'll watch the Christmas family films in the week leading upto Christmas & will no doubt find something like Criminal Minds or Lie to me to watch when family are staying over & we need something inoffensive!

PesoPenguin · 01/12/2014 17:33

Ds watches it a lot on his iPad ans me and dh watch with our iPads plugged into the tv. I've looked for Christmassy films, but haven't found many, what am I doing wrong?!

Sarahseabury · 01/12/2014 18:09

We'll be taking advantage of all the family films and christmas movies!

Redtartanshoes · 01/12/2014 18:53

We use the ipad ps3 to access films/ Netflix. Ds will happily watch Christmas films such as Elf and HomeAlone all year round so it's great to be able to access them.

I tend to watch a film
While I'm ironing, makes it seem like less of a chore...although perhaps means the ironing isn't as great as it should beGrin

VirginiaWoofs · 01/12/2014 19:56

We use Google chromecast with an iPhone or iPad to watch Netflix.

I'm personally going to be using Netflix to watch American Horror Story (not very Christmassy!) when everyone is out. When we're all together we'll be using it to watch any Christmas films. The Disney films, also, are a hit with little ones in the family at the moment.

evelynj · 01/12/2014 20:01

We love Netflix! But please more more more box sets & hurry with orange is the new black-NEED a new series. Love how it has changed tv watching-who'd'a thunk just 5 years ago that we'd be watching programmes that only go on the Internet?!

We watch on the 'big' tv, iPad & laptop. Kids love anything on Netflix & we love getting them to bed for the grown up stuff. Please make uk Netflix have the same library as US & more world cinema stuff as we'll be running out soon. Would love an iPad mini too, festive cheers :)

Llareggub · 01/12/2014 20:13

I watch on the iPad in when I'm cooking or cleaning, so it travels to wherever I am. My sons watch via the TiVo.

In my bedroom I can watch it through the PS3.

Lately we've started to watch it as a family on a Friday night and snuggling on the sofa with nice food.

On Christmas Day I expect it won't be on at all, but we'll probably watch a Christmassy film on Christmas Eve or in the week leading up to it. That's if I can get younger DS off Power Rangers.

tiredteddy · 01/12/2014 20:24

We are enjoying the drama series Damages at the moment in the evening when the kids are in bed. Watching series 3 now whilst planning and making lists, I think there's enough series left for us to get through the wrapping too! The kids live netflix for all there favourite shows after school, Regular Show is too at the moment. My husband will start on The Sunday afternoon compulsory christmas movie now as well so hope we find some in netflix! Wink

Nouseforausername · 01/12/2014 20:32

considering the fact ive had a Christmas film on a day here for weeks now thats what the 3 streaming services will be used for Grin

lilyloo · 01/12/2014 21:19

We watch Netflix on dps phone. Hopefully Santa will be replacing the dc tablet we had stolen on holiday earlier this year so we can watch it on there to.
That's one of the best parts of Christmas, all being able to sit together and watch a film.

Nerf · 01/12/2014 21:19

We use Netflix and prime instead of tv really. I love netflix for the film selection, because the dcs love watching things and I know it won't flick to something inappropriate (unlike tv) . They have it on their kindles for sick days, Friday and Saturday nights, and we have it in the tv downstairs, and my iPhone. Phew!

EskSmith · 01/12/2014 21:30

We generally watch on the tv (via Chromecast controlled by android tablet). Looking forward to loads of Christmas films. The great thing is that we can take it with us to grandparents over the holidays ( we go away for over a week) and the kids can watch on their tablets (ive already installed it on the hudl2 dd2 is getting for christmas) when they aren't interested in what the adults are watching.

iwasyoungonce · 01/12/2014 21:40

DD will be watching all the xmas films, and DS will be watching Team Umizoomi.... over and over... on the Ipad!

We us Netflix a lot in this family!

cate16 · 01/12/2014 21:43

Sometimes on the TV as a family, but usually it;s just me on the ipad snuggled up in bed watching the back-to-back things no-one else wants to watch.

Daughter (grown up) often on her TV in her room though the ipad ,

QOD · 01/12/2014 21:46

Dd watches on the lap top with ear phones on, me on the I pad
I watch series from start to finish and she watches films

Keepcalmanddrinkwine · 01/12/2014 22:36

DH is working lates in the run up to Christmas so we (myself and the DDs) will be watching chickflicks, Gossip Girl and Vampire Diaries.

Jux · 01/12/2014 22:42

I signed up for Netflix a week or so ago because our local dvd/video lending shop closed down. So far we haven't found any of the things we wanted to see, so it's unlikely we'll be using it at all.

Nocarbs · 01/12/2014 22:52

Would love to be able to bring my whole family together with a great classic film or two on Christmas Eve. Quite often my 9yr old hibernates in his room and 6yr old prefers wwe! So quality family time together on this special day would be a new started family tradition, before my husband/children's daddy goes to work over Christmas and new year, as he does every year.

Baconknickers · 01/12/2014 22:57

We will catch all these cheesy Christmas films together in bed in the mornings once school broken up in bed together, loads of good Disney family ones in Netflix
Nice to have something light and fluffy to watch with the nipper after my usual diet if homelamd and fall post their bedtime ...
