Share how you’ll be using Netflix with your family this Christmas and you could win an iPad mini NOW CLOSED

With Christmas almost here, we’d like to you to share how you’ll be using Netflix with your family over the festive season.

Will you put a film on while you are wrapping your presents? Maybe you’ll be using Netflix to help the kids settle down before bed on Christmas Eve - after all the excitement over the arrival of Santa! Or perhaps you’ll choose a family favourite that everyone can watch together after Christmas dinner?

We’d also love to know what devices your family uses to watch Netflix. Do your kids tend to watch the iPad? Perhaps you and DP snuggle in bed watching on your laptop? Or maybe you use your smart TV when everyone is together as family. Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

Netflix has a selection of family titles, including hit movies like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Brave and Monsters Inc, as well as festive films like Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas, Scrooged and The Search for Santa Paws.

Everyone who comments below about how they think they will use Netflix over the holidays will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win an iPad mini and a 6 month subscription to Netflix.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

We use it rarely, tbh, but whenever we do go to use it im glad we still have it!
Used it this evening to watch Christmas films whilst wrapping my presents!!

SahraO · 18/12/2014 15:39

I like netflix but I don't think they have a wide variety. However, that said, my kids love watching on the iPad and they're always lying on their fronts and so engrossed in whatever they're watching that it's like they're in a different world lol.

The adults watch it on the large screen TV in the living room.

russiandwarf · 18/12/2014 15:45

First Christmas with Netflix, watched Scrooged last night in bed and then started another film (I was supposed to be wrapping presents Wink )
I watch it on iPad around the house. Nothing like putting a Christmas film on while you're cooking, lounging in bed or having a hot bath!

unadulterateddad · 18/12/2014 16:34

Snuggling up in bed watch cheesy movies with DS is the best way to watch netflix

Sofarris · 18/12/2014 17:04

I think we'll be using it to watch a nice Christmasy film or two after Christmas dinner. It will give us time for out tummies to set before dessert :)

piratetoes · 18/12/2014 19:36

We use Netflix in the evenings when the children have gone to bed, on the tv in the sitting room. We mainly catch up on box sets to relax but I will be checking out what Christmas family films there are for the school holidays!

Snoozie101 · 18/12/2014 19:46

I don't have Netflix, so won't be using it. Maybe if I win I'll find time to watch!

OhFestiveDay · 18/12/2014 19:51

We don't have netflix now, but we're buying ourselves a nexus and a chromecast for christmas so will probably get netflix to use with that. Just seen it has Monsters Inc. That would definitely get watched as our DVD version has got scratched to death.

manfalou · 18/12/2014 22:03

We only watch movies in the living room on the main TV… we don't have a TV in any other room and whilst we do have tablets we don't watch movies on them, movies are a family experience and something to be shared.

We've been watching christmas movies since they were available! The boys love the Mickeys Christmas and I think it has to be our must watch programme on christmas eve. When the boys have gone to bed on xmas day I me and the other half MAY indulge in a mince pie and a more adult christmas movie

ThePortlyPinUp · 18/12/2014 22:14

I have just binge watched the netflix series Marco Polo, obviously not family viewing but well worth a watch for grown ups.

sleepyhead · 19/12/2014 14:07

I'm planning a couple of cosy afternoons with the dcs next week with their choice of film on Netflix.

Not very festive, but Dh & I have watched the first two series of Whitechapel back to back and are looking forward to the third while wrapping the Christmas presents over the weekend.

babylily · 19/12/2014 22:58

Family time...quiet tablet time.....time to watch things siblings don't want to..a little bit of muppet movie a teeny bit of fireman sam...
Marco Polo when they go to bed!

ChristmasEva50 · 20/12/2014 08:22

Ds2 (17) watches films on Netflix on his laptop and ds3 (8) watches the children's films on his iPad. Dh and I rarely get to watch anything!

seche0911 · 20/12/2014 18:38

We all use Netflix in this household, dh and I watch movies on the laptop in bed most nights and every Friday (family film night) we take it in turns to pick a Netflix movie we all watch together. We don't have a tablet but would love one to be able to watch movies on the go! Grin

HoneywithLemon · 20/12/2014 20:39

The DDs watch all sorts on the laptop (usually hold up in their rooms!). I like to watch a boxset whilst DH watches action films, Now and again we'll all watch a film together.

greeneggsandjam · 21/12/2014 08:26

We watch it together just before we go to sleep on my laptop. We don't watch a whole film/episode but break it into chunks of around half an hour as there often isn't time to watch a whole film. This is really easy to do on Netflix because your place is saved for when you next go back to watch it. We are working our way through lots of the festive films but I am a bit disappointed that a few things I would like to watch aren't available on Netflix.

Dumpyandabdabs · 22/12/2014 00:53

We recently got our first smart TV and signed up to the free trial of netflix, as a family we use it quite a lot but not that often all together. My husband and I are working our way through all the fantastic box sets (The killing, Orange is the New Black, House of cards etc), my son likes the movies, Captain America and The Avengers and my daughter likes all the slightly cheesey kids series that are on; she is currently slightly obsessed with Mia and Me and the Animated shorts. The free Trial ended last month and we have decided to keep up our subscription and reduce our sky package. I only wish The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones were on Netflix then I could ditch Sky altogether!

Belo · 22/12/2014 11:12

Watching the last 3 episodes of House of Cards Season 2 back to back!

faybelle · 22/12/2014 11:13

will be watching festive movies with family

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 22/12/2014 11:17

The dc mainly use Netflix, I intitally set it up as my 17yr old wouldn't give my 12 yr old the password to his account!

The 12yr old and 8yr old mainly use it on the ipad and watch movies. The boys watch I through the ps3 in their bedroom. If we want to watch a movie downstairs we either bring the ps4 down or use a connector for the ipad. After Christmas we will have the ps3 downstairs as the boys are getting a ps4 for Christmas, so hopefully will utilise my account a lot more then.

teenagersmum56 · 22/12/2014 11:19

My children love Netflix as I have various aged children and a grandchild, so it would've difficult to keep them all in one room, but with this my teenager is on his tablet with headphones and my 7 year old and grandson who is 3 love all the kids films especially when we get popcorn and sweetsetc.. Make a cinema in our own house

Petallic · 22/12/2014 11:20

I've just signed up to Netflix, my DC are just old enough to start to understand about Christmas and Father Christmas so we've been watching Christmassy films to help build the excitement! And once I signed up I found a tonne of box sets I now want to watch! I love House and it's great being able to watch as and when it suits and being able to binge watch

Moogdroog · 22/12/2014 11:20

We're going to watch Christmas movies galore and once the kids are in bed I intend to totally binge on a box set or two to make the most of the cosy evenings and DHS time off work. Happy Netflix times! Grin

PaulaAtMummyKnowsBest · 22/12/2014 11:24

We will use our account to watch some films together as a family. We stopped our sky subscription as we were fed up with all of the repeats. The good thing about Netflix is that you watch exactly what you want, when you want to and where you want to!
I might watch a few box sets once the children are all in bed too

HappyHippyChick · 22/12/2014 11:24

We are currently watching random kids stuff on our TiVo box with sick kids. I have also been watching a series in the evening while wrapping presents (Afterlife, it was brill, can't believe I missed it first time round).

I think we will probably find a suitable family film to snuggle down with on Christmas Eve. Love Netflix!
