With Christmas almost here, we’d like to you to share how you’ll be using Netflix with your family over the festive season.

Will you put a film on while you are wrapping your presents? Maybe you’ll be using Netflix to help the kids settle down before bed on Christmas Eve - after all the excitement over the arrival of Santa! Or perhaps you’ll choose a family favourite that everyone can watch together after Christmas dinner?

We’d also love to know what devices your family uses to watch Netflix. Do your kids tend to watch the iPad? Perhaps you and DP snuggle in bed watching on your laptop? Or maybe you use your smart TV when everyone is together as family. Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

Netflix has a selection of family titles, including hit movies like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Brave and Monsters Inc, as well as festive films like Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas, Scrooged and The Search for Santa Paws.

Everyone who comments below about how they think they will use Netflix over the holidays will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win an iPad mini and a 6 month subscription to Netflix.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

I'll be watching on my iPhone whilst I feed the baby at night. The kids will be watching on the TV whilst they run round and round on chocolate and Santa fuelled highs!

muddledsheep · 22/12/2014 11:25

If I can pin everyone down at the same time, we would watch Christmas films on the tv downstairs or maybe I'd sneak off to bed early and watch a film my DH isn't interested in on the iPad!

jenhad84 · 22/12/2014 11:26

At 8 months pregnant, I will be glued to netflix this Christmas! I plan on spending Christmas in my pj's in front of the fire, watching all the Christmas films!

Lobelia · 22/12/2014 11:29

We have a chromecast and only one TV in the lounge. We can use android phone, iPad, and windows computer to cast Netflix to the TV which we do just about every day. My 5 year old son is in love with Dinosaur Train and Wild Kratts and those are watched most days! As for DH and myself, we love to snuggle up with Firefly or a sneaky film once our son is asleep! We love netflix! It also gets used frequently on long train rides on the iPad. (just need a chromecast app from my windows phone!) I think we will continue as usual over the holidays, perhaps look for more holiday themed shows. We've watched Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas and loved it. Hoping for more quality holiday themed shows!

DS has special needs so we use Netflicks so he can relax and watch his favourite films and programmes and I can get some wrapping done. Then when he's in bed DH and I watch a box set. Christmas couldn't be more cosy here!

lilythemonkey · 22/12/2014 11:31

Urgh netflix not netflicks!

marmitebear · 22/12/2014 11:31

We've just got Netflix as we've just bought Apple TV. So far we've mainly been watching some kids TV series that we've not seen before, Just Add Water has become a favourite. We've watched on an interactive tv, on iPad and iPhone. Really impressed with Netflix so far!

CalifornianMum · 22/12/2014 11:35

Sometimes my daughter watches movies/shows on Netflix on the ipad, in the mornings when we need a lie-in. Once a week we watch a family movie on netflix, and I expect we will be watching lots of films over Christmas!

deej71 · 22/12/2014 11:40

By catching up on all my tv shows while I was in Hospital

avelte · 22/12/2014 11:47

I got Netflix via Virgin new deal I signed up ,I used before but due to funds I had to disconnect it....is fabulous ,everyone can watch on their tablet,pc,tv on living room, lot to watch for all ages...I love comedy myself so hoping to have some fab time during the Christmas holiday...Merry Christmas everyone :)

sararob140 · 22/12/2014 11:47

I won't be using Netflix as I don't have a free trial, does anyone have a free trial I could use, Please? ??????

DADDIEBEAR · 22/12/2014 11:51

with so many things we can watch we are able to find plenty of things that we can see together and when we want some time to ourselves the children can go off and watch their programs while the adults can see what they like :-)

woolymum · 22/12/2014 11:53

I will be having a blissful netflix free christmas. I joyously cancelled the subscription when I discovered that the content was so limited that I could catch up with anything I wanted to within the 1 month free trial. And don't get me started on the way that you find titles to watch - suffice it to say that it can be a tedious scrolling process. I found it unbearable in the kids section - I wanted to find a film or a particular genre style, but oh no, I have to look at a screen with giant images of all the programmes that I utterly detest and endure inane shouty glarey crap at 6am because oh christ, the kids have glimpsed some nightmare character and won't be dissuaded otherwise. I cancelled mainly to avoid this to be honest.
Waste of money.
Guess that's my entry to the free draw scrapped then eh?

changeznameza · 22/12/2014 11:53

The kids are watching Brave right now snuggled under a cosy throw - perfect relaxing school holiday times.
We'll have a family movie night - we're thinking of Cars 2, with popcorn of course.
And I'm a single mum so after they're tucked up in bed I relax with a cuppa and a movie. Last night it was Stuck In Love, which I recommend for some gently intelligent romcom escapism.
We don't have a TV or DVD player so Netflix on our living room desktop Mac is a lifesaver. Can't imagine life without it!

sputniklisa · 22/12/2014 11:54

We will be watching all the classics and using Christmas to hit the series that are new we watched the robert do Niro film the family two days ago was absolutely fab but Lillehammer and Marco polo are calling along with all the old classicsgod love netflix

xxmissbrightsidexx · 22/12/2014 11:57

We'll watch a bit of everything on it, we love Netflix & have it on the Xbox one! Kids love it my 2yr old is obsessed with watching Teletubbies on it lol x

helcrai · 22/12/2014 11:58

I will be spending Christmas with my family at my parent's home. There are so many of us we all usually disagree on what to watch so I will retreat to the kitchen to watch Orange is the new black while peeling spuds with my mum- hope she isn't too shocked!! It will come in very useful for my kids when they are wanting to stay up late but the 'normal' tv isn't suitable. I'll tuck them up in bed to watch a Christmassy kids film on their new tablets so no squabbles there.

elfinmyst · 22/12/2014 12:00

The kids use their computers or xbox and have a cable connecting that to the TV screen. They both have teen accounts. I won't get to use it much as we only have two screens at once. They will watch films and some series.

Alidoll · 22/12/2014 12:04

Having just bought some kids films on DVD, would be good having films on demand to satisfy daughter when its cold and wet (in Scotland that's most days..even in the summer!). I could let her have the iPad and know she would be quiet and entertained for an hour or so which would allow me to tidy up a bit.

MrsJarmitage · 22/12/2014 12:05

We will be using Netflix to get away from our inlaw's!

We're currently living with them so love to sneak up to our room once DS has gone to bed and catch up on a bit of TV - bliss :)

L1amsMum · 22/12/2014 12:05

I am going to use Netflix this Xmas..extensively :) . As the bump grows ( we're going towards week 31) falling asleep or even getting a bit of a lie in only happens with Netflix in sight - preferably with Transformers or Iron Man, and more recently with Christmas themed movies. That's gonna ensure peace and a calm bump for the holidays , thank you Netflix :)

Onethirdamidwife · 22/12/2014 12:05

We've had Netflix for about 3 years and find it's brilliant value!! My ds(15) watches the inbetweeners on his iPhone and laptop, my dd(8) watches h2o on her iPod and Xbox, dd(2) watches films like bugs life on the TiVo. Hubbie watches game of thrones on his iPad an I've just finished person of interest season 2 on my iPad!!

We will be watching Christmas films on Netflix when there's nothing on regular tv. I'm looking for a new series to watch - I've done OITNB so might try house of cards or the good wife.

Marabou · 22/12/2014 12:07

We use Netflix on the laptop and smart tv. My son will be watching his Mickey Mouse Christmas movie (Twice Upon a Christmas) for the umpteenth time.

baggiesbabe69 · 22/12/2014 12:09

We've got a free 6 month Netflix through our virgin package & have been waiting till Christmas before activating it so we can watch films for days on end. We'll watch it on main TV as the screen is better than on tablets.

millymollymany · 22/12/2014 12:18

Definitely watching Netflix, all cwtched up on the sofa and with a 'bean' in my belly, crying my eyes out watching RomComs. Merry Christmas to all the mummies out there new, old or expecting x
