We've been asked by Ready brek to find out about MNers' best porridge based recipes and healthy breakfast creations

Ready brek says "Coinciding with the launch of Ready brek's 'easy sachets' collection, we'd love to hear about how MNers customise their porridge. In tasty Original and delicious Chocolate and Gingerbread flavours, and made only from finely milled oats, vitamins and minerals, this hot oat cereal delivers all the benefits of an adult porridge, but without the lumps. Easy to make in the microwave or with hot milk this kids' porridge gives your children a tasty warming start to the day. But the Ready brek oats can be used for so much more than just porridge. One look at the Ready brek and Weetabix website shows just how versatile these oats can be. From Ready brek breakfast muffins, to 'ginger-brek men', there's hundreds of ways you can make your cereal go further."

So, how do you customise your porridge or Ready brek? Maybe you add some bananas? Or do you prefer to add blueberries or raspberries? Perhaps honey is your usual addition? Whatever you add to your porridge, Ready brek would love to hear about how you keep breakfast time fun and healthy.

If you don't usually have porridge for breakfast, do you have any porridge based recipes? Perhaps you like to add porridge oats when you're baking cookies? Or maybe you'd rather use your porridge oats for flapjacks? Let Ready brek know what your favourite porridge based recipes are.

Every MNer who posts on this thread will go into a prize draw to win £250 from Ready brek and Weetabix.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Milk, butter and a sprinkling of sugar

suseb99 · 05/09/2014 22:08

Grated apple, Cinnamon & Raisins or mixed berries, the frozen mixed berries are great for this! chopped banana & Cinnamon, sometimes I add a few drops of food colouring because eating blue or green porridge is hilarious when you are 6yrs old !

MegBusset · 05/09/2014 22:12

I have porridge most days only Quaker Oats though, sorry Ready Brek

I make it with soya milk, sprinkle cinnamon on top then leave it for a couple of mins to get a lovely cinnamon-infused skin on top :)

DS2 loves Ready Brek with blueberries, honey or a dollop of jam.

Wolfcub · 05/09/2014 22:12

Muscavado sugar and cream on mine, maple syrup and cream on ds's

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 05/09/2014 22:13

Dates, put them into the porridge a few minutes before you eat and they go all gooey and deliciously melty

MimsyBorogroves · 05/09/2014 22:25

Golden syrup. Always golden syrup.

ShatnersBassoon · 05/09/2014 22:28

Brown sugar or golden syrup for me.

mawbroon · 05/09/2014 22:33

Sliced banana and cream

TsukuruTazaki · 05/09/2014 22:34

Honey, sometimes put some raisins or chopped nuts in

BornToFolk · 05/09/2014 22:36

Ah, DS loved Readybrek when he was a baby. We both really enjoy a bowl of proper porridge for breakfast now. Fresh or frozen berries make a lovely topping, as does stewed fruit. I make up little pots of stewed apple with raisins and cinnamon and freeze them. Take a pot out of the freezer the night before and it's defrosted by morning but still cold, so it cools the porridge down nicely. Blackberry and apple is also lush on porridge.

BreconBeBuggered · 05/09/2014 22:36

Lots of raspberries in the garden just now, so I like to add a handful of those in a home made raspberry sauce.

Dolallytats · 05/09/2014 22:59

I make it half milk, half water. I add sugar, golden syrup, banana, blueberries, sultanas or cinnamon.

Dontbugmemalone · 05/09/2014 23:01

I love porridge with raisins and blueberries, it's a quick, cheap and healthy meal.

DS1 won't touch porridge but loves flapjacks.
DS2 will only eat porridge (only ready brek) and a little bit of honey.

MrsMargoLeadbetter · 05/09/2014 23:03

I add frozen blueberries to the oats and milk before I cook in the microwave. It is yummy.

rydley · 05/09/2014 23:40

i use canderal in my readybreak because i have high suger levels, sometimes i have it hot sometimes cold . i also use the oats for flapjacks for my kids.

Keepcalmanddrinkwine · 06/09/2014 00:11

Ooh, Gingerbread sounds nice.

I like dried fruit on my porridge, DH likes cream and sugar and the DDs like Nutella (with a ratio of about 5:1, the 5 being chocolate spread).

I've been using oats to make a crumble topping for apple and blackberry crumbles recently.

BlahBlahYeahYeah · 06/09/2014 00:31

We add manuka honey , mostly in the winter, to ward off the nasty colds and bugs (it works!)

ThatBloodyWoman · 06/09/2014 00:33

Honey, sometimes raisins, sometimes cinnamon.
I use oat milk.

crochetcircle · 06/09/2014 00:34

Raisins, sunflower seeds and Greek yoghurt for me, dh and our two dad's on porridge every morning. The girls sometimes have honey too.

BrieAndChilli · 06/09/2014 00:40

We have blueberries and honey, golden syrup, maple syrup, apple purée, raisins and sugar, and chocolate chips.

MrsCakesPrecognition · 06/09/2014 01:23

Honey and raspberries are a good combination and make me feel virtuous.
But I was brought up that proper porridge has brown sugar and butter on it, which is delicious but Not Healthy, so I now resent all other porridge for not being quite nice enough to compete.

VestaCurry · 06/09/2014 01:28

A drizzle of golden syrup plus some hazelnuts

recipequeen · 06/09/2014 08:55

I add chia seeds, honey and chopped walnuts. delicious.

is1 · 06/09/2014 13:38

Raisins - stir them in and leave for a while so they get really plump and luscious.

laundryelf · 06/09/2014 13:40

Jaffa cake placed upside down so melts, and a small measure of good malt whisky, on special days only!
