We've been asked by Ready brek to find out about MNers' best porridge based recipes and healthy breakfast creations

Ready brek says "Coinciding with the launch of Ready brek's 'easy sachets' collection, we'd love to hear about how MNers customise their porridge. In tasty Original and delicious Chocolate and Gingerbread flavours, and made only from finely milled oats, vitamins and minerals, this hot oat cereal delivers all the benefits of an adult porridge, but without the lumps. Easy to make in the microwave or with hot milk this kids' porridge gives your children a tasty warming start to the day. But the Ready brek oats can be used for so much more than just porridge. One look at the Ready brek and Weetabix website shows just how versatile these oats can be. From Ready brek breakfast muffins, to 'ginger-brek men', there's hundreds of ways you can make your cereal go further."

So, how do you customise your porridge or Ready brek? Maybe you add some bananas? Or do you prefer to add blueberries or raspberries? Perhaps honey is your usual addition? Whatever you add to your porridge, Ready brek would love to hear about how you keep breakfast time fun and healthy.

If you don't usually have porridge for breakfast, do you have any porridge based recipes? Perhaps you like to add porridge oats when you're baking cookies? Or maybe you'd rather use your porridge oats for flapjacks? Let Ready brek know what your favourite porridge based recipes are.

Every MNer who posts on this thread will go into a prize draw to win £250 from Ready brek and Weetabix.

Thanks,
MNHQ

I add grated apple to mine, brown sugar for a treat.

I mix porridge oats with mashed ripe bananas and bake to make cookies.

Ooooh we are porridge fiends in this house.

  • nuts and honey
  • banana and Nutella
  • peanut butter and honey
  • very very dark chocolate, grated
  • raisins and blob of yoghurt with honey

Always make it with milk. It's heavenly!!!

Flingmoo · 23/09/2014 23:18

Maple syrup and cinnamon. Lots of the syrup. Used to make it with just milk but one day I was running low so used half water and half milk... Didn't notice a taste difference so have used half-half ever since. Can't bring myself to try water-only though!!

OldCatLady · 24/09/2014 12:50

I have my readybrek cold (honestly, it's good!) with a little sprinkling of sugar. If I'm feeling a bit tired, sometimes I add a little instant coffee to it to wake me up!

WomanScorned · 24/09/2014 13:10

Coconut milk, mashed banana and raisins. I would like to vary it, but this is what my 4y old wants for breakfast every day, even at the height of summer :/

woodsies1975 · 24/09/2014 13:57

I buy bags of frozen red berries and add a few tablespoons to my Ready Brek. That and some cinnamon sets me up for the day!

Tadla · 24/09/2014 14:56

a couple of chocolate buttons.

grated apple, tea spoon of brown sugar and a pinch of cinnamon.

Selinemaratima · 24/09/2014 15:57

My darlings both have porridge for breakfast, they (4&2) both like raisins and honey, for my hubby I add ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and a little all spice - loves it! I also once made a really old cake called a Yorkshire Parkin for a vintage tea party which uses oats in place of flour, along with molasses & ginger- really wholesome comfort! BrewCake

Honey, jam or golden syrup. To be honest in the mornings we usually need quick things. The dds love porridge though and I add fruit, blueberries, raspberries etc if we have time.

Letitsnow9 · 28/09/2014 07:00

Agar nectar

Kahlua4me · 28/09/2014 07:15

I usually just add honey. Dh and ds like it with sugar and sometimes dried fruit. After reading other responses on here ds now wants it with nutella!

It is also good when mixed with a vanilla Mullerlight the night before.

Sorry to sound churlish at not winning lol but on looking for MyCatLovesMeSometimes to see what tip they had written I couldn't find it so I have trawled through this whole thread again thoroughly and still can't find a poster with that name who has posted a comment on this thread. Am I being thick or can you enlighten me AngelieMumsnet? Grin

BiggerYellowTaxi · 30/09/2014 19:47

Anne your post made me look too and I can't find a post by MyCatLovesMeSometimes either Confused

MyCatLovesMeSometimes · 30/09/2014 21:08

That's outed the name change! I did comment but under an old name. DH and I like comb honey and DD likes golden syrup.

MyCatLovesMeSometimes · 30/09/2014 21:18

Very excited to have won though! I never win competitions.

Starlingsintheslipstream · 30/09/2014 21:49

A handful of frozen mixed berries (either whilst cooking or bottom of the bowl to cool it down if we're in a rush!) or a handful of mixed nuts and seeds. I love a swirl of golden syrup and a pinch of salt too!
