We've been asked by Ready brek to find out about MNers' best porridge based recipes and healthy breakfast creations

Ready brek says "Coinciding with the launch of Ready brek's 'easy sachets' collection, we'd love to hear about how MNers customise their porridge. In tasty Original and delicious Chocolate and Gingerbread flavours, and made only from finely milled oats, vitamins and minerals, this hot oat cereal delivers all the benefits of an adult porridge, but without the lumps. Easy to make in the microwave or with hot milk this kids' porridge gives your children a tasty warming start to the day. But the Ready brek oats can be used for so much more than just porridge. One look at the Ready brek and Weetabix website shows just how versatile these oats can be. From Ready brek breakfast muffins, to 'ginger-brek men', there's hundreds of ways you can make your cereal go further."

So, how do you customise your porridge or Ready brek? Maybe you add some bananas? Or do you prefer to add blueberries or raspberries? Perhaps honey is your usual addition? Whatever you add to your porridge, Ready brek would love to hear about how you keep breakfast time fun and healthy.

If you don't usually have porridge for breakfast, do you have any porridge based recipes? Perhaps you like to add porridge oats when you're baking cookies? Or maybe you'd rather use your porridge oats for flapjacks? Let Ready brek know what your favourite porridge based recipes are.

Every MNer who posts on this thread will go into a prize draw to win £250 from Ready brek and Weetabix.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Some jam yum yum!

I use oats a lot. I use it to thicken things like spaghetti Bolognese, I make flapjacks with whatever fruit is in season - the cake tin is full of apple flapjacks at the moment - I make crumble toppings with oats instead of flour, I use maple syrup on my porridge. I make my own version of muesli for my husband, with chopped dates, apricots, sultanas, raisins, prunes and figs. If I make an open fruit tart and it looks a bit runny, I often sprinkle oats on the top for a crunchy finish, mixed with brown sugar. I also add it to home-made stuffing mixes along with the breadcrumbs. I often try out recipes to see if I can substitute some of the flour with oats, it feels healthier and counteracts the 'side effects' of the junk foods my OH likes...

My son likes me to put a teaspoon with Nutella on in the bottom of the bowl before I pour in the porridge. When I give it him he complains that I forgot to put the Nutella in then I tell him to stir the porridge and the Nutella magically appears, and he pretends to be surprised. Every. Morning.

TLAF · 18/09/2014 21:26

tab1967 · 18/09/2014 21:37

I either add brown sugar or golden syrup, depending on what I have in.

knitnut24 · 18/09/2014 21:55

embabes7 · 18/09/2014 22:11

Maple syrup - not the most healthy but yum none the less!

Gill81uk · 18/09/2014 22:16

I add raisins and a sprinkle of cinnamon. I like to keep it simple and healthy.

FUZZ62 · 18/09/2014 22:23

Having 3 young boys the addition to porridge could be one of many!! We have added blueberries, strawberries etc but usually we just add a petit filout yoghurt as the porridge is usually hot when it comes out and this just cools it down nicely.

cathyov · 18/09/2014 22:24

Just a little sweetner - it's perfect as it is :)

fairyprincess79 · 18/09/2014 22:31

Any kind of fruit. Banana's are a favourite, or berries. We've got lots in the freezer at the moment having been out berry picking!

mamof3boys · 18/09/2014 22:40

Just cinnamon on mine

GatoradeMeBitch · 18/09/2014 22:55

Just honey. (I would prefer golden syrup or raspberry jam to be honest but I'm trying to be healthier!)

grannybiker · 18/09/2014 22:59

bit boring, but I like mine simple with a spot of gold top milk & golden syrup!

LEE88 · 18/09/2014 23:00
