We've been asked by Ready brek to find out about MNers' best porridge based recipes and healthy breakfast creations

Ready brek says "Coinciding with the launch of Ready brek's 'easy sachets' collection, we'd love to hear about how MNers customise their porridge. In tasty Original and delicious Chocolate and Gingerbread flavours, and made only from finely milled oats, vitamins and minerals, this hot oat cereal delivers all the benefits of an adult porridge, but without the lumps. Easy to make in the microwave or with hot milk this kids' porridge gives your children a tasty warming start to the day. But the Ready brek oats can be used for so much more than just porridge. One look at the Ready brek and Weetabix website shows just how versatile these oats can be. From Ready brek breakfast muffins, to 'ginger-brek men', there's hundreds of ways you can make your cereal go further."

So, how do you customise your porridge or Ready brek? Maybe you add some bananas? Or do you prefer to add blueberries or raspberries? Perhaps honey is your usual addition? Whatever you add to your porridge, Ready brek would love to hear about how you keep breakfast time fun and healthy.

If you don't usually have porridge for breakfast, do you have any porridge based recipes? Perhaps you like to add porridge oats when you're baking cookies? Or maybe you'd rather use your porridge oats for flapjacks? Let Ready brek know what your favourite porridge based recipes are.

Every MNer who posts on this thread will go into a prize draw to win £250 from Ready brek and Weetabix.

Thanks,
MNHQ

DS's favour Nutella

I'm a banana and brown sugar kind of girl.

chelington · 18/09/2014 23:13

cream and brown sugar

I love adding fresh berries to porridge and ready brek. If out of season then frozen berries work well as they defrost quickly with the heat. A really quick energy boost is honey and sliced banana added to it. The kids love maple syrup on honey on ready brek.

ILoveMyCaravan · 18/09/2014 23:35

I add honey to my porridge. Also use porridge oats in fruit crumbles.

ellie17 · 18/09/2014 23:56

all bran and a drizzle of cream if I'm being unhealthy!

Sweetener and loads of cinnamon. Occasionally I put in some berries straight out of the freezer.

ToysRLuv · 19/09/2014 05:36

Oh, and protein powder Blush

AnimalAddict · 19/09/2014 05:47

I usually add blueberries, raspberries, sugar and chocolate chips to mine, not all at the same time though! :) x

Ia dd a range of things to my porridge depending on the month, the time of day and also what sort of mood i'm in! For the mornings I feel I want something sweet I will add a teaspoon of Nutella into the centre and swirl in around to make a lovely pattern! The children love this too! For healthier days I will add sliced banana, strawberries & raspberries and sometimes a little bit of honey. But nothing can beat my simple childhood favourite of sprinkled sugar until it sets into the top so you get a sweet indulgent crunch!

sydroo · 19/09/2014 07:53

Raspberries and honey

SachaF · 19/09/2014 08:08

I add mixed dried fruit to my oats and soak overnight, in coconut milk for me and in soya milk for ds. For a real treat occassionally I soak in fruit juice or fruit juice and water - very sweet!
We eat it cold from the fridge in the morning - this way ds can sort out his own breakfast in the morning as he wakes up a bit before me and I do not want to be cooking porridge first thing! Now if only I could get dd to eat it too - she's an Oatibix (and Rice Krispies) girl!

Mandahul · 19/09/2014 08:13

Usually just a little sprinkle of sugar but on occasions banana and honey.

loug78 · 19/09/2014 08:56

I'm not very adventurous....a sprinkle of sugar is all I add!

Jenerate · 19/09/2014 09:11

Golden syrup, yummy.

ha2el · 19/09/2014 09:39

I add chopped dates when the porridge is cooking, and then top it with toasted seeds and almonds, and finish with a spoonful of creamy Greek yoghurt.

AutumnElla · 19/09/2014 10:31

Always Jam, ever since I was a baby. X

ryesmummy12 · 19/09/2014 11:05
