With summer in full swing, Netflix have asked us to find out how MNers plan to fit a Netflix Moment into summer family plans this year.

Netflix have a dedicated section for kids and family entertainment, including TV shows like Horrid Henry, iCarly and Spongebob Squarepants and movies such as Tangled, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Lilo & Stitch. Learn more at the Netflix Kids section. Netflix is available anywhere in the UK with Wi-Fi, on numerous devices with Wi-Fi, including mobiles, tablets, TVs and games consoles.

You can see how other MNers are using Netflix with their families this summer here.

So, how do you think you’ll be using Netflix over the summer holidays to entertain your family and enjoy time together? Are your DCs winding down by watching their favourite show after a big day out? Are the grandparents and kids bonding over a shared love for Toy Story 3? Is Netflix providing some much-needed respite on a rainy day? What else has been keeping your children happy in the holidays? Whatever it is, Netflix would love to hear about it.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

We rainy day netflix with SIL & BIL. Anything Disney keeps the kids happy and the adults enjoy it too.

Lovewhereilive · 05/08/2014 10:38

My kids use it for films mainly, I have watched the odd film and would watch more but I never have time!

Maiyakat · 05/08/2014 13:21

DD is a bit young to sit through a film, so kids shows that are around 10 minutes long are great. This morning she was watching Peppa Pig in Gaelic!

SeattleGraceMercyDeath · 05/08/2014 16:55

DS will mainly be watching Horrid Henry and Phineas and Ferb, whilst DH and I indulge in our current obsession that is prison break. DD is currently watching something called Heartland, something or other about horses. We might try and get the odd family film watched as well but the film selection isn't great.

Marvel Lego Superheroes Maximum Overload comes in very handy for coaxing the Todd

OrangeMochaFrappucino · 05/08/2014 16:59

Ahem. For coaxing the toddler indoors that is!

SeattleGraceMercyDeath · 05/08/2014 16:59

Oh another one, DS is mad for Ninjago!

Moid1 · 05/08/2014 17:58

Love Netflix, stream it to our computer in our bedrrom. So far Breaking Bad (fabby), Orange is the New Black. Ended up watching House of Cards with my 11 year old, able to fast forward through the sex scenes (luckily not to many). Currently watching Prison Break, undecided so far.

GetKnitted · 05/08/2014 20:00

we swap between the major streaming services, currently on an amazon kick sorry, but Netflix is probably the best for kids stuff Grin

eachpeachbarebum · 05/08/2014 23:41

Could someone tell me (a technophobe dinosaur) how it works please?
my deal with sky is nearly up and I'm looking for cheaper options. It sounds like netflix may cover the kids channels and on demand kids box sets that we currently use but I can't gauge price.
The only information I can get from their website is from £5.99 a month. It's the word from that makes me sceptical!! do you pay for different packages/is it pay per view/can you download stuff to re watch?

Fizzyplonk · 05/08/2014 23:55

We love Netflix

When relaxing alone DS like to watch shows we wouldn't otherwise get to see-Dora,Diego, Max and Ruby and they love Caillou.

We miss Wonder Pets though.

We also search through to watch films- we enjoyed 'up' recently with popcorn and kid's Pimms (lemonade with fruit)

woodchuck · 06/08/2014 09:15

Netflix has allowed me to rediscover some of my favourites from years gone by eith the DC. Last night we watched Toys (although DD was angling for the Princess Diaries) and we recently watched Drop Dead Fred. Our 'thing' during the summer hols is to microwave a big bowl of popcorn (lightly salted, 59p from Sainsburys) and make our own cheapie cinema night. (And then when the kids go to bed I can watch the gorgeous Ed Westwick on Gossip Girl!)

momofmonster · 06/08/2014 12:24

We do love netflix!!

I usually end up starting a new programme then having a mega marathon (watched all 2 seasons of orange is the new black in 1 week).

I originally signed up for my nan - she spends a lot of time at home and occasionally looks after ds during school holidays. she loves watching all the old films and the romance films as well as some of the tv programmes.

Then when she has ds he watches programmes on it more then films. His favourite recently has been all the old xmen programmes - the ones i watched as a kid!!

I do think my nan loves it more than any of us though - i once forgot to change my bank details and missed a payment and that same day my nan called up worried that she couldn't watch her programmes!!!

Julestar · 06/08/2014 19:40

I plan to get Netflix for my IPad - the children love using the IPad (although I limit it!), and I think Netflix is a good way for us to enjoy watching movies etc together, especially when we are travelling around so much over the summer.

Chesterell · 06/08/2014 20:12

My 4 year old son watches sonic every evening on Netflix before bed. We have let him watch a couple of films on these rainy summer holiday days too! He also really enjoys go Diego go. My OH and I enjoyed orange is the new black, now really need a new series.

amazinggrace2001 · 06/08/2014 21:22

We are working our way through Netflix at the moment. I am hooked on Modern Family and Portlandia, my daughter loves Gossip Girl and my son is addicted to Top Gear!

trolleycoin · 07/08/2014 00:32

I have recently introduced my Mum to Netflix as there are great kids programmes and films on there, that I know she'd love to watch with my son (he's nearly 3).

On the rainy days we've had of late, both Mum and DS were really enjoying "Go Diego Go". It was lovely to see them joining in and cheering when he cleaned up the beach for the turtles.

I've now shown her how to add films/programmes to "my list", so there are a few Thomas the Tank and Disney e.g. Winnie the Pooh in there already.

Plus at the end of a stressful week, DH and I snuggle up and watch a comedy. Favourites so far this summer have been "What to expect when you're expecting" "The Royal Tennenbaums" and "Meet the Fockers"

My little treat on Netflix is Mythbusters!

EskSmith · 07/08/2014 00:48

We have had netflix for a while but getting a chromecast so we can stream it to the tv has revolutionised how we (especially the DC) use it. DD2 is loving UmiZoomi & DD1 has been watching Winx & Barbie.
DH & I really enjoyed the Village at the end of the world last night & this evening DH has watched a bike documentary followed by a Surfing one.

I've a long list of things I want to watch but the DD's are hogging my normal TV time (ironing/computer admin etc whilst they are at school)

pixiepoopoo · 07/08/2014 01:13

Got Netflix for summer hols as dd into Orange is the new Black . Got into it from trip to US to see her brother. Wall to wall Netflix over there

Sadly no dragons or vikings for me. I guess i'll give Sons of Anarchy a go.

sunoffabeach · 07/08/2014 05:12

Winnie the Pooh, Winnie the Pooh!

janeyf1 · 07/08/2014 06:39

Netflix is great for us because we watch a family film after a day out or playing in the garden, then it is 'me' time and settle down to some great US drama like Scandal.

suewho · 07/08/2014 06:39

Netflix is a great resource for rainy days and offers a good choice for all ages

ThemisA · 07/08/2014 06:46

We try to choose something we can all enjoy and tend to save it for a rainy afternoon. We turn it into a bit of an event and plan it throughout the morning including using our popcorn maker. We snuggle on the sofa with blankets, dog and favourite cuddly toys

maryandbuzz1 · 07/08/2014 06:47

We all love the Beethoven movies. We'll wait for a day when all it does is rain and everyone settles down with chocolate and watches.

pusinky · 07/08/2014 06:50

My kids like to watch Smurfs, netflix is great on long car trips to keep them entertained.
