With summer in full swing, Netflix have asked us to find out how MNers plan to fit a Netflix Moment into summer family plans this year.

Netflix have a dedicated section for kids and family entertainment, including TV shows like Horrid Henry, iCarly and Spongebob Squarepants and movies such as Tangled, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Lilo & Stitch. Learn more at the Netflix Kids section. Netflix is available anywhere in the UK with Wi-Fi, on numerous devices with Wi-Fi, including mobiles, tablets, TVs and games consoles.

You can see how other MNers are using Netflix with their families this summer here.

So, how do you think you’ll be using Netflix over the summer holidays to entertain your family and enjoy time together? Are your DCs winding down by watching their favourite show after a big day out? Are the grandparents and kids bonding over a shared love for Toy Story 3? Is Netflix providing some much-needed respite on a rainy day? What else has been keeping your children happy in the holidays? Whatever it is, Netflix would love to hear about it.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

i'm ploughing through the second series of hemlock grove and my son has been watching all sorts - there seems to be a lot of choice for kids on there. must get round to setting up two users on it so i don't have to plough through kiddie recommendations and he doesn't have to beware my more gruesome viewing.

AliceInGallifrey · 02/08/2014 17:28

Dd is obsessed with ghost busters at the minute ( and red dwarf but that's a whole other thread!)

The main reason we have netflix tho is to watch grown up series together once the kids are in bed.

Bottle of wine, popcorn and tv to wind down and spend time together whilst our kids sleep Wink

HopefulHamster · 02/08/2014 18:20

Whenever we have a hectic day, we find watching something together helps my son (aged 4) wind down. He won't nap and otherwise can get overexcited and overtired. Mind you we often do the same on a rainy day or on a sick day :D

We've watched loads of things but he's just discovered Ninjago and my DH has 'researched' some episodes of Batman Brave and the Bold that he can watch too. Movies are great too - Tangled is still a favourite and I like it as well :)

HopefulHamster · 02/08/2014 18:57

Ah just realised Batman isn't on it any more, well I'm sure it was for a bit! But there's still loads of kids TV to choose from :)

Personally I buy Netflix for myself and DH though - OITNB was ace!

Netflix/DVDs etc are the only tv we watch and we love to be able to watch a whole series over a few days and make it a real 'marathon' session. DS and I loved 'modern family'and 'dr who', and he has also been loving 'Avator-the last air bender' when watching on his own. He and I also love snuggling up with some of the Classic Disney movies-last night was Tarzan! Great viewing and value for money.

Miathecat · 02/08/2014 19:00

My oldest ds is watching all our recommendations from childhood, bill and ted, ghostbusters to name a few. Hubbie and I have really enjoyed Netflix and never watch anything but now. Have finished dexter and house of cards and have been awaiting the new killing which is available from yesterday. A request though for rather second season of the bridge, when isit coming Netflix?

Nonotthatagain · 02/08/2014 19:25

My 3 DDs love netflix and watch all sorts from Cake Boss, lots of films to series such as Breaking bad, Walking Dead & currently Survivors. Once upon a time is another favourite. I can say that not a day goes by without Netflix being watched.

Well my eldest two have decided to watch the first season of The Walking Dead. DD is too young for that so they have to be extra nice so she stays out of the living room when it's on. OTOH she's over the moon that every single episode of Goosebumps is on there - she's read the books and was introduced to the (very old!) TV show by her favourite TA at school so is watching those on the laptop when she's winding down in the evening.

blueberrypudding · 02/08/2014 23:51

My little DD - only four months old - has recently discovered TV and absolutely loves staring at the moving pictures. When my husband's spending a morning with her and I'm getting ready in the shower I always come back to them cuddling in bed watching Pokemon: Indigo League on Netflix. When I laugh at him for his geekiness he always says defensively: "It's for the baby!"

Well, the baby's not the one who can recite all 151 Pokemon from memory. Wink

BrieAndChilli · 03/08/2014 00:55

A very rainy day today meant several films were watched!!
Ds2 age 3 has just learnt to work the magic remote with our smart tv so can now watch endless Thomas the tank engine episodes without pestering me to put the next one on for him!

SunsineAndRainbows · 03/08/2014 01:08

On rainy summer days Netflix has been a savour, indoor picnic, loads of comfy cushions and such a great selection of family films even if DD only wants to watch agent fox or toy story 3 every time!
Well worth the money all year round.

LadyLuck81 · 03/08/2014 08:37

Netflix is essential in our house. The 2 1/2 year old is obsessed with Dora The Explorer and when she's awake at silly o'clock on it goes, via the Apple TV, to keep her occupied while daddy, mummy and the bump snooze away.

The kids movies are great if she needs occupying with something mummy would like to watch too and there's always some Disney there to enjoy.

Then on an evening it's a soak in the bath for mummy with Netflix on the iPad and tone to watch one of her dramas. It's currently season 3 of Luther but there's plenty on there to get through.

Jinsei · 03/08/2014 09:46

We have only just discovered netflix - currently on a free trial and loving it! :)

First thing we watched was Holes, because dd read it earlier in the holiday. Today I'm planning a Bollywood fest....bliss!

GormlessNormTheGardenGnome · 03/08/2014 13:27

I'm enjoying introducing the DDs to programmes I used to watch -so far Garfield and Friends and Inspector Gadget. I've also got them hooked on Dr Who and we've re watched from 9 onwards. It's a real shame that Classic Who isn't available on Netflix any more though. They (and I) really enjoyed watching a season with Jon Pertwee, and I'd like to show them a few others.

BigfootFiles · 03/08/2014 18:41

We're watching Lilo & Stitch with popcorn as part of a sleepover.

milliemoon · 03/08/2014 19:28

Will definitely be using netflix to encourage my little one to have a rest and drink as watching his favourite programmes means he chills out for five to ten mins. He's like a whirlwind the rest of the time!!

BustyDeLaGhetto · 03/08/2014 21:03

I've used Netflix to introduce my four year old DD to the Life and Blue Planet series - she's loved learning about venus fly traps and snakes laying eggs underground. The other day I caught her out in the garden pretending to be David Attenborough. I consider that a PARENTING WIN.

wheretoyougonow · 03/08/2014 22:11

My boys and I are rediscovering The A Team. It's great to watch as a wind down after a day in the sunshine and I love hearing my boys saying the lines I used to copy in my childhood Smile

Moogdroog · 03/08/2014 23:12

We've watched Ghostbusters as a family, with the DCs somewhat bemused about the adult's excitement.

DH and I have been binging on The Bridge every evening - loved it!

Fairylea · 03/08/2014 23:19

My dd will be indulging in all her favourites including vampire diaries, person of interest and warehouse 13...! She loves all of those and now schools out she'll have lots of time to catch up!

trice · 03/08/2014 23:33

We have been enjoying westerns and Zombie movies recently, it gives us a break from all the sports.

sealight123 · 04/08/2014 13:48

My daughter keeps making us watch Adventure Time and Go Diego Go...again and again and again and again!! :P

RubyRR · 04/08/2014 15:25

We have been re watching some favourites including Mall cop - I really need to try a segway for myself! We have also watched The Spy next door which was still funny second time around. I am planning to watch the Lie to me series which I am really looking forward to when everyone else has gone to bed.
