With summer in full swing, Netflix have asked us to find out how MNers plan to fit a Netflix Moment into summer family plans this year.

Netflix have a dedicated section for kids and family entertainment, including TV shows like Horrid Henry, iCarly and Spongebob Squarepants and movies such as Tangled, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Lilo & Stitch. Learn more at the Netflix Kids section. Netflix is available anywhere in the UK with Wi-Fi, on numerous devices with Wi-Fi, including mobiles, tablets, TVs and games consoles.

You can see how other MNers are using Netflix with their families this summer here.

So, how do you think you’ll be using Netflix over the summer holidays to entertain your family and enjoy time together? Are your DCs winding down by watching their favourite show after a big day out? Are the grandparents and kids bonding over a shared love for Toy Story 3? Is Netflix providing some much-needed respite on a rainy day? What else has been keeping your children happy in the holidays? Whatever it is, Netflix would love to hear about it.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

My children love Netflix and its a way of stopping them arguing as they can watch different things on different devices, my youngest daughter (6) is always watching power rangers or horrid henry.

tishist · 31/08/2014 13:08

Have been trying to watch several films a week recently

kel1981 · 31/08/2014 13:20

I've been watching Orange is the new black on a night when the kids are in bed and during the day when the weather hasn't been too goodthe kids have been watching their fave films to occupy them.

funkyfreks · 31/08/2014 13:34

My eldest was using Netflix to watch Hunger Games, Not sure if it's still that she's watching or a similar style series now.
She loves that kind of thing.

Minnie43 · 31/08/2014 16:06

When children have been let down by friends or are at a loose end, Netflix is a great way to brighten their day.

daisyduck123 · 31/08/2014 16:41

We like to limit TV time and Netflix is ideal to watch exactly what we like, when we want to

bubbleybooboo · 31/08/2014 18:09

I have never considered using netflix until recently and then decided against. The comments i have just read have changed my mind on it for certain. I wish i would of read all them before no as theres been so many rainy days in these summer holidays and it would have come in handy for keeping the children happy on our film days (would of meant no more third, fourth or even fifth times of watching the same film)

kimnews · 31/08/2014 20:41

My almost 2 year old loves Toy Story 3 and all the Thomas the Tank Engine shows.

itsmeexxx · 31/08/2014 22:13

We have been using Netflicks everyday. The children always watch a movie after dinner to wind down before bed and we have several times sat all together and watched a film. The lastest was The Princess , secretly I have wanted to watch this more than the children sssshhhh lol it is great family bonding time. During the holidays we have learnt how to plug our ipad into the television and create our own cinema in our front room. Just add popcorn and your all set. :-)

knitnut24 · 31/08/2014 22:49

typical summer weather means you need something to keep the kids amused. Netflix is a great way to do this.

fluffyblueberry · 31/08/2014 23:47

I go to the cinema to see basically every release that is suitable for them to see - we love watching movies. So, yes we'd use netflicks to watch all the latest films! Brilliant!

VickyRsuperstar · 01/09/2014 00:25

We have been out and about too much and we were away on a short UK break seeing family twice so we haven't had Netflix over the Summer. However it will be something I would like for the cold, dark Autumn and Winter evenings as it will really come into its own then.

woolymum · 01/09/2014 10:47

I am very glad to have got rid of netflix. The kids programmes on it I found to be the worst type of irritating brainless nonsense and when it came to films we frequently found that the one we wanted wasn't on (and we weren't looking for obscure art house stuff, I mean big budget stuff for adults or kids).

The frequent "download" issues drove me barmy. No other internet related app had that problem and the hassle of finding another device or rebooting the device I had just to get the last 15 mins of a programme or film was supremely irritating to say the least.

We have got a Now TV box instead. I get a tonne of freebie stuff through it like iplayer, 4OD etc, and we are trialling out the movies package. So far I have got to see ALL the films that Netflix didn't have, and have access to a load of classics that the kids adored.

don't know if I'll keep a monthly subscription but all the freebie channels will keep me going for a while.

So my experience was to AVOID AVOID AVOID so cheers netflix for providing the start of the summer with plenty of disappointment and frustration.

Really, the fact that it's such a closed system should have given me a clue. Oh, and the fact that once you have given them a credit card you CANNOT remove it without phoning the states and getting stuck in a queue. And if you decide the trial wasn't for you? Well make sure that you remove any app because all it takes is literally one click from your bored kid and voila, you have automatically had a direct debit taken from the unremoveable card and a monthly payment plan started. Very seriously not impressed by the lack of financial safeguards that you can put in

wendabell · 01/09/2014 13:12

we took the lapto[p on holiday with us on the norfolk broads boating and watched lots of kids films in the evening to settle down to.

mjmooseface · 01/09/2014 17:34

One of the best moments this summer was dancing to various Bubble Guppies songs with my now 22 month old son! He loves watching it. I try to show him films - but he doesn't stay still enough to watch more than 2 minutes of it with me! - and other TV shows and he's just not as interested in them as he is Bubble Guppies! (I may have started dreaming in Bubble Guppies so Netflix, PLEASE add some more episodes?!? lol)

Husband's hours changed recently, meaning he has like, a 7 hour gap in the day and he's been catching up on his Netflix list on his Xbox One. (He just finished watching Trailer Park Boys which I thought was hilarious, too!)

I like to perch my laptop up on the windowsill and catch up on my shows whilst doing the washing up! I just finished watching ALL of 24. It took me about 5 months to get through it all. And now I'm watching the US version of The Killing, which I love! Being able to watch on my laptop is really handy as I can put it in the kitchen whilst I make dinner, or on the bed whilst I fold laundry etc!

The Netflix app on the TV is really handy as (apart from the Xbox which I am definitely NOT allowed to touch as I break everything I touch) we don't have a DVD/Blu Ray Player so being able to get onto the app from the TV means I can also watch films and TV shows on a bigger screen than my laptop!

I sure wish my boy was a snuggle up and watch a film type but not yet! lol He'd much rather be running around playing!

pmama · 01/09/2014 19:18

Now Numbers Parade is the favourite. We really like that there are always new films/series/etc to watch - everywhere...

muffliato · 01/09/2014 21:01

My 5 year old daughter and me have been watching the Harry Potter movies in anticipation of our trip to the studio tour. I love the books and movies and am beyond thrilled that she us starting to love them too as Harry potter was a massive part of my childhood.

Melonbelle · 02/09/2014 16:19

In the daytime when her little sister is asleep my 3 year old loves to relax on the settee and watch movies like Harry and the Hendersons or Care Bears.

After dark it's breaking bad and orange is the new black for me and the husband, happy days.

Rigbyroo · 03/09/2014 23:15

Thank you Netflix! It's been so handy to bring dd (2) into the bed with me and ds (3 months) and let her watch some films and get lovely and snuggly. We have loved up and toy story 3!

Madelineleo0919 · 04/09/2014 19:59

My daughters 2 1/2 and 11 months love Dora the explorer and the hive. Have put on some films like agent fox, Oliver and Disney musketeers but they aren't interested unless its Dora. When girls in bed and housework all done I relax watching hemlock grove, battlestar Galactica or just re watching transformers.

YourKidsYourRulesHunXxx · 05/09/2014 18:50

I've watched season 5 of Breaking Bad. I was glad because I only had seen 1-4 as I had them on DVD. I love the documentaries on Netflix too (there are loads of seedy, gritty documentaries), plus I am addicted to Orange Is The New Black. I've tried showing my son some kids shows. He likes Barney, but cries at Roly Poly Olie (I blame the lacklustre CGI lol). My OH and I share an account, which is good because we can see what each other have watched and then are like 'Oh was .... any good?' and ''.... was shit, wasn't it?'.

Aethelfleda · 07/09/2014 20:47

We don't have netflix.... But my brother does and is always raving about how much it's saved them
in not having to buy DVDs anymore!

RocksRCool · 10/09/2014 01:32

DH and I are watching Breaking Bad, we are at the end of season two. It's brilliant.

Moogdroog · 13/09/2014 09:51

We've been enjoying a morning movie with the kids - I try to choose add they always end up choosing the same thing otherwise.

One they've gone to bed, DH and I have been enjoying some Scandi drama this summer - loved the Bridge and now working through the Killing.

Princessxo · 13/09/2014 17:11

6 year old loves watching Frozen again and again. I love teasing him about how it's for girls and he doesn't like it but it doesn't stop him from singing the songs!
