Back in December, Mumsnetters got stuck into season 1 of Netflix original series Orange is the New Black, starring Taylor Schilling and Jason Biggs. After a lot of exciting discussion and anticipation on the thread, we can reveal that our next Watch with Mumsnet will be Orange is the New Black season 2, available to watch only on Netflix.

"I’m scared that I’m not myself in here and I’m scared that I am."

Based on the acclaimed memoir of the same name, the series follows Brooklynite Piper Chapman, who is sentenced to 15 months in prison for a crime she committed 10 years ago.

The show tracks Piper’s journey as she adapts to her new life and tries to stay out of trouble. Despite her best efforts to fit in, things don’t quite go according to plan and Piper gets mixed up in all sorts of sticky situations, from her many social blunders with fellow inmates, to run-ins with the corrupt prison guards, as well as an expected encounter from her past.

Along the way we are introduced to the hilarious cast of characters, from one of the most impressive (almost) all-female ensembles in recent years. As Piper struggles to adjust to her new reality, she finds unexpected laughter, tears, conflict and camaraderie amidst an eccentric and outspoken group of inmates.

Now back for a new season, we can’t wait to see what’s in store of the inmates of Litchfield Prison. Here’s what Mumsnetters said about the first series:

• “I loved this! I decided to watch it a couple of weeks ago and ended up watching the whole series in two days, I can't wait for series two.”

• “When my husband told me about this epic series, I was nonplussed. However, when I saw that it was from a seemingly sane and intelligent woman's perspective, my interest definitely changed. My parents brought me up to appreciate strong female (and male) characters and 'Orange is the new Black' has these aplenty.”

• “It is very addictive, I watched them all in about 2 weeks and now I'm gagging for more. Can't wait to see what happens in the next series after that ending”

We’d love to find out what you think of the new series, and what your favourite moments have been so far. Watch and join in the discussion on this thread, and you’ll be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 John Lewis voucher.

You can watch the whole series instantly on Netflix here, and if you subscribe to Netflix now, you get the first month free. Whether you’ve seen the first series or you’re new to Orange is the New Black, we’d love to hear your thoughts. Don’t forget, you can also join the conversation on Twitter now using the hashtag #OITNB

Note on spoilers: We want to hear your thoughts on everything, from plot twists to season finales and more - but if you’re talking about anything that could reveal important plot details then please put Spoiler at the beginning of your post to warn others who may not have seen it.

By the way, you can also get the new OITNB app on iTunes and the Google Store and you could give your photos an OITNB makeover.

Happy Watching,

Just finished season 2. Had meant to try and pace myself but just couldn't resist! Loved the ending.

ArrivedAtPanicStation · 30/06/2014 16:32

I totally binge watched this... as I did the first season Blush

AMAZING, I love OITNB because it's such a new idea, I've not seen anything like it.

I love how we're now learning more about all the characters. I want to learn more about Bennett, I love him.

Miss Rosa is prob my fav in this series. Love her relationship with "shit-pot."

I also want to see what happens with Larry.

UGH so excited for next season already!!!

grassyarsesenor · 30/06/2014 21:54

I've come a bit late to the party, having only just discovered both Netflix and Orange is the New Black. I am watching episodes back to back whilst being laid up sick and absolutely loving it!
I love the stories for each character as well as the ongoing story of the main protagonist and the separate plots for each episode. Addictive stuff!

llynnnn · 30/06/2014 22:16

I am loving season 2 as much as the first one, I'm rationing myself watching them as I don't want them to be over! I am up to episode 6 now and really enjoyed Morellos story, have a horrible feeling she's going to do the same again though and get caught Hmm hope not! Loving that Piper is a little more fiery now, and hoping that Alex comes back into it....

musicalendorphins2 · 01/07/2014 06:41

Those who saw the ending of season 2, did anyone else yell out "Yes!"

Karma well deserved!

lynniep · 01/07/2014 06:53

I'm really enjoying this. Only 4 episodes in. Its a bit too racy for my DH though. He's struggling to cope with the more 'explicit' scenes even if they are only suggested!

Boomerwang · 01/07/2014 08:35

Well, just finished the second series. Not on netflix though. I'm one of those.

The end was brilliant, but a bit rushed imo. At least it looks as though there will be another series, with Alex coming back to Litchfield :D

ShyPhilosopher · 01/07/2014 18:49

I'm enjoying the 2nd season much more than the first. Not sure if it is just because I am more used to the characters, but most of them seem much more sympathetic this series. I'm only up to episode 5 so far though.

My biggest problem is that I spend all day with the theme tune going through my head.

ElizabethFailer · 04/07/2014 00:43

Sorry, I haven't read the entire thread yet, so apologies if I repeat what others may have said. (In my defence, it's late and I have four dc's tomorrow to sort out...)
SPOILER ANyway, yes, I binged Season 1 when I discovered it, and waited anxiously from the moment it popped up on the screen to say it was coming to the release date, and binged Season 2. All fabulous - love all the back stories - it's completely what makes it so wonderful. Love how we're seeing Daya/John, Larry/Piper/Alex/Polly relationships progress, but especially the Rosa, Morello, Suzanne, Gloria and Poussey episodes. I think from a writer's point of view, it's very well crafted to weave the long term plot in with the ladies' stories, and I cannot wait to see Season 3. Stories I'm still so intrigued to learn about are Nicky's, (that's going to be really tough), Big Boo's and the goth Spanish lady's. I thought Rosa's storyline was brilliant, funny, poignant, and just brilliant how they wove it with Vee's demise. There are, as there were with season 1, some lovely moments and of course the whole thing only works because we empathise with the ladies, and often see and agree with their perspectives. And yes, my daughter and I just had the tune in our heads for days!

ElizabethFailer · 04/07/2014 00:44

And yes, I have to say DH get a little bit uncomfortable with the girl-on-girl action! I was quite surprised - I thought he'd love it! :)

ElizabethFailer · 04/07/2014 00:45

And yes, musical endorphins, both dd and I did shout out a big 'Yes!' at the end! :)

AndiPandi · 04/07/2014 00:50

Haha just watched the last episode in S2. "Always so rude that one!" Classic! Can't wait for S3!

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 04/07/2014 07:38

Just realised Red is commander Janeway from Star Trek! I'm not happy with what they have done to Boo and Nikki. I'm just up to the turf war with the black women and the Latinas. Limiting myself to an episode a night to make it last.

Uzma01 · 04/07/2014 20:04

I must admit I've not seen it as yet - but the trailers look good, so will need to order it and watch it when in doing with House M.D. Smile

Uzma01 · 04/07/2014 20:05
  • when I'm done with...
ShyPhilosopher · 05/07/2014 01:09

I'm really liking the fact the 2nd season does not seem quite so Piper-centric. Nothing against Piper, but it's good how the audience is getting to learn more about the other women.

Suzanne (Crazy Eyes) is still my favourite, at the moment, though I felt that starting to falter after SPOILER the way she reacted to Piper getting granted Furlough.

If you guys think your other half gets uncomfortable with the girl on girl scenes, my 19 year old daughter practically explodes with embarrassment whilst watching it with her parents. It's her who originally wanted to watch the show though, so she perseveres. Fair play to her!

catwomanga · 05/07/2014 18:03

Watched with husband one a night all through to the end. Loved series one; was slightly disappointed with series 2 and all the dodgy sex scenes at first, but realised it's to build the audience and after about episode four it was more about the stories and back to its brilliant self again. LOVED the ending(no spoilers here) and just can't wait to see what happens in season 3!!

moonegirl · 08/07/2014 11:04

Just discovered this two weeks ago and have watched both series already!
I didn't realise I was watching the last episode of series 2 and was gutted I had no more to watch

MrsJayGatsby · 08/07/2014 11:22

I discovered OITNB about a week and a half ago and am already half way through season 2 Blush. I absolutely love it! I love the stories, it's such a strong cast. Love poussey, Daya is stunning, Yael Stone who plays Morello is a brilliant actress (loved the twist! No spoilers) and I am a tiny bit in love with beautiful Bennett. I tried to pace myself so it didn't end too soon but I can't, I cannot stop watching!

I've seen a couple of people saying they can't wait for season three, did season two end in a way that needs another season?! That makes me very happy!

MrsJayGatsby · 08/07/2014 11:23

Oh yes and Suzanne!! She's brilliant, love the different layers to her personality.

Loving it too...looking forward to watching it every evening. But does anyone else think Piper has lost her humanity too quickly? Would she have been that mean to Soso when she arrived?

b0zbabe · 13/07/2014 07:00

Got to be on my birthday wish list!

unquietmind · 14/07/2014 19:02

My son found this at the same time as the mums net promotion so we have been watching it together

We like that it's funny. My son really rates it because it's just like a school yard and he can relate to it really easily. (He's 17 by the way)
Just about to start season 2; not sure what else to write without spoiling it

goingbananas30 · 14/07/2014 19:17

I watched the 2 seasons in 3 days.....I can't get enough of it. Can't wait for the 3rd. It's a must watch.
