Back in December, Mumsnetters got stuck into season 1 of Netflix original series Orange is the New Black, starring Taylor Schilling and Jason Biggs. After a lot of exciting discussion and anticipation on the thread, we can reveal that our next Watch with Mumsnet will be Orange is the New Black season 2, available to watch only on Netflix.

"I’m scared that I’m not myself in here and I’m scared that I am."

Based on the acclaimed memoir of the same name, the series follows Brooklynite Piper Chapman, who is sentenced to 15 months in prison for a crime she committed 10 years ago.

The show tracks Piper’s journey as she adapts to her new life and tries to stay out of trouble. Despite her best efforts to fit in, things don’t quite go according to plan and Piper gets mixed up in all sorts of sticky situations, from her many social blunders with fellow inmates, to run-ins with the corrupt prison guards, as well as an expected encounter from her past.

Along the way we are introduced to the hilarious cast of characters, from one of the most impressive (almost) all-female ensembles in recent years. As Piper struggles to adjust to her new reality, she finds unexpected laughter, tears, conflict and camaraderie amidst an eccentric and outspoken group of inmates.

Now back for a new season, we can’t wait to see what’s in store of the inmates of Litchfield Prison. Here’s what Mumsnetters said about the first series:

• “I loved this! I decided to watch it a couple of weeks ago and ended up watching the whole series in two days, I can't wait for series two.”

• “When my husband told me about this epic series, I was nonplussed. However, when I saw that it was from a seemingly sane and intelligent woman's perspective, my interest definitely changed. My parents brought me up to appreciate strong female (and male) characters and 'Orange is the new Black' has these aplenty.”

• “It is very addictive, I watched them all in about 2 weeks and now I'm gagging for more. Can't wait to see what happens in the next series after that ending”

We’d love to find out what you think of the new series, and what your favourite moments have been so far. Watch and join in the discussion on this thread, and you’ll be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 John Lewis voucher.

You can watch the whole series instantly on Netflix here, and if you subscribe to Netflix now, you get the first month free. Whether you’ve seen the first series or you’re new to Orange is the New Black, we’d love to hear your thoughts. Not as good as the first series, but was worth a watch.

plinkyplonks · 15/06/2014 18:33

Binge watched Season 2 - even though I promised myself I'd watch one per night. Ended up trying to convince myself .. just one more episode :) Loved Season 2 - I enjoyed learning about the back story of many of the inmates and Vee is one awesome, kick ass character. I didn't miss Alex at all! In fact, I think S2 benefited from putting the Alex/Larry/Piper love story on the back burner and allow screen time for the other characters to develop. Excellent show - now the long wait until Season 3 begins :D

sisi99 · 15/06/2014 19:04

enjoyed session 2 hoping for more

ThingsThatShine · 15/06/2014 19:48

Same as the poster greeneggs above, I watched the last episode without realising it was the last! I pressed for next and wondered why it was taking me back to the start of season one.

Good ending though! I hated Vee, such a manipulative bitch. Addictive show!

juneybean · 15/06/2014 19:50

Started season 2 the other night, taking it slowly to savour! Enjoying it immensely!

tinypumpkin · 15/06/2014 20:49

Just getting started with this, exciting! Wasn't sure to start with but am being converted.

AmazingDisgrace · 16/06/2014 14:21

I'm up to episode10 of S2 already :( Vee is a fantastic new addition, a really good baddie if that makes sense. Poor Pousse though ...

foolishpeach · 16/06/2014 14:48

I've finished it now Sad.

I loved it! I liked seeing some of the other character's stories. Some were very eye-opening (don't want to give spoilers).

When is season 3 out? Grin

Mrsfluff · 16/06/2014 15:03

I'm loving it! I think the overall cast and the range of characters is really strong. Piper can be a little annoying at times, but I don't think the focus is on her that much - which I think is a real strength of the show. I'm particularly enjoying the focus on the older ladies.

Bothofyou · 16/06/2014 20:38

I adored every minute, but was devastated to realise that Netflix stating "26 episodes" was not referring to the content of series 2, but to both series combined. Fabulous finale, but it came far far too soon, particularly as I thought I had 13 more episodes to go. Woops. Still chuckling randomly at the ending though. Wheee! Haha.

Boomerwang · 17/06/2014 01:14

Hang on BothOfYou There were only 13 or 14 in the first series, so are you saying there's another 12-14 in the second season? If that's the case I need to check my piratebay downloads as I have only managed to get hold of about 8 episodes for season 2

BabyFrasersMum · 17/06/2014 04:01

I binged on all of season 2 this week. So I don't want to give away any spoilers. But the best line is from Larry's dad when they are in the Sauna. "I got a Groupon" hilarious!

TheWholeOfTheSpoon · 17/06/2014 04:32

Netflix always describe their content as X amount of episodes, regardless of seasons. Always have.

AbiJen01 · 17/06/2014 12:02

I enjoy OITNB. The producers did a clever thing to warm us to each character by giving an insight into how they lived before prison life, and what drew them to do what they did. It's almost as though we begin to feel sorry for the women, but in the back of our minds, we have to remember, they are being punished for the ultimate bad choose that got them there.
I've just watched the episode where an older inmate was released into society, having broken her arm through mental anguish, missing her late partner (?), being driven to dementia. An elderly ex-con with dementia released on compassionate discharge, it's cheaper to let her die on the streets than in prison. Fellow inmates get a cold reality check on how they may or may not survive prison. OITNB holds no bars, it's as frank as it needs to be without being too repulsive.

NecesitoDormir · 17/06/2014 13:33

I am still loving it. It is the Prison equivalent of ER. I like how it educates the viewer about issues without sounding preachy.

Vee is a really nasty piece of work. I hope she gets her comeuppance. I'd like to see her back story.

Emrob86 · 17/06/2014 14:47

I love OITNB! Just started watching season 2 and so far my favourite is the clip when they prepare for the job interview competition. The phrare "There's something called pinteresting. I might do that." Really made me laugh! :)

NecesitoDormir · 17/06/2014 21:29

Just finished it! WOW a great ending. Loved it.

alice93 · 18/06/2014 13:35

I'm not normally one to like story lines when the lead character constantly makes the wrong choice (The Talented Mr Ripley being the most obvious example of that) but Piper manages to continue to hook me back into watching each episode. Me and my partner watch these episodes when our little one is in bed - it's probably the show we debate about the most. The series summed up in two words would be "annoyingly addictive".
Can't wait for season three already!

Foxymumma · 18/06/2014 21:10

I absolutely love this and another good reason to stay in and Netflix the night away :)
Great to have a drama with is many strong female characters. Thought provoking too: it makes me really wonder what it's actually like to be in prison. I am sure it's a world away from actual prison life in so many respects. But I like to tHink the camaraderie they develop mimics a women's prisons.
In contrast, all films I can think of based around men's prisons involve lots of dog eat dog mentality ..... Shock

BorderBinLiner · 18/06/2014 21:21

Well that was rather good, the writing is strong all the actors seem to get to show differnt sides of their lives and how it shapes their personalities. Bet it's a great series to work one, you should be proud of your efforts.

I think the same team are behind 'Weeds' and I've just finished Friday Night Lights if you've got a OITNB hole in your life.

ThePortlyPinUp · 19/06/2014 19:47

I've just finished season two today and I loved every episode, I think the characters were more fleshed out this season and I think it was funnier.

Anotheronebitthedust · 19/06/2014 21:50

Did any Mr Selfridge viewers giggle when Suzanne (Crazy eyes) was doing her exaggerated British accent for her lock 'Lady Locksley!' when she was being interrogated? Can't decide whether it was a coincidence or not, but then Americans do love Downton, etc...

AlexVause · 20/06/2014 20:14

I've started season two today, enjoying it so far! Only half way through episode two though.
Piper's ugly crying was quite funny, I'm not a fan of her though, as someone mentioned before she seems a bit weak.
I love Morello and Nicky, I'm hoping to find out more about Morello's back ground - I love her accent! Smile

wubwubwub · 21/06/2014 10:32

I love the casting in this - especially of the children. Such good actresses on the whole, and you really believe they are the younger version of the characters.

Brilliantly done!

wubwubwub · 21/06/2014 19:02

I hate the Alex (or as she insists on saying "Uh-lix") character... kida creeps me out a bit :/

And what happened at court????
