Back in December, Mumsnetters got stuck into season 1 of Netflix original series Orange is the New Black, starring Taylor Schilling and Jason Biggs. After a lot of exciting discussion and anticipation on the thread, we can reveal that our next Watch with Mumsnet will be Orange is the New Black season 2, available to watch only on Netflix.

"I’m scared that I’m not myself in here and I’m scared that I am."

Based on the acclaimed memoir of the same name, the series follows Brooklynite Piper Chapman, who is sentenced to 15 months in prison for a crime she committed 10 years ago.

The show tracks Piper’s journey as she adapts to her new life and tries to stay out of trouble. Despite her best efforts to fit in, things don’t quite go according to plan and Piper gets mixed up in all sorts of sticky situations, from her many social blunders with fellow inmates, to run-ins with the corrupt prison guards, as well as an expected encounter from her past.

Along the way we are introduced to the hilarious cast of characters, from one of the most impressive (almost) all-female ensembles in recent years. As Piper struggles to adjust to her new reality, she finds unexpected laughter, tears, conflict and camaraderie amidst an eccentric and outspoken group of inmates.

Now back for a new season, we can’t wait to see what’s in store of the inmates of Litchfield Prison. Here’s what Mumsnetters said about the first series:

• “I loved this! I decided to watch it a couple of weeks ago and ended up watching the whole series in two days, I can't wait for series two.”

• “When my husband told me about this epic series, I was nonplussed. However, when I saw that it was from a seemingly sane and intelligent woman's perspective, my interest definitely changed. My parents brought me up to appreciate strong female (and male) characters and 'Orange is the new Black' has these aplenty.”

• “It is very addictive, I watched them all in about 2 weeks and now I'm gagging for more. Can't wait to see what happens in the next series after that ending”

We’d love to find out what you think of the new series, and what your favourite moments have been so far. Watch and join in the discussion on this thread, and you’ll be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 John Lewis voucher.

You can watch the whole series instantly on Netflix here, and if you subscribe to Netflix now, you get the first month free. Whether you’ve seen the first series or you’re new to Orange is the New Black, we’d love to hear your thoughts. Don’t forget, you can also join the conversation on Twitter now using the hashtag #OITNB

Note on spoilers: We want to hear your thoughts on everything, from plot twists to season finales and more - but if you’re talking about anything that could reveal important plot details then please put Spoiler at the beginning of your post to warn others who may not have seen it.

By the way, you can also get the new OITNB app on iTunes and the Google Store and you could give your photos an OITNB makeover.

Happy Watching,

AlexVause - just wait :) :) :)

Loved series 1. Don't seem to be as addicted to series 2, but I'm still really enjoying it. Just seen the return if one of the characters from series 1, so I'm looking forward to seeing how that plays out. The book by Piper Kerman that the show is based on is also well worth a read.

Letitsnow9 · 22/06/2014 12:23

I'm just starting episode 3, I'm happy to see Piper back but have enjoyed getting to know characters like Taystee better and am hoping to see the back story of more characters.

After series 1 I read the book of the real piper, it was interesting despite being far less dramatic. Without realising I was being judgemental I was really surprised at how supportive ALL the women were of each other

Cherrypi · 22/06/2014 12:25

All finished. What a great second series such a satisfying final episode too.

MrsRaegan · 22/06/2014 21:19

SPOILER: having now finished, after a massive binge Blush I feel safe enough to come on the thread!

I hate Vee, really hate her. To the point where I started to really dislike Suzanne. Before she was unpredictable but not an unlikeable character. I struggled to feel sorry for her in the last episode, though I think the actress who plays her does a brilliant job. And the storyline remained true to her character I think.

Oh and I felt the whole polly and Larry thing was really hard to relate to, it seemed too much like they were desperate for that storyline to take off when it didn't need to with everything else going on. Your ex fiancés best friend who's married to your friend with a 10 month old baby? And Polly just wasn't believable in that context.

I loved it on the whole and can't wait for season 3!

aarticraftsbyfi · 23/06/2014 12:12

Finished it, roll on the next series, but the book is an excellent read too.
I was a tad disappointed with the series ending as it did, but absolutely love the fact that Netflix release the entire series in one hit - none of this hanging around for a week business like I will have too do with True Blood (what am I going to do when that finishes :( ) I need a new fix!

HopefulHamster · 23/06/2014 21:51

Just finished the second season and thought it was fantastic, really well done - a very strong run of episodes. I love Kate Mulgrew and would like to see more of Red :)

Quodlibet · 23/06/2014 21:58

I love OITNB - a series full of strong, three-dimensional, active female characters is soooo refreshing - but much as I enjoyed season 2 it felt rather formulaic to me. Too many flashback episodes that in some cases over-explained characters to me (I liked trying to work out what was behind their prison faces in S1, but S2 delivered all the answers). I also felt like there were a few too many character turnarounds - Caputo suddenly becoming far more likeable, for example - and I didn't buy the Larry/Polly line either. It felt like some of the depth and complexity of S1 was lost a little (though I watched S1 in sleep-deprived, newborn-cluster feeding binges, so maybe my assessment is a little skewed). Anyway, would happily watch S3.

wubwubwub · 24/06/2014 10:17

i'm loving that i haaaaaaaate Vee

BabyGwyneth · 24/06/2014 14:24

Question:

Whole of season one in a week, half of season two in three days.

That's not like... an addiction... right?

flagnogbagnog · 24/06/2014 14:33

DH and I have watched series one and two all in the past 2 weeks. We both loved it. So hard to find anything which grabs my attention all the way through these days but I was totally addicted to OITNB. What am I going to do with my evenings now!!

TheHoundsBitch · 24/06/2014 14:45

I loved this series, Suzanne just broke my heart in almost every episode, Vee was such a manipulative piece of work, I loved Poussey's line 'You're like a paedophile without the sex' she was predator pure and simple.
I really warmed to Morello this season too, poor love. I'd love to see Big Boo's backstory in S3 - she's a great character.

RabidFairy · 24/06/2014 18:23

I binge watched season one, then season two. Then I immediately started watching it again and I'm on episode two of season two again!

I loved the opening episode, how it removed Piper and us from the relative comfort of Lichfield. Overall I don't think season two is as tightly plotted as season one, but I enjoyed it. Reds scheming to get back on top, the new back story's and insights into other characters, Vees villainy, the segregation enforced by Vee. I very much enjoyed seeing more of Poussey, Morello and Rosa. The final few episodes were perfect and I may have shed a tear or two.

Yeah, it was great!

AndiPandi · 25/06/2014 00:23

Have just finished season 1 in 3 days!!! That much tv is not good for you!, totally hooked. It's getting me through this football festM. Can't wait to start season 2 now. Still a little bit in shock at the end if season 1!!! When day to day drudgery gets me down I've sometimes wondered if life inside would be a pleasant interlude - someone else preparing my meals, no one else to look after, I thought I could just sit & read all day!, changed my mind on that, don't think I could hack it!!

wubwubwub · 25/06/2014 00:23

I liked poussey in this series especially her back story

Doubtfuldaphne · 25/06/2014 08:09

I watched series one in two days. I've now decided that series two must be limited to one episode a day otherwise nothing will get done around here! It has a lot of funny moments and it's well written but is have it down as a deal comedy as I also find it pretty deppressing. It's so entertaining though and I love how it explains all the characters reasons for being there.
I have developed a love for John Bennett as he's so sweet and I can't wait to find out what happens with him and daya as they e nearly been caught a few times.
Mendez is creepy and sadistic. Pipers mother is awful and I love pipers brother.
I love netflix!

Doubtfuldaphne · 25/06/2014 22:18

Sorry that should say I have it down as a dark comedy!

musicalendorphins2 · 26/06/2014 09:26

I watched season 2 recently, can't wait for season three.

PavlovtheCat · 27/06/2014 22:36

I am not listening! lalalalalala! I am waiting, and waiting, and waaaaiting for DH to hurry the fuck up and watch the first series that he was cross with me for watching without him, so that we can watch the second series. I cannot believe I have not given in and watched them yet. I won't be waiting much longer though. It's just rude.

So. Until that happens. I can't read this, but marking for when I have watched them.

Snatchoo · 28/06/2014 13:30

Well I'm about 6 episodes into the second season (sorry, DH you'll have to catch up on your own - I'm not as nice as Pavlov!) and I LOVE it!

Part of it is that it's so nice to see a programme that shows women at their best and worst, but real.

I love all the stories, it's so darkly funny in places, and heartbreaking in others. I don't think I can pick a favourite, but I'm loving Poussay at the moment. It's nice she's become a more prominent character.

wubwubwub · 28/06/2014 19:00

Just finished watching S2 - can't wait for the third season - any idea when it will be out?

wubwubwub · 28/06/2014 19:05

Oh my... no new series until June next year

Shock Sad Shock Sad Shock Sad Shock Sad Shock Sad Shock Sad Shock Sad Shock Sad Shock Sad Shock Sad Shock Sad

SayuriSan · 28/06/2014 19:12

I absolutely love this series.I very rately watch TV anymore as nothing ever captures my intetest anymore but OITNB had me hooked. I can't stop gushing about this show,I think its the first programmes DH and I have watched together and both felt rapt!

The depth and complexity of each character is amazing. The acting is just stunning. If these actors don't already have Granmy nominations they need them. Each character is so believable- heart-wrenching,endearing,frustrating,flawed,human.We finished Season Two today and I feel a little bereft.I may even start watching season one again as I can't wait for seasin three to come out next year!

Honestly I can't recommend this show enough-it's just so gripping. The dark comedy, the humanity, the twists and falls of the narration...its amazing. We'd put the kids to bed & settle down to watch each episode together & had some really interesting discussions about the morality and integrity of each character..the psychology of the subject is what makes it so interesting, but each issue is handled with such orginality it never feels trite or predictable.I just love it!

wubwubwub · 28/06/2014 21:40

is it just me, or does this sticky keep disappearing from _chat?

MostlyCake · 29/06/2014 07:26

I haven't seen this series but after the recommendations above (I managed to avoid reading spoilers!) I'm away to order it on amazon right now!
