Back in December, Mumsnetters got stuck into season 1 of Netflix original series Orange is the New Black, starring Taylor Schilling and Jason Biggs. After a lot of exciting discussion and anticipation on the thread, we can reveal that our next Watch with Mumsnet will be Orange is the New Black season 2, available to watch only on Netflix.

"I’m scared that I’m not myself in here and I’m scared that I am."

Based on the acclaimed memoir of the same name, the series follows Brooklynite Piper Chapman, who is sentenced to 15 months in prison for a crime she committed 10 years ago.

The show tracks Piper’s journey as she adapts to her new life and tries to stay out of trouble. Despite her best efforts to fit in, things don’t quite go according to plan and Piper gets mixed up in all sorts of sticky situations, from her many social blunders with fellow inmates, to run-ins with the corrupt prison guards, as well as an expected encounter from her past.

Along the way we are introduced to the hilarious cast of characters, from one of the most impressive (almost) all-female ensembles in recent years. As Piper struggles to adjust to her new reality, she finds unexpected laughter, tears, conflict and camaraderie amidst an eccentric and outspoken group of inmates.

Now back for a new season, we can’t wait to see what’s in store of the inmates of Litchfield Prison. Here’s what Mumsnetters said about the first series:

• “I loved this! I decided to watch it a couple of weeks ago and ended up watching the whole series in two days, I can't wait for series two.”

• “When my husband told me about this epic series, I was nonplussed. However, when I saw that it was from a seemingly sane and intelligent woman's perspective, my interest definitely changed. My parents brought me up to appreciate strong female (and male) characters and 'Orange is the new Black' has these aplenty.”

• “It is very addictive, I watched them all in about 2 weeks and now I'm gagging for more. Can't wait to see what happens in the next series after that ending”

We’d love to find out what you think of the new series, and what your favourite moments have been so far. Watch and join in the discussion on this thread, and you’ll be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 John Lewis voucher.

You can watch the whole series instantly on Netflix here, and if you subscribe to Netflix now, you get the first month free. Whether you’ve seen the first series or you’re new to Orange is the New Black, we’d love to hear your thoughts. Don’t forget, you can also join the conversation on Twitter now using the hashtag #OITNB

Note on spoilers: We want to hear your thoughts on everything, from plot twists to season finales and more - but if you’re talking about anything that could reveal important plot details then please put Spoiler at the beginning of your post to warn others who may not have seen it.

By the way, you can also get the new OITNB app on iTunes and the Google Store and you could give your photos an OITNB makeover.

Happy Watching,

It really does mama.

They do it really well.

EightToSixer · 10/06/2014 14:40

Now two episodes into series 2. I'm really enjoying the continuing character progression, there aren't many shows that can manage to bring on so many characters with such unique back-stories that continue to develop over time.

SantanaLopez · 10/06/2014 15:54

I've just finished it! Amazing, but I wish I had paced myself.

I found it a bit more.... what's the word- obvious/try hard in places than Season 1, but I loved the character development and moving away from Piper.

I read the book in the gap between 1 and 2 and it's very different, but worth a read.

Petrasmumma · 10/06/2014 16:16

Just finished. Bravo!
I think Piper took a step back in favour of other characters this season but I really enjoyed their back stories. In particular, Rosa and Morello were v well done and I appreciated seeing more of the COs and the more senior residents of Lichfield. Larry seemed to be an after thought, shame.

LiDLrichardsPistachioSack · 10/06/2014 16:17

I bloody love this show. Somehow I've managed to restrain myself to one episode per evening. Just finished the one about Mendoza...she definitely needed mumsnet!

Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" has me in stitches every single episode. Love her. Love Big Boo too.

YourMaNoBraBackOfMyCar · 10/06/2014 20:19

Just finished this. Spoiler alert!!!

So glad vee got her comeuppance. What a disgusting person. Very manipulative and evil. Her poor foster son :( I can't stand the guard that got the girl pregnant. Such a wimp and a copout.

Lioninthesun · 10/06/2014 21:20

If any of y'all who've watched it and want to chat but don't want to spoil anything for those who are catching up - www.mumsnet.com/Talk/telly_addicts/2100568-Orange-Is-The-New-Black-SPOILERS SPOILER THREAD HERE! We're busy planning S3 if the writers are having any difficulty Wink Grin

EightToSixer · 10/06/2014 22:27

Loved episode 3. Particularly the quote about gluten. Prison is gluten, don't do the crime if you can't eat flour :-)

Samedaydifferentusername · 10/06/2014 23:15

Still loving this series, think Poussay and Nicky are my current favourites.

I have 3 episodes to go and I will be sad when I'm done. I wish I had watched series 1 right before starting series 2 as there were little things I couldn't remember, I had to go
Google why Gina had got burnt in the last season.

I really like Piper and Alex in the last series but actually the flashbacks are annoying me a little, they are taking away from the juicy storylines in the prison.

I didn't like Gloria previously but after seeing her back story I have warmed to her.

I loved the episode with Rosa, she's a wonderful character and I liked the interaction with her and the young cancer patient.

I can't wait until season 3! I hope the last episode doesn't end on a cliff hanger like season 1, my nerves can't take it! Grin

santasballsackisnolonger · 10/06/2014 23:26

I loved watching season 2. House has gone to pot while I binge watched it! Tank girl in episodes 1 and 2 was an unexpected bonus!

NecesitoDormir · 11/06/2014 11:28

I'm on episode 5 and Larry is annoying me. I'm not sure when his friend will be investigating the fraud, series 3 perhaps?!

I'm loving the character developments. I really enjoy when a character you originally hated develops and you begin to understand them.

I'd definitely recommend the series continuing onwards.

CookieRobot · 11/06/2014 12:19

They have really casted the actors who play the younger versions of the inmates well. I have been very impressed so far.

BetsyBell · 11/06/2014 16:37

We're pacing ourselves here - just one episode a night! I watched s1 on my own a couple of months ago and binged it hard - DH did the same after I told him how great it was.

We watch e4 last night and I'm enjoying it as much as s1. We were both left feeling a little heartbroken for poor Morello. I wasn't surprised about her unfolding backstory but very impressed by the reveal of it and the actor's portrayal.

The last show we watched together was Breaking Bad, which, and I know this is unpopular opinion, we found annoying by the end - really flat, 2 dimensional characters in the later seasons, which left us 'meh' and limping through till we'd finished. OITNB, on the other hand, has a great wealth of character, warmth, humour, emotion and wonderful acting. I'm left totally convinced about pretty much all the characters and the story lines and backstories are compelling. Excellent work from everyone involved and is a classic series in my mind.

Well done Netflix!

ILikeWarmHugs · 11/06/2014 20:30

This has been long anticipated in our household. I binge-watched the first series whilst on mat leave. I like how they have gone down the breaking bad lines of taking a 'good' person and showing their slow demise into someone darker and more complex than is at first obvious.

Piper seems to have lost her way and I can't wait to see where this series takes her... Also, what is Red planning I wonder?!

TheAfterDark · 11/06/2014 20:40

4 episodes in and am hooked again (series 2).
Am pleased that the format is essentially the same this series, I love finding out the back-story for different characters.. Especially Scary Eyes and Tasty so far, makes me think of them as more real characters.

Love it..off to watch episode 5 now!

Read some interesting things about the making of ... Did you know the transsexual's twin brother appeared as herself pre-change in series 1? Random fact but that's what I like!
There were more but have forgotten.

JustWonderingAbout · 11/06/2014 23:03

OMG just finished last episode. Super high.
Won't disappoint!
In so sad now that it's over. Was wonderful. Will miss those crazy-arse bitches! There was no point in even trying to pace myself. Totally addictive.

Recommendations of other things that come close to being as good (characterisation really important).

ilovemybum · 12/06/2014 00:28

Just finished watching the last episode of season 2. When is season 3?! That series was amazing!

The episode with Morellos past was probably my favourite episode. I really didn't see that coming and I do now feel sorry for her. The Piper and Alex thing was also pretty good. I thoroughly enjoyed this season.

Bodicea · 13/06/2014 18:56

Need a new series to get into. Will give it a try

Lioninthesun · 13/06/2014 19:12

You won't be disappointed! It's so wonderful to finally have a show with realistic and varied female characters. You can really see the depth in the writing reflecting the complexities for each story and you can't help but feel something for each and every person in the show. Enjoy!

greeneggsandjam · 13/06/2014 20:50

I am trying to pace myself but its very hard! I have just watched the episode where they all have to sleep in one big room due to the high rains. What an incredibly horrid person V is. How clever of her to have divided up so many people and created so much tension. I hope someone sorts her out! I find it hard to have a favourite character as they all have their own unique ways. I do like Poussee (Sp?) and Taysee and feel quite sorry for the pair. I think one of the saddest parts was when Piper visited Reds restaurant only to find out that it was up for lease but was unable to tell Red. I think I am going to have to go back to the first series again when its finished! I don't usually watch much TV wise but for some reason this has me hooked. I think I will have to go and buy the book.

FusilliJerry · 14/06/2014 07:02

I've just watched episode 3 of season 2, really love it so trying to space them out and not binge watch!

funkybuddha · 14/06/2014 19:26

Spoiler!!!!!!
Just watched the whole of the second series in a week, husband came in while I was halfway through and is now starting to watch the whole series after realising its not "women talking about knitting". Its one of the best series around, perfect mix of dark emotions, human traits and humour.
Loved Vee and her impact of joining the ladies. Can't wait to see what happens with the pregnancy and the baby, really want Daya and Jon to work out, they are so sweet!

TooTiredToBeCreative · 14/06/2014 19:29

Half way through season 2 and loving it!

KatnissEvermean · 15/06/2014 01:15

I just finished binge watching this!

Hated Vee with a passion. I absolutely love Poussey, Taystee and Nikki and I would join Red's family in a heartbeat.

The Daya/Bennett storyline was the most boring to me, I really hate Bennett. I would also like less Larry, but I suppose it's good to contrast his life with that of the women in prison.

I cried my eyes out for ages at the final scene (think it's pregnancy hormones!). It was perfect to me!

I think I am going to have to rewatch from the beginning of the first series because I'm gutted it's over.

greeneggsandjam · 15/06/2014 14:24

Nooooooooo I have just finished watching the last episode in the series without realising it was the last episode!!!!!! What an ending! I didn't see that coming at all. Too many funny/favourite/memorable bits to mention. I'm so glad I stumbled across this series, but what am I going to do now???
