Watch With Mumsnet, in association with Netflix, is back again this month – this time, with the critically-acclaimed series Breaking Bad, widely regarded as one of the most electrifying television shows ever to have come out of the US.

Breaking Bad follows Emmy award-winner Bryan Cranston as Walter White, a high school science teacher diagnosed with terminal lung cancer who, in order to support his family, teams up with a former student to manufacture and sell crystal meth. Millions tuned in to the epic finale last year; no surprise that Mumsnetters were among them.

Here’s what Mumsnetters had to say about Breaking Bad:

• "It's amazing - one of the most original dramas I've come across."

• "One of the best TV series ever … I loved it. The cast, the script, the acting...everything."

• "Now I've finished it, I realise it's almost as good as The Wire - so it's one of the best things I've ever watched on TV."

• "Just finished the last episode of Breaking Bad. It was intense. We've been watching at least one episode every night, sometimes three!"

With all five seasons available to watch on Netflix now, your viewing is sorted for the coming months (and, yes: we give you permission to binge-watch). Just come back to this thread and let us know what you think; everyone who joins the discussion will be entered into a competition to win an Xbox One console.

Note on spoilers: We want to hear your thoughts on everything, from plot twists to season finales and more - but if you’re talking anything that could reveal important plot details then please put Spoiler at the beginning of your post to warn others who may not have seen it.

Happy watching,
MNHQ

Best Jesse being bored scene ever Grin

I think I might also need the complete box set. It has two hours of extras, an alternative ending and a unique way of holding the discs. Magnets, bitch!

I hated it at first, but by the end I was totally hooked....best series on TV! Especially love all the colour metaphors: yellows, green, purple, greys etc!

scarletfingernail · 27/03/2014 23:51

Just 4 episodes to go and then it's finished for us. I'm already worrying that nothing else will match it. (Previously thought that Homeland was the best thing ever).

I found the first 5/6 episodes a bit slow, although I didn't get bored. Season 4 has been my absolute favourite. The attention to detail, the quality of the writing and the magnificent acting just make it so addictive. My favourite characters are Hank, Jesse and Mike. The five series has taken me from rooting for Walt the underdog to despising him.

Oh and I love that Candice from Kevin and Perry Go Large plays such an interesting character.

ByTheSea · 28/03/2014 11:24

We're 4 episodes into Series 2 and manage to watch a few episodes a week. Loving it.

Blizzardofbuzzards · 29/03/2014 12:01

I remember being lost in books and films as a child. As an adult I've always retained a sense of "I am watching fiction".

With Breaking Bad, more than once, I experienced that complete immersion again. Nothing else has ever done that since I was about 12 and I'm a bit over half a century now Shock. It is quite simply amazing.

Since finishing watching it a few months ago DH and I have a lingering feeling that they are real people out there in Albuquerque and worry a little about how they're getting on.

Ledare · 29/03/2014 13:02

Blizzard, yes - exactly!

I've just realised that there are no girls in it. There are four child minor characters. Andrea's brother, yes, probably had to be male, but the child of the addict couple (how sad was that!) Brock and the child on the bike could have been female. I wonder why.

Piddlepuddle · 29/03/2014 17:41

We loved Breaking Bad from episode 1. It always surprises me when people say they had to really try to get on with it at the start - we tried The Wire but found the accents too hard, too much going on etc - with Breaking Bad it was addicting from the start. I agree that Walt's niceness diminishes at the same rate as his hair!

574ejones · 30/03/2014 13:29

We have been watching this for weeks and have just started season 4. I have been in hospital for the past two weeks (another story) but when I was well and conscious the thought of the next season kept me going. I love the relationship between Walt and Jesse and all they go through together. The actor that plays Walt is brilliant and we used to love watching him in Malcolm in the Middle.

I have now got my stepmother into watching it too!

glendatheveryexcitedwitch · 30/03/2014 15:38

I've just watched up to episode 7 and while it has taken that long to stoke my interest, I can't say I agree with the excellent script writing, cast and acting but then again I'm only at the very beginning!!

I am warming to Walter and as there's a baby on the way I'm sure there will be tear so come!!

I will continue to watch it and hope I get sucked in like everyone else did!!!

aristocat · 30/03/2014 16:36

As much as I adore Breaking Bad watching it for a second time is not as good as the first, however whilst browsing through NF programmes we have started to watch a show called Lilyhammer. It is brilliant! Apparently a NetFlix original Smile

Well done NetFlix - easily worth £6 each month. More like this please.

My only criticism is that it takes forever to load - mind you this is a bonus when DD wants to watch Beverley Hills Chihuahua ........

lance66 · 31/03/2014 17:17

I'm halfway through series 2 while I'm enjoying it .i don't feel it is as gripping as I expected.

finleypop · 31/03/2014 17:18

I have only just discovered Breaking Bad, thanks to my new Netflix subscription. How did I ever miss this? At least I can catch up watching back to back episodes now woohoo!!!

marellocherry25 · 31/03/2014 17:20

I love Netflix but I just can't get into Breaking Bad - the characters just don't appeal for me!

devito92 · 31/03/2014 17:23

Netflix comes into its own with boxsets to download. Season 1 was excellent but I'm finding season 2 slow but hey I've said that before. Hang in there its going to be epic !!

wintertimeisfun · 31/03/2014 17:30

best thing i have ever seen, loved it even more than 24. superb tv prog, tv at its best. cannot find fault. miss it so much :0(

MonkeyRisotto · 31/03/2014 17:35

Have watched the first 2 series and found them gripping, but struggling with series 3. Have watched the first couple of episodes twice now, having left too long before continuing and forgetting what had happened.

Is it worth persevering?

aerynsun · 31/03/2014 17:36

Anyone else feel absolutely bereft by the final episode? It was the only ending they could really have had and beautifully done.

Thisisfreakingmeout · 31/03/2014 17:43

I am part way through series 2. I just started mat leave and the "sleep when the baby sleeps" mantra has become "cram an episode when the baby sleeps". So tired, living in squalor and yet so addicted!

TheFutureMrsB · 31/03/2014 17:47

I started watching Breaking Bad ages ago on Netflix, I just put something on to while away the time when I was tackling a big pile of ironing, needless to say the ironing pile was still the same size come the end of the episode as I got so into the programme!

I love it.

ActuallyMummy · 31/03/2014 17:58

We are obsessed with Breaking Bad at the moment. It's just so damned clever! Only on series 2 and loving how paunchy frumpy Walt is turning into such a dude!

wintertimeisfun · 31/03/2014 18:31

aery i feel the same. i watched it again, dh wouldn't. now i have to leave it a good few months before i watch it again :0) i think the last episode was truly terrific, had everything in it (not to give anything away to anyone who ain't seen it yet....). i wish it hadn't ended. dh and i are currently watching fringe, i quite like it but it ain't a patch on bb!

happy2bamummy · 31/03/2014 18:43

Totally agree, I've just finished it after pretty much watching it back to back as much as possible. I like your idea of watching it again Grin I loved Jesse and Saul and of course Walt was great.

ktmd · 31/03/2014 18:45

This is one of the most gripping and original dramas that I have ever seen. Totally gripped from episode 1.....it just gets better and better as you go through the series. Wow!

zaphgb · 31/03/2014 19:05

It's addictive - the amount of twists and turns is what makes it so watchable. Plus, you really get into each character's stories. You know when something is good to watch when you find yourself thinking about the character's throughout the day which is what I did.

Jana11 · 31/03/2014 19:18

We watched series 1 and 2 two year's ago when our son was at home. When he left we more or less forgot about it until recently when he sent us the third. We became totally addicted and watched the rest in a few weeks. After the excellent final episode we felt as if something was missing. Will the follow-up, Better Call Saul be as good?
