Watch With Mumsnet, in association with Netflix, is back again this month – this time, with the critically-acclaimed series Breaking Bad, widely regarded as one of the most electrifying television shows ever to have come out of the US.

Breaking Bad follows Emmy award-winner Bryan Cranston as Walter White, a high school science teacher diagnosed with terminal lung cancer who, in order to support his family, teams up with a former student to manufacture and sell crystal meth. Millions tuned in to the epic finale last year; no surprise that Mumsnetters were among them.

Here’s what Mumsnetters had to say about Breaking Bad:

• "It's amazing - one of the most original dramas I've come across."

• "One of the best TV series ever … I loved it. The cast, the script, the acting...everything."

• "Now I've finished it, I realise it's almost as good as The Wire - so it's one of the best things I've ever watched on TV."

• "Just finished the last episode of Breaking Bad. It was intense. We've been watching at least one episode every night, sometimes three!"

With all five seasons available to watch on Netflix now, your viewing is sorted for the coming months (and, yes: we give you permission to binge-watch). Just come back to this thread and let us know what you think; everyone who joins the discussion will be entered into a competition to win an Xbox One console.

Note on spoilers: We want to hear your thoughts on everything, from plot twists to season finales and more - but if you’re talking anything that could reveal important plot details then please put Spoiler at the beginning of your post to warn others who may not have seen it.

Happy watching,
MNHQ

Have serious BB withdrawal ! just finished and have to agree with a lot of what is said on here the acting is simply superb, every character totally believable, but although I was always on Walt's side once he killed one of my fav characters (don't want to spoil it for anyone) I announced to my OH through tears I don't care what happens to Walt now that he did that to x, yes I was being dramatic but I did get very caught up in it all! We have got to now go back and watch extra scenes and might be able to put the cushion down that I had to have near me for scary scenes, love Hank , Jessie, Saul and Mike ,
grew to like Marie never did like Skylar but I think that's her character. Loved the ending and I am laughing at people slowing down their of watching of episodes towards the end as that is exactly what we did !

We just started season 2 and it keeps on getting better. There's more suspense and drama now, it felt like season 1 was more setting the scene. I really like that each episode picks up where the previous one finished.

It's a cut above the others.
I really miss it, having been watching it over the last few years.
Once British television left us high and dry (and I bet they're kicking themselves all over Albuquerque now) scrabbling around to source each episode every week took over my life.

Deckmyballs · 24/03/2014 23:21

Whitershade - OMG yes! Must look into that. Hopefully it's just as good and not a flop as most other sideway sequels often are.

Toffee - I honestly believe he was (mostly) thinking of others.

SPOILER

he started the whole thing to raise money for his family fair enough being too proud to accept his skeemy ex business partners money...he always made reference to how much money he needed to keep them safe and happy once he had died (which I think he really thought he would). Even in his final moments ensuring the cash would reach them somehow, and saving Jessie like he did...
His character was amazing. Ok he did alot of bad stuff but if you look into the intentions of everything he did I really believe he was acting for others along with being addicted to the cooking.
He allowed jane to die because she was a bad influence on Jessie and getting him into heroine. He killed gustavo to protect himself from Jessie but also to protect Jessie from gus who would eventually kill him. Everything he did had reason (albeit skewed vision)

Deckmyballs · 24/03/2014 23:22

I finished the series tonight and am mourning already Sad

ToffeeWhirl · 24/03/2014 23:50

SPOILER ALERT

Deck - But he actually admitted that he did it all because he discovered he was good at it, not for his family. I think he used his initial reason -wanting to provide for his family - to justify his behaviour to himself so that he could continue to think of himself as a 'good' man.

And I'm afraid that he let J die because he didn't want her to interfere with his business partnership with Jesse, not because he cared so much about Jesse. (He did care about Jesse, but he cared more about himself and his family).

But yes, his character was amazing and I felt so much compassion for him, especially towards the end, in spite of his actions. He did bad things, but he genuinely loved his wife and children. I really wished it could all have been a bad dream and he could have woken up with his family at home again.

I'm in mourning too. I keep watching clips of interviews on YouTube, but nothing replaces the excitement of wondering what on earth is going to happen next in the episode. The writing, the cast, the music, the cinematography - it was all brilliant.

Deckmyballs · 25/03/2014 07:03

SPOILER

toffee - yeah you're right, he did admit those reasons in the end but I dunno I just feel he always had good intentions, but in the end realised none of those intentions ended up good for the family and so everything he did became only pleasing to himself. I think he was scared to go on without Jessie, he needed him by his side to feel safe and I think he fathered him a lot but didn't feel appreciated by him which let the relationship down.
I loved Jessie so much! What a poor boy, so much hurt, anger, confusion, emotion wrapped into one man. I had my ups and downs with his character especially in the last series but just loved him!
The one thing missing for me was a little emotional moment from the 2 of them at the end, I really wanted a hug or something but I guess too much had happened Sad

I have never in my life felt so involved with a series before, it was incredible!

Chigley1 · 25/03/2014 08:30

Having watched it all I can say I've never watched anything so tense; the episode with the tortoise....I didn't breathe for about 45 minutes.

Driveway · 25/03/2014 10:46

I prefer the story arc of Jessie to Walter.
I like how the science teacher family man joins with the small time drug dealer low life and the science teacher is the one who corrupts and changes Jessie for the worse rather than the other way around.

pigsinmud · 25/03/2014 13:56

I am a bit behind! Sometimes I get put off a series when there is a lot of hype around it. I have just watched the first episode of Breaking Bad. About half way through I wasn't sure if it was for me as I was feeling very miserable. It all seemed so bleak! I changed my mind though at the end of the episode and can't wait to watch episode 2.

I think dh will like it too. He doesn't watch much tv, but he likes a box set to work through. We've just finished the last ever episode of Dexter and I think Breaking Bad can fill that space for us.

Bluecarrot · 25/03/2014 19:18

I love BB! Favourite character is Jesse - really love how they have this sweet side that just keeps peeping out from the bad boy persona. Not unpleasant to look at either!

Like many people, it took me a while to get into it. I hated the really violent episodes at the start and much prefer the later seasons. Think we are about a third of the way into the fourth season.

Hullygully · 25/03/2014 19:35

Hated it.

Cliched characters, partic the women.

JimmyCorkhill · 25/03/2014 19:42

I have never in my life mourned the end of a tv series. With Lost it was more of a sense of achievement getting to the end, but also a bit of a relief. With Six Feet Under it was real joy at how they tied up all the loose ends. With Dexter it was real anger at how a once mighty show had fallen. But Breaking Bad? I can't stop thinking about it!! I am so angry at Walt yet really like him too. I worry about what Jesse is up to now. I wonder what Mike's grandaughter thinks. Did Huell ever leave the safe house?!

If you search for Breaking Bad on Pinterest there are lots of really lovely photo's of the cast and some gorgeous ones of Walt and Jesse.
Or you can watch clips of Malcolm in the Middle on YouTube and go "noooo, it's not the same man" Grin

lettysmith21 · 25/03/2014 19:56

Breaking bad is so adictive, and I will be gutted when I have finished it! One of the best things I have watched in a long time.

WhisperingPea · 25/03/2014 20:45

Just watching Series 3, episode 11 and my husband just walked in and said "Oh, it's the Dad off Malcolm In The Middle". I liked MITM and hadn't even noticed :-( BB is brilliant!!

BoysWillGrow · 25/03/2014 22:58

DP and I are only on s1 episode 3, we love it so far, he's definatl not Malcolm's stressed out dad any more is he? Grin

TheZeeTeam · 26/03/2014 00:07

I tried to watch the first episode 3 times and fell asleep every single time. My 17 year old son LOVES it though.

Ledare · 26/03/2014 09:38

TheZeeTeam, so did I - now I'm obsessed.

Thanks for the idea about pinterest. I need this!

I have just started watching this. Found it a little slow to start with but got completely hooked around the middle of season 2! Can't wait to see the rest.

Mrskeylime · 26/03/2014 19:15

'This is my own private domicile and I will not be harassed. Bitch!'

Saw that episode the other night Grin still laughing about it now!

Last night I saw the one where Walt tells Gale that he can't work with him because he is classical and Gale is jazz. Then Jesse walks in. So funny Grin

Ledare · 26/03/2014 19:40

That is a great scene!

I love it when Jesse is bored and creating his own entertainment. The one where he is alone in the lab is awesome Grin

JacqueslePeacock · 26/03/2014 19:45

Really enjoyed series 1 but we are finding series 2 much less gripping so far. Will persevere though!

Mrskeylime · 27/03/2014 07:55

Jesse is in the lab blowing up his suit with the air pump while being observed from above by Mr Hard guy is excellent. Grin
