i am in a yahoo group and least 1 new poem is posted on alternate days. i never open themof course else I would vomit. But does anyone actually like them?

sometimes I am really in the mood for schmaltz .. sometimes I laugh at it, sometimes I shed a tear .. depends on hormones and how DH is doing I suppose ... hate it when people send me schmaltz in a kind of 'we truly understand' way

but a good bit of schmaltz definitely has its place

yes but twiglett-not having a child with SN you don't get people offering them to you as something that may "help" (since when did throwing up over my sofa help?)

NOw someone offering to look after ds1 fgor an afternoon (ha ha ha ha ha ha ha) is help- hasn't ever happened- except for my mum- but vomit inducing poems- most definitely not.

you're right Jimjams .. I don't have a child with SN .. but I have been sent these schmaltzy poems / prose when DH has been having bad flares (that can last up to a year) .. not that I have to justify why I posted of course

Damn I HATE schmaltzy poems. And I'm American. I never fit in there, needless to say. They're a load of bullshit and only good for use as loo paper.

Schmaltzy poems are almost always written by people who've never gone through what they're writing about and/or they're also brainless, b/c if they had a modicum of intelligence they'd realise how insulting their drivel is.

Yes, I can relate! My mum tried this on me when she made the mistake of asking about our financial situation. 'Well, you're just starting out. It's hard to do w/o. Be patient and give your worries to God.'

FFS! I'm nearly 35 years old, far from 'just starting out'. Is God going to pay my rent? I told her God seemed to want me out on the streets for some reason, but that he could just get stuffed b/c that was just NOT going to happen.

The other line that gets me is, about children w/developmental delays, 'Well, they'll all get there in the end.'

They will? How the hell is that supposed to happen? Is there really such a thing as a magic wand??

Someone told me recently (very well meaning) that I should pray for ds1 as god performs miracles.

She's never met ds1 so I think she kind of imagines autism as she knows it which is very hf. I just laughed and said we'd need a miracle the size of the loaves and fishes. I told her she was welcome to pray for him though.

Yes the "they'll get there in the end" would irritate the hell out of me as well

When people use those lines on us, I bite my tongue not to say something like, 'Does Elvis talk to you?' or 'Do you believe in alien abduction?'

When people tell me that god choooses special parents I have to stop myself saying "no he doesn't- YOU could have a child wwith SN you know- doesn't just happen to other people". But usually I just leave the room and count to 10

thats what gets me, i mean why do people think it will never happen to them? i mean I was one of them once but why do they look all pitying without realising that shit does actually happen to everyone

And if you say anything you sound like a mad harbinger of doom. I quite like that idea actually.
