im going through each point they have raised now it’s ridiculous. I’ve got EHCP, Occupational therapist report, SALT report, educational psychologist reports etc and they have picked out just odd positives and have totally ignored the professionals concerns. it’s so frustrating. I’m ready to take it all the way. Good luck to you!!❤️

My son has a rare bone disease, he is covered in tumours and has already had multiple operations, I think there’s too little known about his disease so although he’s had probably 30-40 hospital appointments since his diagnoses any letters that I have from hospital etc are very vague with regards to how it affects him, it’s pretty much just my word with regards to his needs. Granted I filled the original claim forms with very little info and I didn’t have a clue what to write, I don’t think his MR application is much better because I didn’t have a clue what to put in it but I have sent his X-rays showing tumours in most of his bones and a few paragraphs from myself just stating he needs constant care because one leg is growing quicker than the other so has poor balance, he can’t dress himself because the fingers on his left hand are short and deformed and the pain he’s in every single day etc but I’m really not feeling hopeful! Good luck to you too, it sometimes feels like the just briefly flick through the evidence to pick out anything which could go against our claims xx

Aww bless him. It’s so frustrating when people get awarded with no evidence but I guess we don’t know the full story. It just feels like some make their own rules up. I hope you hear soon and it’s positive but don’t give up if it’s not the result you want xx

I honestly don’t think I’m going to appeal if his MR is rejected, before I found this thread I probably wouldn’t have thought about the claim much but it’s like someone else said, because you know about it you’re constantly checking for updates and it exasperates the stress we’re all already under. I will just find a way to provide the things my son needs just like I have done this past year, at least then I won’t be stressing about his claim xx

after a painful nearly 31 week wait for MR I finally heard but we’ve been declined so I’m appealing again. It’s just so frustrating because they have just bullet pointed positives from his EHCP like that he enjoys playing Fortnite, I don’t understand how that is relevant?

also a massive contradiction is he can walk to school but this is the only route he can do almost independently (still needs support) they have said he isn’t entitled to mobility because of this but they have sent me the law which says familiar routes must be disregarded.

If anyone has any tips for me they would be appreciated.

Similar thing happened to me. Currently 5 months waiting for an appeal hearing! They blamed it on my child being under 5 and used meaningless points from the ECHP. I can understand why people think it’s better not to include it as evidence. Keep fighting. You will get what you’re entitled too!

Have you both done MR for HRM?

It’s so frustrating because children with SEND are aloud strengths and they have just focused on these. But even so, one strength they have stated is he can respond to his name when listening, he’s 13 🙃

good luck to you I hope you hear soon. Any advice? I am just in the middle of writing my statement for the appeal I haven’t submitted yet.

MR was originally for HRC & HRM. as we have diagnosis now etc before then it was COC as recieving MRC since 2 years old. They uplifted to HRC but they have declined HRM, they did extend award when I submitted my appeal until 2028.

I tried reaching out to citizen advice but my local one has a severe backlog and I couldn’t wait. I tried my best to be fair and added on more evidence. They then sent a pack contiaining over 100 pages of everything I have ever submitted all claim forms etc and now we just wait for a date. There was a few appeal got awarded in the first 4 weeks when DWP look at it another time before tribrunal. Hopefully you’re get over turned. Have you got an award in place now?

Oh gosh sounds overwhelming but it’s worth going all the way. No he didn’t get awarded at all 😫

i think I’m going to contact citizens advice too if they have a backlog il submit without them.

Sounds similar to mine, my daughter was awarded MRC at 3 but I didn’t do a MR at the time because I didn’t have any diagnosis or evidence to prove it so now I’m doing a coc for HRC and HRM now I have it all. I fully expect she will probably just move to HRC and then have to do a MR for mobility, but hopefully we will all get the right award in the end 🤞

Does it actually take 3-5 working days for payment or can it go in quicker? Thanks

Hi all. I’ve been on this group before and found it super helpful. My daughter’s claim is up for renewal in November. Does anyone know if many renewals get rejected? getting nervous already! X

I think that a large proportion do get rejected and that's why the MR rate is so high and in such a backlog. I think many people fall into the trap at renewal (me included) of thinking nothings changed, and they already have the information from initial decision so you don't need to provide much. It seems they don't even bother looking at the initial decision and assess from scratch again at renewal which seems ridiculous but it's civil service so I don't know why I'm surprised. I think renewal should be sending any further relevant information and letting them know if there has been any changes especially as for most of the children that are claimed for they have lifelong conditions. So what I would definitely say is treat it like a new claim and go into as much detail and send as much info as you can.

i think after age 12 there is an increase in declines as they assume 12 year olds should be able to manage their own conditions, definitely treat it as a new claim and send as much evidence as you cwn x
