Just got my text to say she qualifies!!!!! I am so relieved!!!! 💜💜💜💜💜

My scan date was mid December! I haven't called before as I didn't want to be disappointed on the phone So I will still wait for a letter or payment.
I cocked up my initial forms but have sent numerous additional statements so I hope they've received and read them all to base the decision right!!! 🙏🙏 based on her needs, she qualifies for HRC. She's only 3 so highly doubt the HRM but I tried for it as outdoors and her mobility is a massive challenge for her.
Keep in there people!!

Awww fabulous ❤️ so pleased for you x

Oh really I’m still waiting like 3 weeks later the lady on the phone told me today once I get the letter off the decision maker which will say we owe you money it should take 2-3 days for the money to go in

Seems like its a lengthy process again!
I was told the amount over the phone when i called on the 10th but now according to case manager it has to be sent to the payment team to check, they did not do this till the 15th after me chasing it up although decision maker had awarded on the 5th, and its still with the payments team waiting!!

Is anyone still waiting on late Oct/early Nov? I don't actually know what my scan date is as I never received a letter (mobility application, he already receives care component) but the guy on the phone told me it had been received on the 25th Oct.

The lady told me it goes to the dm u get a letter saying they have decided you are entitled to backdate then it goes to the payment team then once u get the letter on journal saying the amount it will be in bank within 2/3 days

Foreverlearning88 · 28/04/2025 20:00

If you claim carers allowance, does that get backdated? Just wondering if it's worth it as if it's backdated, how does it work with universal credit, do they take x amount off you for the back dated amount?

And does carers element get backdated too? I know that one doesn't affect UC payments.

Thanks for any advice

At this point im certain they make it up as they go along 🤣 i received the letter on my journal from Dm on the 5th, then received another journal message 10 days later saying it was now sent to payment team for them to check the amount of arrears is correct and have to wait for them to approve before payment can be processed, and 13 days later still waiting 🙈

Carers allowance will get back dated and then you will get payment weekly after that. With UC you can claim disability and carers element and ask uc to backdate both, these will be recalculated on your previous monthly awards. Both backdated won’t be used as income just a one off payment. If you claim carers allowance still do the uc carers element as carers allowance comes out as an incomes so even though it nearly wipes out the carers element you still won’t be at a loss by claiming both. Hope that makes sense

you would get back dated money from disability element but only one or the other with carers element / allowance because of how they work out you getting carers allowance

Ah its so confusing! So if I was to claim carers allowance, that would get back dated and I wouldn't be hit with a big debt for universal credit for the back dated bit? They don't make it easy to understand do they? And you can't get both backdated, is that correct?
Thanks for your help xx

No you won’t get into arrears with it because they will backdate all of your previous awards to get the figure of your backdated money.
so say if you only did uc disability and carers element you would get both of those backdated through uc. If you was to claim uc disability and carers element you would get them both backdated but because you would claim carers allowance ( which gets backdated quicker ) it would take the carers allowance off as income leaving maybe about £40 a month credit on the uc for the carers element. That’s why if claiming carers allowance you will get the full disability element backdated and alittle bit of the carers element and then the full backdate of carers allowance.

You need to claim the disability and carers element through uc to make payments work out or it would just show carers as a income coming off without adding the extra money on your uc for the disability and carers elements

Sh!t the bed, that's confusing 🤣🤣 but you explained it amazingly and I actually understand it so well done you 🫡🤣
Would you personally recommend going for carers allowance base on that? You really know your stuff!!
Thanks so much xx

It confused me too until i actually did it 😂 I don’t think it really makes much difference if your on carers allowance or getting the carers element, I chose to go on carers allowance mostly because my child needs full time care and uc was going to call me in to start looking for work when my youngest child was 3 which wouldn’t have been possible. Also with my partner being self employed if he earnt to much one month I would still get my carers allowance every week regardless of his incomes.

I think this is what will happen with mine when I ring back on 25 weeks (this Friday) it happened with another mums claim last week and she had a decision within 3 or 4 days so hopefully your wait will be over soon xx

I'm so grateful for you experience to know what your going on about 😜 it think I will do both for the fact like you say, with the backdated bit, you get a little extra in the overlap bit ! And yes I'd have the same reason as you with the work coach thing although I do want to get back into work once she's in school but we will cross that bridge when we get to it. Xx
