DLA WAITING TIME THREAD 67

1000 replies

zoeybrooks45 · 25/03/2025 10:48

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.
New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?
Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.
Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.
If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)
Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.
If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.

I crammed in all my dc reports, hospital letters and personal statements, evidence of over night stays and treatments long term. I'm trying to keep optimistic about it but they get hundreds.
the lady I spoke with yesterday said they're working through a huge backlog as at what point in December they got 5000 claims in one day! 5000, my goodness. Can you imagine. And that's just one day, what about all the other days. So I presume they're still going through heaps of new claims etc that are all from months ago. And there's several posters on here waiting since October!
I'm just trying to remain positive as someone not long up in the thread said 15 weeks which is quite good. I got the form in mid Feb, but they scanned it April 1st, so I'm looking at mid September. Still have to then go through the process of uc disabled child element, carers allowance, carers element as well.
And she said that's if you get it. I said to her well this is a lifelong disease so she should really get it, and I'd be surprised if we are rejected or even given lower rate care.
Just hoping for the best outcome for everyone 💐

My son has a life long disease, was diagnosed a year ago and in that year he has had two pretty big operations relating to his disease and he got declined dla, my son will need several more operations in the near future and there are lots of other risks and problems that come with the disease itself, it’s heartbreaking to think of the struggles he faces daily and the challenges we need to face without this added stress. We’re are awaiting to hear back about his MR but I’m not hopefully, as a mummy I will have to find a way to cater for his needs, sacrificing other things if need be. Fingers crossed we get the right decision this time

Wow how do they get through thousands a day that must pile up . The waiting times are definitely getting longer .
September seems so for away , hopefully all your information helps you get a quicker decision.

Wow I'm sorry to hear this. I am so so so gutted on your behalf. I really hope the MR pulls through and you get it including a massive backdated payment. Terrible.
We were only diagnosed easier this year. But just been a horrid time for dc4. Basically since she was 1 we never knew what was going on. Finally got a diagnosis and hoping to get the dla as it will be really helpful in the long run and especially me being her full time carer.

Good luck and keep us all posted 🌹

My little one has just turned 3, we knew quite early on that something wasn’t right but his disease is so rare that it took quite a while for his diagnosis. Good luck to you too, I really hope you get the right decision for your little one 😊

Hey I’m wondering if anyone’s able give me some reassurance about the evidence iv sent for my sons first DLA claim. Iv sent multiple taf meeting plans which include information from all professionals including educational psychologists, his individual support plan, his regulation plan, paediatric report/assessment confirming sensory and sleep needs (prescribed melatonin) and his asd referral letter from children and family health. His nursery teacher also filled out a little paragraph on the application but unsure if they’ll definitely contact her? Will this be enough evidence for them to make a fair judgement? The forms were so daunting I’m worried I haven’t explained it well or got enough evidence. Thank youu

All I had that I could send with my claim was referrals. IDS, SALT and pre school autism assessment. Then a scoring system from the health visitor including a paragraph about my boy. Sounds like you’ve sent more than what we could send so interested to hear others responses

Iv tried to send everything I possibly can just to back up anything iv said, iv also sent about 7 extra pages of me probably just waffling😂 the sleep is a tricky one because that can’t really be proved but hoping because he’s been prescribed melatonin from his paediatrician that’ll kind of back that part up. I would honestly rather someone from DLA just come and live in my house for a week rather than try and explain it all! I’m only on week 13 and the not knowing is awful, really feel for the people already waiting 20+ weeks

100% get where you’re coming from. The health visitor luckily saw the he has no sense of danger so included that in her report which backs up all the other stuff he does at home. Then the sleep is really bad too wakes up 2-3 times a night and awake for around 1 and a half hours each time. It’s so daunting going to sleep knowing you’ll only get around an hour or 2 solid sleep. But reading some of the evidence others have sent on here it makes me extremely nervous that my boy won’t get what he’s entitled to.

Sounds like a really good piece of evidence from your health visitor! I really feel you with the sleep too my sons is so awful, would take hours to fall asleep and be up and down constantly and having to be supervised. Not unusual for him to wake up at 12am/2am or 3am and not sleep again until the night after. Makes the days so much harder when you’re constantly exhausted yourself. The melatonin has made him going to sleep an absolute breeze but he’s still awake for the first time 1/2 hours later. It’s making me nervous too that’s why I’m looking for a bit of reassurance on my evidence, would be awful to go through this whole process and have to do a mandatory reconsideration wouldn’t it!

Definitely! As much as I would fight it all the way to tribunal it’s just added stress that’s not needed at all! Yeah definitely a good bit of evidence. My son did that today. Woke up at 3am and won’t go sleep now until tonight. It’s exhausting when it happens so frequent

Daft question alert - how do I know the scan date for a new claim? Sent forms off special delivery and they arrived at DWP 13th December - will this be the scan date?

For my little girl all I had was a statement off her old nursery she got hrc I wouldn’t worry

Just a quick question, if you don’t get awarded mobility until child is 5, do they pre award if 5th birthday is within 4 months of them dealing with a COC claim or would I have I to apply again for mobility?

Mamto3boysX · 13/04/2025 11:54

Hi does anyone know if you claim carers allowance is the whole amount then deducted from universal credit? I have been claiming DLA for my son for 2 years now and never claimed it as someone had says it was pointless as it all gets deducted, is this true?. But when I've googled it, it says it is advised to claim it as it adds to pension points which I didn't realize x

Hello. They take the full amount off, however you can still claim carers element and get that backdated to the date of the dla award if successful. The carers allowance contributes to NI contributions I believe. So you can have both carers allowance and then also carers element on UC. Hope this helps.

MumMummyBroandSGOmum · 14/04/2025 11:30

n/c s/d 24/12 still waiting
the child on the claim is not biologically mine I have an SGO
mum disabled myself and get uc for 2/3 children (not including this child) and lcwra for myself atm I have a kinship payment that’s due to stop for Thai child. He is not yet added to my uc claim due to the rules. Do anyone know when I do add him what support I would be entitled to if his claim is successful

he is suspected ASD , SPD , foetal drug and alcohol and others linked to these things

we have I IEP , Opp , paeds report , specialist HV report and nursery obs , speech and language and play therapy …. I’m hoping we have enough for some sort of positive outcome. He is 2 so I know we wouldn’t qualify for the mobility part.

CherryFox25 · 14/04/2025 12:42

Hi all, my daughter was awarded MRC and LRC on Tuesday, do I need to wait for the letter before telling UC or can I do it now?
If so what do I do or write in my journal? From all the worrying about waiting for the decision for her claim I’m now panicking about what to do with UC
