DLA WAITING TIME THREAD 67

zoeybrooks45 · 25/03/2025 10:48

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.
New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?
Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.
Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.
If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)
Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.
If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.

Nc sd 30th December and already been awarded. I don’t think there is any set way they go through claims and I waited the full 20 or so weeks for my DD who was awarded last month. For anyone wondering this claim was for my nearly 3 year old who was diagnosed ASD and GDD at 2.5 so I had those reports, portage reports, preschool reports, SALT reports and a statement from his preschool. I know the wait is horrible.

My 2 year old has been referred to portage any helpful advice

Babylipswifey · 11/04/2025 16:52

When you do the change of circumstances on uc do you have to put anything on your journal I can’t do the carers as I’m disabled myself just the disabled child element

Mamto3boysX · 11/04/2025 17:21

Hi does anyone know if disabled child element would be back dated, as my son has been awarded the higher rate care from his renewal, I had a back payment from DLA as he went from middle care to high care. They paid me the difference from January this year up until now. Would universal credit back pay the remaining of the disabled child element from January? .. hope that makes sense lol x

candywoo · 11/04/2025 17:27

@Babylipswifey our portage worker was lovely. She came to the house once a fortnight and played games (tried anyway) with our son and suggested things to try out with him to improve his joint attention/eye contact/sleep/eating. I was very concerned for my son at the time and she was good support for me too. She listened to all my worries, bless her 🙈 I was in the mix of coming to terms with my son’s delays. She then made the referrals to SALT, paediatrician and OT and got him in preschool. It stopped once he started preschool but it was great for evidence aswell.

NC SD 11/12
Rang on Tuesday and told it wasn’t with a decision maker yet
My bank is now showing a pending payment from DWP of £2472.85
Too late for me to call now, has anyone got any idea what rate this is? As far as I know, i didn’t even attempt to get the mobility element and ticked that he didn’t have mobility issues.
Thanks xx

Congrats on the decision! That’ll be HRC for sure. Not sure about the mobility side of things though as we ticked the same as you. Mine is a NC SD 18/12 so hopefully not long for us now!

Thank you my little one is 2 and a bit (like 2 months) he doesn’t speak is violent (we have had to move him into his own room) sleeps relatively well for a couple of hours is possible deaf so he has already had a referral to pediatriton as he’s sob report shows he’s at a 10 month olds level he currently has a support worker and it her referred him to the portage could I also ask what is salt I see it a lot (I’m applying for dla for him and the support worker has wrote that he has no sense of danger or anything either and his hearing reports and sog report (more then I sent in with my daughter and she’s just been awarded high rate care so I’m hopeful for him )

Well, I've learnt something knew, didn't realise this element was worth more for the high rate of care!

I would assume this would be backdated if DLA have backdated it also? Once you have a letter from DLA about the back dated payments I would certainly add it to your journal!

My daughters renewal didn't get looked at until 3 days before it due to end, carers stopped an everything. What a shambles. I don't know why it says 15 weeks wait on the letter for nc if they say 25 weeks when u ring up. Its ridiculous

Ds renewal desision wasn't made until a week after his claim was due to end.
My others sons was a new claim and took 19 weeks.

Aww thanks makes sense they turned my boy away

StanleyParents · 11/04/2025 18:21

I've seen people saying there renewals havent been confirmed until a few days before claim ends and also that they've been done a few weeks before the claim was due to end, it's maddening, we are looking for an increase for both his care and mobility and this change is huge for us, we just need to know where we stand.

Planning on calling again Tuesday and then Thursday before the bank holidays and probably the following Thursday if there isn't a decision.

Hi I know I’ve just put in an appeal for my youngest, but also put in an appeal in Jan for my son and Dwp contacted me today to change their decision! So happy although they said he doesn’t qualify for mobility but I’m going to try gather evidence to hopefully get that added on at renewal in February!
fingers crossed they do the same for my daughter in a couple of months!

Yeah if your child gets high care rate the disabled child element is higher. I am going to put a message on my journal now x
