I get this, I do wonder if sometimes people let their emotions get in the way and feel the need to say your child won't be awarded because theirs wasn't IYSWIM

100% get what you mean. Because you’ll find the comments on their like “my child is xyz, but only receives lrm” there’s certain criteria’s for a reason, and my only advice is if they don’t change your child’s award and you believe they meet the criteria, take it all the way!

My son just been awarded mrc and low rate mobility was told over phone Xmas eve not received letter yet.

Just wondered if anyone knew how long it usually takes to receive back pay? I forgot to ask on the phone. 😅

Congratulations 🎉

I've just found this series of threads after a general Google of DLA waiting times.

I imagine our scan date (a new claim for DD) to be the last week in August, I ought to check.

I just googled as I've not heard anything apart from our confirmation of application letter back in September so thought I should check.

Seeing these threads which seem to be reaching full capacity of 1000 posts every few weeks, I'm wondering whether I've missed a memo: have I disadvantaged DD's claim process by not regularly contacting the DWP to request updates on the application? I just assumed they would get back to us once a decision had been made, or perhaps in order to request further details to inform their decision making, so I've not made any contact at all (bar submitting an additional report to be added to the evidence bundle 10 days after the original application was made). It's as if the long waiting times for anything clinical / SEND related have stretched my expectations for how long I'm prepared to wait to hear from agencies, and maybe I've just been too hands-off and trusting of the process in this instance, thinking they will get to our application in due course? I'm happy to continue to wait, but wonder whether I now ought to contact someone as that's what everyone else seems to be doing?

You're doing absolutely fine. I didn't contact DWP at all. My daughter was awarded after 19wks+1.
You're right, everything is such a long wait, I didn't think it was anything out of the ordinary...until it got past 16 weeks 🤣
So then these threads kept me going with these incredibly tenacious mums 💕 Seeing wait times increase is disheartening, but it's wonderful mums are sharing the knowledge. For me, phoning felt too anxiety inducing.

Feeling really annoyed this morning! I called a while ago to be told I would have a decision by 9th January which is the 20 week point for us. I understand this has now been extended to 25 weeks, however, I called on 18th December and was told it had been assigned to the DM and that’s good news that our claim was on track to be completed in that time frame. I’ve called this morning and been told “your claim hasn’t been looked at or assigned yet and I wouldn’t have expected it to be as it’s too early at this point” I told them I called on 18th December and was told it was with the decision maker so that seems really unfair that apparently now it isn’t?
has anyone else had this happen? what do I do about it? She said she would feed this back for me but I feel like I’ve been fed false information which is really unfair as I’ve had my hopes up all Christmas and now feeling really deflated and tearful. Goodness knows what I’ll do if we are declined….i don’t know if I have the fight in me!

It will be a good amount😂 and I already was in receipt of HRC and UC so I didn’t need to do anything on that part x

That's very much the same for me hadn't a clue about much my daughter is entitled to until I found this group and did some extensive research through nights im awake which is pretty much always

a true blessing as not many know things that children who are entitled to DLA should be receiving its a constant battle but this group i have nothing but utter respect and time for with finally finding a place to share relevant information that's helpful to our childreas wellbeing as not alot of places tell you anything

I migrated by force to UC in July but claim.started in April now told 4.4.24 therefore have to do mandatory reconsideration for difference with tax credits of higher disabled child element from 4.4.24 to beginning of UC and onto UC for backdate from beginning of claim in july till present due to difference between the rates of high disabled child element

Award DLA HRC higher child disability element UC= £487 per month

Award DLA MRC/LRC = £156.11 Child disability element UC per month

Make sure request backdate of child disability element to start of claim not the day you find out has to be what dla has backdated to via UC journal send reminders as they tend to ignore alot or call ot make complaint as @SKB12 stated

Award HRM = automatic blue badge entitlement
concession congestion charge £10 per year

Supporting evidence ie gp letter occupational therapist etc can support hidden disabilities affecting mobility VUW SMI severe anxiety panic attacks can apply without Award via non automatic route via your council for blue badge

Access tickets theatre goes plus 1 free companion apply to ATG directly
Lion king offer autism friendly packs like ear defenders and sensory fidget toys to help with environment triggers during the show ask ahead of the start of the show

CEA card for cinema goers 1 free carer ticket

Nimbus card recognised most places

Family fund grant every 2 years to help with needs or breaks ie butlins haven

Blue badge also aids restricted road permits for school roads etc via council application

HRM = exempt from car tax or can access mobility car scheme for all allowance

Carers element regardless of income I believe ask this to be backdated to start of DLA claim

Carers allowance depending on working hours/income if eligible ask for this to be backdated to start of DLA claim however works on £4£ basis but I believe contributes towards NI contributions check for verification

I don't claim these as my ill health means I receive LCRWA instead something I didn't know about until this year after being extremely ill with multiple health conditions since age of 14 and doing research myself

I can't even begin to explain the stress of this DLA claim on top of so many other things going on but please keep fighting for your babies and don't let them fob you off involve MP if necessary
We are all here to pick you up and keep you going till your fight is over

Hope this information is useful to someone not sure if iv missed some things but it's very supportive

Now on to the next fight the housing until I have to pursue DLA for my other 2 living ASD children
1 angel 14 year old child (ASD)
3 ASD living children
( 1 now claiming DLA
1 on pathway
1 awaiting referral wish to.wait till he's 2 or 3)
2 neurotypical living children

Sorry for the essay hope can help someone out x

This is incredibly helpful thank you! 💕

I’ve seen they’ve been doing this to a lot of people! You can make a complain about it, or ask to talk to someone higher up to discuss it with them. The wait times for DLA are affecting a lot of people’s mental health and it makes it 100x worse being told false information all the time! Good luck and I hope you hear soon x

I was on hold for half hour and got told that when I got through. Do you think k should call back later and ask to speak to someone about that? I don’t feel like I should jump the queue but I do feel like that should honour what they’ve told me and send it to the DM.
they’ve now told me to call again in 3 weeks to check 😭 if it’s now with DM then they can get it assigned. Just really disappointed that they’ve told me on 18th it was and now apparently it isn’t.

I just had the same thing happen to me, same can date as you too, I phoned 20/12 to be told it’s with DM and will hear shortly so I phoned today for an update to be told it isn’t with a DM and to wait 25 weeks! I think they say what ever they want to get us off the phone

@SKB12 got my child’s award letter through the post. Turns out he wasn’t awarded under SMI but actually under VUW. I’m pretty sure the lady on the phone said SMI route. Not bothered either way as he kept the award length and got the rightful award, but crazy cause he does meet the SMI x

Oh wow I assumed it was SMI too. I don’t know what my son has qualified under. He’s 13 so length of award will only be until he turns 16 I’m guessing before he switches to PIP. Hoping it’s not much longer until we get our letter, I’ll let you know what it says. x

You’re best bet is to call back and ask to be put through to someone higher up or even a decision maker. Say you want to discuss the false information that they have gave you, and if they still try brush it off say you want to make a formal complaint. They are notorious for it!

Honestly I wouldn’t pay too much attention to it. I called on 23/12 and was told it wasn’t assigned and asked for a call back from a DM to discuss an issue with our scan date. The call never came, I rang on 24/12 to chase up why I hadn’t got a call only to be told a decision had been made that morning. It can literally change within a day and even the same day.

Oh wow! Same scan date and same false information! I’m going to call back later today and ask to speak to someone about it because it’s really unfair that they would do this. It’s a stressful enough time as it is! It’s like they don’t think the stresses of daily life with a disabled child is enough!

Yeh I was quite shocked. But I knew he fit the VUW criteria aswell due to refusal to walk. I put that in my letter too. Either way glad he was awarded. And you’ll have it soon I reckon. Yes, when I made a complaint I knew the call handlers name and gave them the time of the call. Some of them aren’t keen on putting you through to a DM so you need to stress that you’ve been misinformed and want to speak to a DM to discuss. They are the ones that can tell you for a fact if it’s been assigned. Good luck

Oh no! I’ve never been so happy to see letters drop through even if they turn out to be bills instead of DLA letter 😂 my son refuses too or walks off and refuses to come back or just won’t leave the house. He doesn’t seem to have particularly enjoyed Christmas which he usually does so that’s a shame too
