Hi,

Does anyone know if universal credit back date the child disability element from when you first called dla for the claim form (which dla too will back date) or does uc child disability element start from the date dla make the award?

Thank you

From what I got told, I think you need to put June. I put the wrong date and they told me, but I'm assuming they don't correct everyone xx

Sorry wrong person!! Never used this before 😫

Hi , I didn't know about the disabled child element either , I put in the date I got the letter I've been awarded which was Nov 2023 but I had applied in June and that's what they paid me from. So which one should I have put in ?

Sorry I accidentally replied to you on someone else's post. I'm useless with this kind of thing.
From what I was told by UC, you should put June xx

Hi. Has anyone has experience with how much backpack they give.
My son has been getting dla since 2021, UC was aware of his DLA when I called and asked about careers element, but no one told me about disabled child element. Would I get backpack that far back,
Thanks in advance. X

Edited

Have you heard anything back? I'm in same situation. Mine dates back to 2022, so I updated the change from that date but unaware if they'll backdate that far xx

I'm still waiting for back pay. Informed on 27/3. Recieved a message on 4/4 after many messages sent and finally a threat of complaint at the lack of communication. April's pay was updated and payment recieved.
Had heard nothing for a while so I started messaging again and heard nothing. Got same message again yesterday (still with DM and cannot give timeframe but should get a message on journal in due course). 5 weeks tomorrow.

Ask for it to be escalated my case manager has stated they can escalate it once it’s been 4 weeks with a decision maker x

@Bash1988 How are you getting on? I received confirmation I’ll be getting back pay carers today after calling yesterday. Unfortunately its another mandatory reconsideration same as disabled because i dont agree with the amount.

for anyone who has not had a response in more than 2 weeks just call them. Theyll put a note in the journal for you with a deadline for response. Everytime ive called and said ive been messaging the journal and not getting anywhere, its been moved forward within 48 hours. Good luck everyone!

Kaz87 · 30/04/2024 15:46

That’s great news. I put a complaint in two days ago but haven’t heard a thing. If I don’t hear anything tomorrow I’ll try calling. Hopefully yours all gets sorted soon and I’m glad to hear you got some answers

TheSnappyTurtle · 30/04/2024 16:04

Another update - ive just had a call from DWP after my complaint from this thread on 19/04/2024. Theyve submitted for the money and I’ll be paid on thursday.

the mandatory reconsideration needs to go to a request to tax credits and appeal if they dont comply. For half of my DLA award i was on tax credits and got my letter to convert over so its made things complicated. For the normal situation that most are in on this thread it took 35 days from change of circumstance to receiving both disabled element and carers element back pay.

katiewil · 30/04/2024 19:10

I phoned today as it's been 3 weeks and I haven't heard anything
He said my request went to DM 11/04 and can't give me a time frame
He did say that he doesn't know any cases that go past 8 weeks? So hopefully it won't be that long left!

Alfsnan84 · 01/05/2024 11:34

Have just received a letter in my journal saying they will backdate disabled child and carers element, took 21 days from going to the decision maker, letter states how much will be paid, but doesn't state when.

Hi I was just informed that my chikd has been verified and work couch asked me for the reason in late applying for Disabled child element so I have put that I had to wait nearly 16 weeks for dla decision to award my daughter and 2 weeks for the forms to arrive - is that a good reason for back pay?

Yeah that’s what I said the reasons more than valid it’s another long wait for the desision maker mind x

AlexandraJane584 · 02/05/2024 00:57

I asked about backpay on the 21st of March and my case manager put it to the decision maker on the 21st of March. I recieved the decision letter on the 19th of April and I'm still waiting almost 2 weeks later for the second letter to say how much is owed and when it will be paid, I've messaged on my journal several times with no reply at all for the past 2 weeks and I even rung up asking for help but the lady on the phone basically said she couldn't help me. Not sure what to do about this.. so frustrating!!

I’m 1 week and 3 days into waiting for decision maker so hopefully not much longer and bet u glad to finally be fully sorted with it all xx

MoosMa22 · 02/05/2024 16:40

Had a call today from DWP as I complained about the lack of communication on my journal. She said their understaffed and replying to messages from 2wks ago! My next statement date is 19th May and she said this is how long the decision makers have to make a decision and reply to me. She said she's never had someone that's owed nearly 2yr of back payments and that it's really common that no one knows about changing your circumstances when your awarded DLA or the rate change. I said if its that common then perhaps it should be flagged up in a letter when others are awarded DLA etc. If this is such a common issue, why aren't they making people aware!? Crazy xx
