Hi All,

I have been reading previous threads related to this which all seem to be full so apologies if this is wrong (Im new). Applied for DLA for my 18month old son, scan date was 11/04 and had letter saying upto 15 weeks for a decision. Question is, i received a 2nd letter from DWP asking for my sons original birth certificate to be sent in and it would be sent back immediately. Has anybody else had this?

Thanks

Payment takes 3-5 days so you may get the money in your account by next Friday 🙂🙂

Hi I have a scan date of 21st March and I haven’t heard anything yet. Also super-anxious, I keep having dreams/nightmares about it!!

My scan date is 20th March and I phoned yesterday they said it’s now taking 16-18 weeks 😩 my anxiety can’t cope! X

Catsandcupcakes · 27/06/2023 19:40

Hey hun...I know it is insane how long it takes I didn't realise it would make me so anxious. I am on the verge of obsessing about it now. I really hope you hear something soon.

Catsandcupcakes · 27/06/2023 19:43

Btw sorry new here and have no idea how to tag others posts yet😅

Lo89 · 27/06/2023 20:04

@Catsandcupcakes the wait is so bad when I applied they told be 13 week wait so I should've heard by this week but now looking like people are hearing at 15-16 weeks 😩 another 3 weeks for me. I'll honestly be gutted if she doesn't get awarded

I know I sent off for both my boys at the same time. I didn't even realise there was a chance they could get it until I was told. I will be gutted if they don't get the extra help for them after this anxiety ridden wait... It feels like it's been forever now. I hope you and everyone else eventually gets what their children deserve 🙏.

Also, remember that anyone who is found to have been eligible for a disability benefit, including DLA, on 1st April 2023 should also receive an £150 one off cost of living payment. So if our March claims are successful they will be backdated and we will become eligible for that £150 also 🤞

Lo89 · 27/06/2023 21:28

@Pippisqueak thanks for the information I hadn't even thought of that. I guess you would have to raise a query with UC for the cost of living payment as well as the backdated disability they pay too

The cost of living payment for people on disability benefits should be paid automatically into the bank account the disability benefit is paid into - it doesn’t matter if you are on UC or not. The other cost of living payment (£350?) relates to means tested benefits so you need to be on UC (or other means tested benefit) for that. But the £150 is specifically for people of PIP/DLA/Attendance Allowance

Pippisqueak · 27/06/2023 21:49

Also, I think this has been mentioned already on this thread somewhere (I’m new, but had a quick scan through older messages!) - if you get awarded DLA and don’t currently claim UC it is worth checking if you may now be entitled to UC. Both because you may get an additional for a disabled child, but also a carer element, which may mean you become eligible for UC for the first time

Lo89 · 27/06/2023 21:58

@Pippisqueak thanks it's good to know I didn't realise if awarded how many potential support options it can open up ☺️

Does anyone know if the wait times in Northern Ireland are as long as England ect? Or is it all the same

Ch86 · 28/06/2023 08:14

Hi I'm so glad I've found this thread, I sent the forms off and evidence to support on the 22nd of May and they received them 24th May so I think my scan date is 24th which makes it 5 weeks today. Iknow were in for a long haul here after reading these comments. I just wanted to post so I could hopefully find someone with roughly the same scan day as us and keep in touch here following the journey. I'm so happy for the ones who have received the answer and support they need and deserve. It's an awful anxious time the waiting isn't it!? 😅

Dad2008 · 28/06/2023 08:22

Hi have heard on a other thread waiting times in Northern Ireland are a bit quicker about 2wks than England my scan date was 14th March so hopefully I hear something this week av give up trying the phone line good luck to you all waiting let's hope are children get the support thay need .

Sarah1110 · 28/06/2023 08:25

Pauldavo · 28/06/2023 09:37

my scan date is also 20th march. I’m going to ring them up next Tuesday where it would be just after week 15. It’s just ridiculous isn’t it x

Yes because I’ve seen some people from 14th match scan date get accepted so I don’t get how the 20th can not be until end of July. It’s been 14 and a half weeks for us and it says online it’s 12 week wait but when I phoned them they said 16-18 which is the end of July so I’m not sure hoping it will be quicker maybe 10th July but I’m not holding onto much hope 🤯 as soon as I hear anything I will let you know! I was going to phone them today but I just thought no I’ll leave it until 15 weeks next week and try then Xx

Oh good grief that is ridiculous... That's 19 weeks then! What are they doing (or not doing) for them to be so far past the 12 weak guidelines. It's really not fair on everyone waiting 😭.

I’m hoping that they are exaggerating the wait time in order to manage expectations - then if it comes through at 15/16 weeks we are pleasantly surprised!🤷‍♀️
