DLA Wait Times 2023 (Part 10)

Hi All,

I have been reading previous threads related to this which all seem to be full so apologies if this is wrong (Im new). Applied for DLA for my 18month old son, scan date was 11/04 and had letter saying upto 15 weeks for a decision. Question is, i received a 2nd letter from DWP asking for my sons original birth certificate to be sent in and it would be sent back immediately. Has anybody else had this?

Has anyone who has been awarded recently heard back about the DLA cost of living payment x

I was awarded last Tuesday I sent the DLA missing cost of living payment off the same day and I haven’t heard anything yet x

I done the same sent it off the same day aS award last Wednesday. Got my back pay yesterday. I think it said they will let us know within 2 weeks didnt they x

Should be in the next week then? Do you think the payment will just go in and we’ll get a letter or do you think we will get the letter first?
also did you apply for the carers element? I applied for that last Tuesday too but not sure how long that takes xx

Got the text I've been waiting for today to say my child qualifies for dla!

Carers allowance take about 3 weeks and it all gets back dated to the date you have been awarded dla from. Hope this helps.

Do we have to apply for the £150 payment? Doesn’t it happen automatically?

I got my back pay last Thursday for DLA I told uc on Monday and asked about the carers element the lady told me to make a change on my journal so I did then on Tuesday got a letter on my journal of the DM explaining they had accepted it and I’ve been awarded carers element and disability child element from feb and I’m getting back paid tomorow for £1500 .

when u do it make sure you right on your journal you want it back dating other wise they won’t do it . Good luck xx

You have to go onto the gov website click on disability cost of living payment and report it as a missing payment just put your child’s name in ref number from the letters you have and they should back pay it as u applied before the cut off date x

Hopefully 🤞. So this is what I’m confused about. I already receive DLA for one of my other sons so I already claim carers allowance for him so I don’t know if I need to let them know about my other son’s diagnosis it’s all so confusing and overwhelming x

I’ve just updated my journal now. I did update the change of circumstances on Tuesday last week but not heard anything just just wrote that in my journal fingers crossed! Thanks so much xx

You can only claim carees allowance once even if u have more children on DLA

@Mumoftwobeautys hi I get dla now for my youngest when he was awarded I got the carers element and disability element on my uc. But I didn't no about carers allowance a good 2 months in off being awarded the DLa so when I applied for it I got it but they take the carers element off your uc and take the carers allowance off as a deduction on ur over all payments each month

So are you loosin much ? They give you it back for the UC they take off us £1 for £1 so even though your UC is down you get it back just under CA … and it also contributes towards your NI xx

@Mumoftwobeautys I'm not down no cos carers element is £169 so and carees allowance is 307. I'm not sure how it's worked out
I've just tried calling them about my other sons claim and was on hold 1 hour 20 mins finally answered gave reference number and name then the fucking line cut off. They don't even attempt to even call you back.
I'm not calling again now just going to wait because I'm 14 weeks today and ringing them winds me up even more when the phone goes dead flipping nightmare.

@barelyfunctional I had a call that went straight to voicemail today I must've been out of service area so annoying. No one spoke and I haven't had a text so annoying I think may have been them trying to call.

Do they call on private number?

Got through after almost 2 hours on hold. Declined. It’s taken over 17 weeks for them to let me know. Now I’ve got to start all over again, if it’s even worth it.. I don’t know. My son has Autism, severe anxiety, he’s on meds now for it, he can’t attend school and can’t be with it me at all, so I had to leave work and have been home for 4 yrs with him. He has EOTAS now. I didn’t even know about dla til another parent told me last year. And they said no so I’m not sure what to do.
