Hi all,
Just following on from the previous thread - apologies if anyone else has already started one.
Sent our renewal claim in, scan date middle of May.
Phoned on Thursday and was told that our claim had been renewed on 18 August, awarded the same as previous - HRC and LRM. Such a relief for it to be all sorted out.

Hi ladies,

I put a claim in for my 3 year old son. Sent 11/07, scanned 15/07. Does anyone know what they're working on now? I called last week and was told they were working on 16/06 claims and to expect another 2-3 weeks wait. It's only been about 9 weeks since scanned so I'm bracing myself for it to be longer than they tell me!

I've heard they are working up to 21st this week but some with a 22nd date have had decisions. I think it depends on who looks at it x

Hi everyone,

I phoned today to find out DS's award. He has been awarded LRC, but no mobility. I'm grateful that he has been awarded because I know so many people get rejected and then have to appeal. I've thought about it this morning, and I think I should do mandatory reconsideration. I believe he should at the very least get LRM, and possibly MRC.

DS is 8 and he is diagnosed with ASD and also has suspected ADHD, which is is currently waiting for an assessment for. DS has no issues walking, but its behaviourally where the difficulties are. DS cannot walk next to anyone at their pace, he constantly runs, jumps, skips, leaps over obstacles, flails around. This leads to him hurting himself a lot. He has no awareness of dangers like the road or bumping into people or things... He needs to be constantly told to walk, or I have to physically hold his hand (whilst he tries his best to resist). He also cannot follow instructions as he just seems to 'forget' what you have said, so he can't follow directions or navigate around somewhere without an adults help. He has no stranger danger, would happily chat to and play with random adults at parks for example. So I think it's a bit strange he didn't get mobility, it's almost as though they just saw the tick boxes (can walk over 200m in less than a minute) but didn't actually read what I'd put...

What do you guys think?

To get high rate your child has to wake up during the night and wonder/be a danger to them self. I really do believe it’s how the form is filled. I would do it and send more info in from yourself in details. I sent 8 full a4 pages based on the way he was xxx

LisaGog · 14/09/2022 14:44

@Lynseyb91 Oh no, sorry, I don't mean I think he's entitled to high rate. It's because all he's been awarded is LRC, and no mobility. His mobility needs make up a lot of his care in my opinion, he is very difficult to control when out of the house. For example, he is the only child on the school run who runs ahead of me, skipping, dancing, twirling, not being aware of his surroundings and bumping into people and things, going dangerously close to the road etc. He needs constant reminders not to run, be careful, stay away from the road, in the end I have to 'restrain' him by holding his hand constantly (he's almost 8)! But he's been straight refused for any mobility x

LisaGog · 14/09/2022 14:48

I've never applied for DLA before so I'm not sure what constitutes mobility needs, but he definitely fits 'It is for children who can walk but who need extra guidance or supervision on unfamiliar routes outdoors.'

the only thing I written relating to mobility was my son drags his feet and he gets overwhelmed by the noise around him and has been known to run into the road with traffic going past etc. i didn’t put nothing about strangers, he is aware not to talk to them so I didn’t mention that xx

LisaGog · 14/09/2022 14:53

@Lynseyb91 Ah okay, thank you. My DS is very socially naive and thinks if people are kind to him then they must be nice people. We've talked to him about stranger danger but he doesn't really 'get' it. I think I might do reconsideration x
