Uno ds is the same, thinks we don’t like him if we are cross with him, I reassure him the same way. I’m glad things turned around in the end.

dimples how lovely to see your db again. Glad you had a good time at the activity farm.

Ahna65 · 22/12/2022 07:46

Aah loving reading all the festive activities. Last office day for me today, starting to feel festive. Also not a terrible night last night so might actually get some work done! The previous was awful, up for the day from 245. Doctor advised us not to give melatonin in middle of night as thinks it could disrupt rhythm even more so we feel a bit stuck with it all. But Xmas period will offer more opportunities for daytime rest I guess

don’t think DD has any idea about Xmas but she does enjoy rubbing her face on the different textures of the tree and decorations. Breakable baubles are clustered around the top only! She’s very tactile at the moment, big on touching my face / skin on skin. Which is quite nice (less nice at 2am)

Booked into a Xmas eve display with sort of vintage Xmas scenes, snowy mountains etc. Thought DD would have no attention for it but at the Xmas market she was fixated by the trains and carousels at a similar display. So we will try! DD2 will love it anyway and need to think of her in plans too.

livpotter · 22/12/2022 10:29

Baileys and Gremlins sounds like the perfect evening open!

That's so lovely dimples!

Uno sorry about the tricky evening. If it makes you feel any better I did pretty much exactly the same with ds last night. What is quite funny though is now dd will write me a letters explaining what I need to do to behave better. It get slid under my bedroom door so that I can read it before bed Grin!

Ahna glad you had a slightly better night.

Light hope the car works! All our stuff seems to break this time of the year. So far the boiler, the toilet and the roof! The car had a warning light but thankfully it just needed to have the tyres pumped up!

We're ok, but ds is definitely quite high octane at the moment. Hoping it won't all be too much having family to stay.

openupmyeagereyes · 22/12/2022 10:56

liv that’s adorable 🥰

Ds also quite happy to correct my parenting and he’s not always wrong!

openupmyeagereyes · 22/12/2022 10:56

I hope I’m quite good at apologising and repairing. I try anyway.

danni0509 · 22/12/2022 18:39

Hi. I thought I’d pop on quick whilst my ds has wound his neck in for 5 mins 🤣

His adhd is on steroids this week, I’m knackered!

How is everyone?

if I don’t get on before, have a lovely Xmas all xx

Ds is going for breakfast with Santa in the morning, not sure he’ll eat much but he’s looking forward to the grotto and the present he gets.

openupmyeagereyes · 22/12/2022 18:45

Good to hear from you danni, I hope you both enjoy breakfast with Santa.

We had a great time seeing Santa today. Ds did so much more than he has done previously when he’s been a bit too overwhelmed or scared.

I hope everyone had a good day.

UnoQueenie · 22/12/2022 18:48

Hi @danni0509 ! Hope DS enjoys santa. We're going tomorrow to a local garden centre christmas event. Had a nice day here, went to McDonald's and had a walk out.

danni0509 · 22/12/2022 18:52

Regarding his adhd, I think his medication needs increasing, he doesn’t have an appointment until March so I’ll contact after Xmas, see if he settles down a bit first, I know they all get a bit silly before Xmas with excitement but he’s been OTT again for the past month, (it never went away in the first place, but he definitely chilled a bit)

he’s just being really silly, lots of loud noises, jumping down the stairs (from 3/4 of the way up, he’s going to end up with 2 broken legs) he’s nuts, jumping off the sofa every 2 mins, non stop movement, impulsive behaviour all the time, biting chunks out of the bar of soap in the bath, chucking buttered toast at the walls so it sticks to the wall, ate a car air freshener earlier chewed it up and swallowed it all 😳😂 just really draining behaviour lol. I wouldn’t be so bothered but it’s 15 / 16 hours a day of it.

I went to the gym this morning for an hour and did the Xmas food shop straight after and left him with dh. Perk of dh not working at the minute I can escape for an hour.

danni0509 · 22/12/2022 18:55

He’s much better with dh now, bcos he’s always worked silly hours he’s never really had to look after ds, he’s been off work 6 months now so they’ve got a much better relationship. Which is nice.

dimples76 · 22/12/2022 19:53

Lovely to read of your Christmas activities.

Wow written instructions, Liv!

Danni great to hear how your DS and DH's relationship is developing. DS also keeps jumping down stairs at the moment. He did it today when we were out in town down some concrete stairs and seemed baffled by my reaction.

We went to see Matilda today at the cinema. DS likes the music but I worried that the storyline might be a bit triggering (for an adopted child). However, he absolutely loved it, gave me a hug and was an absolute pleasure to be with ..until the stair jumping

Jules912 · 22/12/2022 21:59

We also saw Matilda today. Was worried DD would find it too scary, but she was fine apart from finding some bits a bit loud.
We went ice skating yesterday which everyone seemed to enjoy, and I managed not to fall over! We followed it up with a festive light trail, which was nice but think they were both getting a bit tired by that point.

Ahna65 · 23/12/2022 10:13

Matilda sounds great and @dimples76 great you had a great time together

Loving all the Santa visits, sounds like he's pretty busy this year ;)

We had a bad night (1130-330 awake, then 5). But this time she seems to be ill, really high fever. Hope it passes soon, she is super fever prone so it is hopefully just something quite minor. I do worry about her a lot when she's ill though. Some people talk about a 'fever effect' where autistic kids can kinda flourish more / communicate more when they have a fever? With us it's defintiely the opposite, a mini regression each time

Trying to get out the last bits of work so I can maybe have a nap before DD2 gets home. Got an office wide email saying we can log off at 4pm - umm yeah was def planning on doing that anyway ! Netherlands really not big on Xmas ! Monday not even a bank holiday (I've booked it off of course)

Jules912 · 23/12/2022 13:41

Had a truly awful morning with DD and ended up snapping at her. Was feeling bad enough then she came for a cuddle and I realised she was really warm and actually ill.
@Ahna65 sorry your DD is poorly too, and anyone else with poorly LOs. hopefully they'll be better for Christmas.

Ahna65 · 23/12/2022 15:22

Ohh @Jules912 hope yours is better soon too. Mine has 40+ fever, not out the ordinary for her but always a big worry and don’t like the feeling of the doctors being shut for the weekend etc. Just hope paracetamol does the job.

openupmyeagereyes · 23/12/2022 22:12

Hope poorly dc are all better soon.

dimples76 · 23/12/2022 22:43

Yes, get well soon.

carriebradshawwithlessshoes · 24/12/2022 21:00

Just a quickie from me to wish you all a very happy Christmas!!!! Hope you and your families have a lovely day and look forward to catching up soon!!!! 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄

dimples76 · 24/12/2022 21:58

Merry Christmas to you all!

Jules912 · 24/12/2022 21:59

Merry Christmas everyone!

openupmyeagereyes · 24/12/2022 23:15

Merry Christmas everyone. You’re all amazing! Wine

Ahna65 · 25/12/2022 08:09

wishing you wonderful days with your DCs / families. You deserve it! So glad to have found this thread a few months back now, it’s helped me a ton.

Happy Xmas !!

livpotter · 25/12/2022 11:58

Happy Christmas! Not sure what I'd do without you all!

UnoQueenie · 27/12/2022 17:29

Happy Christmas everyone! We had a lovely chilled out Xmas day but then yesterday tricky with us all being grumpy. Turns out we have a bug again, I've been in bed most of the day, while DH meanwhile has decided to start redecorating! It's not covid according to the test but feels like it. Urgh. I really struggle with this bit between Xmas and nye, it's like everything just stops and I can't get on with anything, but I want to once I feel better. We are due to go away for a few days the day after next, so looking forward to that.

carriebradshawwithlessshoes · 27/12/2022 19:14

Not good here. We had a work event on Thurs, DH asked me not to go as it was in busy bars etc and he said I would pick up something and ruin Xmas. I told him not to be ridiculous. As you know we were hosting. Anyway I went, great fun and so on, was feeling festive until Xmas eve when woke up feeling like death. DH livid (tbf prob did pick it up there, we were all on top of each other in a small hot bar.)

Felt ghastly on Xmas day and DS just awful. As per last year just seemed really unsettled, unhappy, tantrums etc, not really like him. So felt ghastly and was trying to deal with him plus cook for 10! Once everyone had gone I just sat and cried in the bathroom!

managed to get dr appt today and have chest infection, feel really rubbish and DS totally hyper. Have done some research and apparently coming off anti seizure meds can create massive personality changes (short term) so who knows? Poss that, poss he’s not feeling well either, I don’t know. It’s not like he can tell me.
