I have received the I'm sorry we haven't given you a decision letter today.

May be a silly question but does anyone know roughly how long after getting that letter you receive a decision? I'm still holding off calling. I'm genuinely worried how life will be able to continue like this without any support. It's getting harder and coming off the back of some bad news last night that will likely affect us for the new few months at least, an unsuccessful claim will be a massive blow right now

NoWordForFluffy · 23/04/2022 10:12

I'm still waiting for the letter acknowledging the claim. I'm trying to be patient, given I know it was signed for, and we've had two BHs delaying post. I should probably ring on Monday to check all is OK.

Needanewadventure2021 · 23/04/2022 10:28

@NoWordForFluffy as long as you know it's signed for try not to worry. I was expecting a few days delay in getting the claim set up but the date it was received is the date the claim starts from.

I cant believe it's been nearly 8 weeks already since mine was sent off. I suppose I've been lucky in the sense that that time has been so busy it has flown. But when you really think about it it's not quick enough to get a decision.

It's taken me years to make a claim for DLA despite knowing in my heart things aren't right. I've battled with guilt, questioned if others deserve it more than my child. I've experienced the ongoing battle trying to get support in place and I suppose it's made me question if him being awarded DLA will be just as hard? I've also waited on the advice of professionals telling me he 'may' grow out of it. I regret now my delay because I worry that I have assisted my child in falling behind and struggling. Things never got better. They have got increasingly worse. Now life is hard work. And I know if I dont do something now I am setting us both up for a very difficult future. The thought of my child having a difficult childhood breaks my heart.

I'm also starting to worry abit if they need to call me for more information. I'm happy to give it but I work Monday to Friday 8am to 4.30pm and am unable to make or take calls. I get a small lunch break but the hold times stated on here far exceed my lunch break. Hopefully they are still open outside my work hours if more information is required. Does everyone receive a call requesting for more information? What kind of things are you asked?

Ltb17 · 23/04/2022 10:46

@Needanewadventure2021 I never received a call when I done my sons initial claim, they also never called his school or gp, I never actually had any contact from them until the day I received a text saying he qualified.

Needanewadventure2021 · 23/04/2022 10:51

Thank you for this information. Does your child have a diagnosis or stuff already in place support wise before making your claim @Ltb17

Ltb17 · 23/04/2022 10:55

@Needanewadventure2021 when I done his application he had been accepted on the pathway for a diagnosis, I sent a letter from his school and his paediatric report stating she would say verbally he has autism and global development delay. That was all that was in place at the time, no speech and language had started, no echp had even been started yet. He had nothing apart from the 2 letters and the info I put on the form. He was awarded hrc and we were honestly really shocked because we felt we had such little information.

Needanewadventure2021 · 23/04/2022 10:58

Thank you @Ltb17 the limited information is what worries me. I sent SENCO details from his school, medical diagnoses, medical appointments, medical records, referalls to CAMHs. His OT referall came after my claim was made but I called them to say the SENCO has agreed she is happy to speak to them if they require.

Ltb17 · 23/04/2022 11:06

@Needanewadventure2021 I think you'll be fine tbh you've sent a lot more than I did. My son has only just had his referrals for OT done and his echp has only just started to be done too. We are currently waiting for a change of circumstances because his paed has said he should be getting some kind of mobility so they sent a report for us to go with that. How long have you been waiting?

Which day did you post it?

Needanewadventure2021 · 23/04/2022 11:12

It will be 8 weeks exactly on Monday @Ltb17 how long did it take for your child to be awarded?
Hopefully your change in circumstances is successful very soon. Did you not get mobility at all? Did they give reasons?

Ltb17 · 23/04/2022 11:15

@Needanewadventure2021 it was 1 day short of 9 weeks for me but this was back in October. At the time he was 4 so too young for Lrm which is another reason for the change of circumstances, my paed said Stephen in his opinion he should be getting hrm but I didn't put enough info on his original claim to warrant it being awarded. I've been waiting almost 19 weeks now for his change of circumstances. Hopefully you shouldn't be waiting too much longer.

Needanewadventure2021 · 23/04/2022 11:18

Oh 19 weeks. Waiting that long must be awful @Ltb17 I will keep my fingers crossed you get a decision soon. By the sounds of it though I think you will be successful as your son's paediatric report confirms a need for it. Good luck

Clairewright010 · 23/04/2022 12:49

@Momof2soonmomto3 have you had any updates lovely? Only popped on to see if you had heard yet? Xxx

Robinni · 23/04/2022 13:37

From the point form was ordered 9 1/2 wks.
Took the full 6 wks to fill it in and gather reports.
Received award letter 3 1/2 wks from the point they received DS form.

doadeer · 23/04/2022 11:11

Which day did you post it?

It was signed for on 12 April.

I had very little official info to send, as it's been a nightmare getting help from anywhere. I literally sent his ASD diagnosis and report, a letter from his grandparents and copious notes answering the questions. I have nothing else official! So we shall see.

doadeer · 23/04/2022 13:45

I posted on 12th April - haven't received any confirmation, is that a letter or a text? I find the process very manual

NoWordForFluffy · 23/04/2022 13:52

Apparently a letter. It is very old-fashioned, isn't it? Weird.

doadeer · 23/04/2022 13:59

A friend gave a good tip to.photocopy the booklet, I had to go to the mailshop and do it page by page - took ages! So used to everything being online!

Is 2 weeks a long time to wait for the acknowledgement?

NoWordForFluffy · 23/04/2022 13:59

Oh, the acknowledgment letter has arrived while I've been out this morning! Says to call if I haven't heard in 8 weeks (so 6 weeks on Tuesday).

NoWordForFluffy · 23/04/2022 14:11

I photocopied it. Luckily our printer does it.

FishFingerSandwiches4Tea · 23/04/2022 15:24

@NoWordForFluffy my forms were received 7th April and I've still heard nothing, not even acknowledgement. I know they were received as sent recorded delivery. From the fb page though it would seem its not uncommon to hear nothing until you get a text confirming your child is eligible 🤷‍♀️

NoWordForFluffy · 23/04/2022 15:26

It's all very random, isn't it?!

NoWordForFluffy · 23/04/2022 15:27

What's the Facebook page called?

FishFingerSandwiches4Tea · 24/04/2022 05:08

@NoWordForFluffy 'DLA for children advice and support' is the fb group

NoWordForFluffy · 24/04/2022 07:40

Thank you, @FishFingerSandwiches4Tea.
