Anyone in Scotland making a new application? DLA/Child Disability Payment?

Hi everyone.

Not seeing much at all on support forums about the new Scottish child disability payment and wondered if anyone on here has recent experience of applying for the CDP in Scotland?

Afaik, all new applications from Scotland now need to go to Social Security instead of DWP and this has been in place since November 2021.

I made my child’s application at the start of the year about 7 weeks ago. Called today to ask for an update and was told it was with a case manager and I’ll be notified by letter once a decision has been made.

Apparently this new system is supposed to be faster and fairer than DLA? All current recipients of DLA living in Scotland should be getting moved over to CDP over the next year according to their website.

Anyway, if anyone has recently applied, I’m wondering how long it took all in for a decision to be reached?

Thanks.

@RogelM , @Polly421 I just wished I never chased on line there as it's left on a cliff hanger🤔The Case Manager has closed the application however the Client advisor has said he cannot give me any updates on the decision as he can't see it just that the application has been closed and the Case Manager is off line untill tomorrow and I will say its a different Case Manager to the one that called the other day. Anxiety overload for the night untill the Case Manager calls tomorrow to explain what is happening but the client advisor tried to assure me that it could be the process as when a Case Manager has finished working on the application with a decision it then goes to another Manager to authorise the decision or decide against thier decision, so I suppose like a 2 point checking system to makesure they have a fair outcome. He also said it's pretty quick at this point of the process. I think they are sick of me asking for updates lol I think you should write a complaint referring to the fact it has been assigned to a Case Manager but sitting awaiting it's turn and quote the time scales failure, you have waited a long time and it wouldn't be unreasonable to ask that they start working on your application.

I had a missed call earlier from social security Scotland, I've called them and a case manager will call me back again as they were wanting more information on sleeping/night time habits. Can anyone advise on how quick the process goes from here?

Polly421 · 27/06/2022 15:31

@Rm1983 after I spoke to case manager and sent in additional information he wanted, I was a couple of days and decision was made. So hopefully it’s not too much longer for your decisions.

Rm1983 · 27/06/2022 15:55

That's great thank you for that. He said case manager would call back some time before the end of week so kicking myself I missed the call, but reassuring it's coming to an end.

chase12 · 27/06/2022 21:14

@Rm1983 sounds positive, mine was about the same as @Polly421 . @RogelM have you heard anything more?

Polly421 · 27/06/2022 21:44

@chase12 thats great you finally got a decision.

RogelM · 27/06/2022 21:49

@chase12 nothing new unfortunately 😭

chase12 · 28/06/2022 10:04

@RogelM Hopefully not to much longer for you.@Polly421 Thank you.

Happy days! After four and a half months since I sent the application off we finally have a decision. I just got the letter this morning and our award is being backdated all the way to February. It feels like it’s been a life time waiting but so happy she finally got it.

Polly421 · 02/07/2022 10:12

@RogelM brilliant news!! Glad after all the long wait you’ve finally been received your child award.

chase12 · 02/07/2022 11:36

@RogelM fantastic news for you.

Rm1983 · 02/07/2022 11:45

That's great, you must be so relieved!

FYI here’s some thing our kids should get letter in year, £150 disability cost of living payment meant to be paid around September and if anyone else kids get HRC you should receive the child winter heating payment. We got it November last year for our daughter on HRC DLA. Qualifying week was a date in September so as-long as your kids are in receipt of it then, they should receive it automatically. With the cost rising these payment should help massively come the winter months.

Later in year not letter in the year🤣 autocorrect on my phone playing up this morning.

RogelM · 07/07/2022 11:04

@Polly421 oh that’s really good to know! Absolutely dreading the gas prices for the winter so this will come in handy!

chase12 · 07/07/2022 11:31

@Polly421 Most definitely will help, thank you for the update. We just applied for Take a break the close off date was I think 30th June and received a grant. I believe you can apply yearly and they will look at people that haven't applied before first. Also to note it is not limited to household income as there was another one that was, so this is a little extra help for the 👪.

Polly421 · 07/07/2022 11:46

@chase12 I applied to family fund for a haven voucher for a break, my daughter was accepted as eligible just waiting to find out value of voucher. I was told about take a break Scotland but because I applied to family fund I didn’t know I could apply for both. As family fund oversees take a break. The gentlemen at family fund said to me the other day we can in future apply for both as they completely separate and family fund help with individual items not just breaks. So have a look at family fund as-well for any item that may help your child too.

Polly421 · 07/07/2022 11:48

@RogelM any extra we can all get will be very much appreciated with the rising cost.

chase12 · 07/07/2022 12:07

@Polly421 Family Fund was the one that is income based, we are just above threshold so we do not get any other benefit than child benefit at present. However I will see this change I would expect once my contract finishes in September and I am going down the route of Home Education so I will be limited on hours I will be working as at present I work full-time with continuous night duties and I am struggling with zombie feelings so we need a much better balance.

Kellymcc121 · 07/07/2022 20:47

Hi Iv been catching up on this thread I applied for both my daughter and son on April 1st my sons case is awaiting to be signed of by the case managers manager has anyone herd of that?

Polly421 · 07/07/2022 21:45

From what I was told @Kellymcc121 they put all the application once verified in a queue for it’s to be given to case manager. When I applied for my son mid March it was then in queue around end of March and wasn’t picked up until May. Once the case manager picked it up it was fairly quick about 2 weeks max before I got his backdated payment. I have noticed social security scotland put out a message to say there’s some backlogs the now so I think that’s holding application up the now.

It’s with a case manager and she’s made a decision but apparently her manager needs to sign it off now?

RogelM · 07/07/2022 22:04

@Kellymcc121 I’m not sure entirely how it all works but check your bank you might get a backdated payment before your letter comes through.

Rm1983 · 07/07/2022 22:20

I had a call from case manager last week to ask a few questions, she said decision would be asap. Still nothing so went onto web chat today & they said the case manager is finalising there decision then it has to be authorised and I would receive a letter after this.

chase12 · 08/07/2022 10:15

@Kellymcc121 the case Manager makes a decision then it goes to their Manager to make sure they agree with the decision, this bit is very quick compared to the rest of the process so you should have your decision soon I would think.
