Anyone in Scotland making a new application? DLA/Child Disability Payment?

Hi everyone.

Not seeing much at all on support forums about the new Scottish child disability payment and wondered if anyone on here has recent experience of applying for the CDP in Scotland?

Afaik, all new applications from Scotland now need to go to Social Security instead of DWP and this has been in place since November 2021.

I made my child’s application at the start of the year about 7 weeks ago. Called today to ask for an update and was told it was with a case manager and I’ll be notified by letter once a decision has been made.

Apparently this new system is supposed to be faster and fairer than DLA? All current recipients of DLA living in Scotland should be getting moved over to CDP over the next year according to their website.

Anyway, if anyone has recently applied, I’m wondering how long it took all in for a decision to be reached?

Thanks.

@AnxiteacupStorm I got an email yesterday to do survey and I said it’s good you can do forms online but would be helpful if we received updates on applications progress. 22 weeks that’s a hell of a lot, we’re just over 6 really hoping we’re not aslong as that.

Polly421 · 28/04/2022 10:25

Did you send evidence in with your application? We just sent support letter from paediatric nurse and his physio plan. The nurse wrote I thought a great letter detailing his difficulties, aids he’s been given and support he’s receiving from physio occupational therapy etc and she wrote any more information to help with his application to contact her. She stated he does need alot more care than a child his own age as he’s only 19months. I’ve heard it can be harder to get it when their younger like my son. His physio and occupational therapist seen letter as they work with nurse and said they didn’t need to do individual ones since she done a great one detailing everything so I hope it’s enough.

@Polly421 yeah we sent all of his paeds letters and wrote down all the different people he’s seeing. Updated them on a&e trips and bits as we waited too since he’s had two surgeries since the form went in. They’d lost the initial evidence, they didn’t tell us that until the beginning of the month though. Some of its been maddening like speaking to someone one day and everything’s there it’s fine and you get a letter dated that day they wanted something else. I do think they could be more detailed on what’s happening too like steps or something involved so you know if it’s on step 1 or step 10 out of 12. Fingers crossed yours isn’t anywhere near as long away, I do think they messed up somewhere with ours though wasn’t picked up till after new year and not with a case manager till March

Polly421 · 28/04/2022 10:57

@AnxiteacupStorm I do think with everything you’ve said I would be surprised if he’s not awarded something. And good thing you’ll be finding out pretty soon. I won’t contact them until we hit 8 weeks and see if his case is with decision marker.

roughtyping · 28/04/2022 10:58

@AnxiteacupStorm ooh everything crossed your letter turns up quickly!

@Polly421 no news, not going to chase it as moving this weekend and too much else to think about!

Polly421 · 28/04/2022 15:41

@roughtyping good luck with your house move, it can be such a stressful time.

roughtyping · 29/04/2022 07:42

Thanks @Polly421. I've just had an odd amount of money (ie. Not round) appear in my account this morning so I'm wondering if it's back payment. Think because it's early the sender hasn't appeared yet, it's just numbers. Everything crossed!

Polly421 · 29/04/2022 11:28

@roughtyping fingers crossed that your child’s award sorted.

roughtyping · 29/04/2022 12:03

@Polly421 I checked on the web chat and it is backdated payment, they couldn't tell me rates etc but so glad!

Polly421 · 29/04/2022 15:46

@roughtyping that’s brilliant, so happy for you. I’m impatiently going to wait until we hit 8 weeks before I go on the web chat to see if there is any news on my sons claim. So a week on Wednesday🤣

AnxiteacupStorm · 29/04/2022 16:00

@Polly421 put the flags out ours is in too 😂! If you divide whatever amount you got by 8 or however many weeks you’ve waited you’ll get a rough idea of rates. So glad it’s not been another drama.

Polly421 · 29/04/2022 16:23

@AnxiteacupStorm amazing! You must be so relieved that’s finally sorted. Hopefully just a few more weeks for us to get good news.

roughtyping · 29/04/2022 17:45

@AnxiteacupStorm great news! I can't remember how many weeks it's been - I took a note of when I submitted it but forgot that it's backdated to when you submitted the first part of your application, which I did a few weeks before final submission - haven't helped myself!

Polly421 · 04/05/2022 11:42

I got impatient and contacted webchat for an update and guy stated it went to case manager yesterday afternoon just after one so he was quite specific so hopefully not too much longer for us now.

AnxiteacupStorm · 04/05/2022 13:27

@Polly421 fingers crossed that was one of the later steps after that it’s the processing side as far as I know.

@roughtyping have you had the letter through yet we haven’t but out posts snail powered at the best of times 😂

roughtyping · 05/05/2022 09:07

@Polly421 hope it's not too much longer!

@AnxiteacupStorm no letter yet, we've just moved house too which is helpful 🙄 will see what turns up!

Polly421 · 05/05/2022 12:08

i just received a call from the case manager. I notified them a couple of weeks back about my son being given a different aid and being referred to neurology as part of his care plan going forward over next 6 months. So asked if I could upload anything to support this ASAP. Thankfully I just got letter yesterday from Paediatric doctor about the plan going forward and his standing frame so uploaded it there. He stated I’ll get a decision letter soon and gave me Arrans child reference number use to upload documents so I’m hoping this is all positive signs.

RogelM · 06/05/2022 16:20

Following this thread! In a similar boat I completed the application middle of March, it’ll be 8 weeks next week from when it was completed. I spoke on the web chat today and they said it was with a case manager so hoping to hear back soon. They couldn’t tell me which stage it was at but I did let them know my daughter is to receive an official diagnosis by the end of the month and they said they would only update the records if I hadn’t heard from them by the official diagnosis date.

Polly421 · 06/05/2022 20:15

@RogelM It will be 8 weeks for me next week too. I messaged web chat today to check the stuff I sent yesterday was received and they said it was case manager left note to say he’s picked it up and working through our case. Finger crossed we both hear back soon.

chase12 · 09/05/2022 12:13

Hiya, I had seen your question about applying for Child disability under the Scottish system and you are right as it's new, its hard to find others views other than what is on there website. How did you find the experience in the end as I am finding that there seems to be back logs although they are not admitting this completely and you are not able to flag it up the chain as it's still awaiting to be assessed and we are on week 8 and again they are not clear on how long this part takes but I would think it wouldn't be a quick process. Any experiences you had with them what be good to hear.

Polly421 · 09/05/2022 13:44

@chase12 Im still waiting 8 weeks this week but did speak to case manager last week so I’m hoping a decision will be made this week. I’m trying to hold off until the end of the week to ask webchat if he’s made a decision. The last thing they told me was he’s left note to say he has information he asked for and working on application now. A few weeks back an advisor over the phone stated they are getting far more requests now so highly likely decisions will be made after the 8 week now.

chase12 · 09/05/2022 14:22

@Polly421 , I will keep my fingers cross for you. I have not received any calls so far but then it is still waiting to be picked up and reviewed so I think I will add an extra month on. I find the system strange that their isn't away to raise a concern once it reaches so many weeks sitting awaiting to be assigned to Case Manager/Advisor that we can't ask for it to be processed as I would imagine depending on the child's needs it could be a lengthy decision to ensure they are basing their decision on as they will need to make sure its fair otherwise they will have more paperwork if the Carer is not in agreement with the outcome. Can you update if you hear anymore?

Polly421 · 09/05/2022 14:54

@chase12 Yeah I was told it’s taking 4-5 week in a queue for it to be assigned to case manager. A girl I spoke with 2 weeks ago told me that and although our claim was submitted on 17th of March it didn’t get entered into queue until 30th once they checked the application. It was only last week case manager picked it up. So was about 5 weeks before it was picked up. As soon as I hear anything else I’ll let you know.

RogelM · 10/05/2022 14:21

I’m 8 weeks tomorrow and still not heard anything! I keep checking my bank just in case as I’ve seen some people got the money through before the letter. Does anyone know how long the application can be with a case manager for? I know it’s been there since at least last week.

Polly421 · 10/05/2022 14:33

@RogelM im at the same stage as you, our claim went to case manager last week. I was just told once he works through application I’ll get a letter sent. I’m waiting to Friday before I asked webchat if a decision has been made.
